History

Established in 1949.

Marty’s formal wear was founded in 1949 as a men’s clothier by our dad Martin Nissenblatt. He and his young wife Edie became well known in the area as purveyors of high style. In the 70’s mom joined the team and turned the men’s store into the first Men’s Formal Wear specialty boutique in Westchester county. Today Jon and Mindy, Marty and Edie’s kids run the store. They pride themselves on personalizing what has become in many spheres a cookie cutter industry.

There are so many stories that could be told about operating a family business. For instance, as I write this, a man who had rented tuxedos for his 3,4 and 5 year old boys in 1992 came in to pickup his own wedding outfit. Mindy remembered his name from decades back and remembered that we had a picture of his sons dressed in tuxedos. He was so happy to have this picture. The youngest child had passed away, and he was happy that we had a memory to share.

Our large inventory spans the size spectrum which lets us fit tiny boys and extra large gentlemen with precision. For generations, Marty’s Formal Wear in Cortlandt Manor, New York has provided tuxedos and formal wear. Started in 1949 by our father, Marty, we have become a local landmark. I have been dressing grooms and their attendants since 1988. Jon joined me in 2001. We understand that when you are planning your special event you must count on many strangers to make the day just right.
