I am shocked by the rave reviews here. My experience has been the total opposite with both customer service and food taste. As the only «Jamaican» restaurant in the area, I have been there a few times hoping for a miracle and received the same experience. The food has no flavor and there’s nothing authentic about it. Not to mention the owner/​chef has no customer service skills. You cannot give any suggestion or negative feedback about the food or service. He gets really nasty and defensive. I will never go back there. Worst restaurant ever!

Amazing! This is the first time I give a Resturant 5 stars but this place deserves it… The reason for that is because the food was so good I felt like I was on vacation. The food was delicious and the owner was a sweetheart and so helpful… It was really a great experience had some delicious food!

The owners are great!!! Dawn and the chef are friendly and welcoming. My favorite order is the oxtails… But I eat some for dinner and some for lunch the next day… expensive but worth it. My husband gets the jerk chicken and likes. I recently started getting the patties and love it… They are the closest thing to getting what I’m use to in the Bronx. Wish they had plain roti skin for the curries but other than that… I keep going back!

Yep, just as delicious as all the reviews say. Came here at 2pm on a Tuesday and it was very quiet. Service was fantastic, very mom-​and-​pop. They were helpful bc I have dietary restrictions and they were very accommodating. I had the jerk chicken, cabbage, and plantains… Incredible. All of it.

Great Caribbean food here. I especially like the oxtail and the goat with curry. The rice and beans and pickled vegetables that come as sides are also delicious. Also check out the fruit sodas that are made by the restaurant, they are unique and refreshing. It’s a family restaurant with a great atmosphere and friendly owners. Support your local businesses, this is one of the best!

Fantastic food! We found The Hummingbird on the way to NYC. At first, we weren’t sure if we had the right place by the looks of the building. We had shrimp stir fry, ox tail and jerk chicken. All the meals were great. The lady that was taking orders and serving was very nice. They seem to handle mainly take out orders so there were open tables. We would definitely visit again.

Second time here — love it. It’s about great Jamaican and low prices — it’s not about ambiance. It’s more like a deli with a tv blaring in your ear. But it’s worth it for the food. Try it out.

This is a rare find having Caribbean food in Northern Westchester. It is easy to find below par food. This restaurant strives for perfection. Oxtail was soft, tender, and not stringy. They are people pleasers. A real island hospitality feel is when visiting The Hummingbird.

So authentic and SO delicious! I simply can’t find something on the menu that I don’t like (not that I’d want to)! Service is great and courteous. Food is always fresh and portions are quite generous for a very good price. The mac and cheese is to die for and the curried goat is amazing! They even bottle their own juice and it’s delicious!

We went here with friends after a hike on Bear Mountain and it hit the spot! Our crew had jerk chicken and oxtail entrees, all flavorful and generous portions. Not 5 stars because seems like it may be reheated and the seating area could use sprucing up

Finally a great Jamaican place in our area! The oxtail is so good, and they don’t skimp on portion size. I have all I can do to eat the entire portion along with the rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains that accompany it. My wife loves the escovietch (sp?) fish and the beef patties. Not only is food delicious, but the owners are so nice. If you like Jamaican food and you’re in the area, support this local business run by really friendly people.

I had been reading the reviews and i finally got around to ordering from Hummingbird last night. We got the jerk chicken meals complete with rice and beans, cabbage and fried plantains and it ALL was delicious. Affordable too. And the sweetest woman you’ll ever meet taking care of your order. Support this new wonderful establishment.

I must say i loved it here. They have REAl Jamaican food and it taste amazing. Its fresh and the prices are amazing. It looks like its a family owned business and they are so nice .
Even though I live far from Cortland Manor I would deff come back here again .
The portion of the plates are a good size as well .
The curry goat is amazing as well as the ox tails and there dumplings are so good.
If you haven’t come here you should deff make a trip and try there yummy food.

Love the flakey beef patties here. Even through transit, it maintained its warmth, and the beef was seasoned nicely. It had a hint of heat to it, so it’s pretty tasty.
The rice & peas and the steamed cabbage are your typical sides for the entrees. The large is pretty decent sized. I think a small is more than enough for one person.
The place looks like it should be featured on triple D, but i love how its right off the highway.
Need to come back and try that Jerk chicken again. It does come with a cup of sauce where you can get mild, hot and extra hot. Hot is good enough with the heat. I don’t think i can handle the extra hot anymore…

Very unassuming and low key from the front but delicious, home-​cooked, authentic Caribbean food served with warmth.
My husband and I brought the three kids and everybody loved it.
Shrimp curry, jerk chicken, rice and peas and fresh juices… tasty and healthy-​so glad we tried it.

Right off of the Bear Mtn State Pkwy, you can spot this mom’s & pop’s establishment. First thing I also saw on Unilocal’s Nearby Restaurants. You order the food in the front and take it to the dining area. The lady taking the orders claimed the food is made fresh.
Oxtail was tender, had too much fat pieces and the flavor wasn’t all there since its gravy was watered down. The side of cabbage tasted fishy! The Mac & Cheese was lacking cheese and was quite dry. The fried plantains had a variety of ripened and close to ripened slices, nothing special.
It seems to have great reviews on Unilocal but I’m guessing it’s from being the only Caribbean restaurant in town.

This is a welcome addition to the food scene in our Town and while it is not a «destination» restaurant the food is fresh, declicious and the family run operation is as authentic as it gets.
They serve soups (including goat head), and yummy patties/​pies (beef, chicken, spinach) which are light, spicy and simply yummy.
We have enjoyed the rotie (shrimp and chicken) as well as lunch and dinner platters (jerk chicken and curry shrimp, chicken or goat) which come with rice & beans, plantains and cabbage for a sweet low price.
There is room to sit, and the place is neat and clean. Drinks are available from a couple of coolers, and include ginger soda.
There are specials as well and you just have to swing by and check it out!
