I was visiting Corvallis from out of town, and I lost a contact lens in the shower. Had no backup/​spares, strangely, and I’d forgotten my glasses on this trip (of course!). I went to Valley Eye Care, and they were able to call my regular eye doctor back home and get my prescription in order to supply me (free!) with a pair of sample lenses. Life savers!
I’ve now moved to Corvallis, and they have earned a customer for as long as I live here with their friendly and prompt service. Thanks, Valley Eye Care!

I have been getting my exams here for a few years now. Sad to see the staff has changed, but some of their best staff is still there. Their opticians are very professional and really helpful. This does not feel like a cheap optical shop where they try to up sell you on everything. I did not feel pressured into something I didn’t want. Dr Young is very efficient and accurate with my prescriptions. The atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. I will continue to go here.

This review is for the OPTICIAN part of the business, not the doctors. The doctors are great, and they have very good equipment. The doctors are professional and helpful.
If you need vision correction, though, you really should go somewhere else to get your glasses.
The opticians can be friendly enough, but they can also be extremely condescending and absolutely try to up-​sell their product. If you know what kind of lenses you want, INSIST on ordering them, and DO NOT be influenced by the staff trying to tell you that the lenses you want are no good. After almost two decades of being their customer, I let down my guard and twice let the opticians push me towards lens options I wasn’t too keen on. I figured they tried to sell me on them every damn time I went in, so I thought I’d try them. After the second time, I got back in touch because these lenses really just weren’t going to work. I will say in their defense that after much back-​and-​forth they offered a solution that was going to work for me. However, when I went to pick up my new lenses, they tried to renege on the offer they had made. I insisted that they treat me like they had promised, and eventually they did agree, but not without a difficult conversation. I’m sure other patients could hear the conversation, and I kind of suspect this is the only reason they finally provided what they promised. Had the office been empty, I’m sure they would have made my life more difficult.
It’s sad to say, but since I’d like to have one full-​service optometrist and optician, I will probably be looking for a new eye doctor. This is really sad because I actually really do like all of the various eye doctors I have worked with over the past two decades.

Find another eye doc! They cancelled my eye exam 2 weeks in a row. The first time was an hour before the appointment, and the second was a day before. I’m in a frustrating position as time is a factor.

I went here back in December to choose a pair of frames. I had my prescription already and I knew they had a wide array of options. I went and once I chose a pair of frames that I liked, I had to fill out a form.
This form asked for my social security number which I found to be pretty odd. Why in the world would they need it? I asked and they said that they just needed to last 4 digits. Whatever, I really wanted those glasses, so I gave them the last four digits.
I am helped out by a sales person and she says that without insurance the glasses would cost $ 500+. Yikes! But they said that my insurance should over about $ 200 of that. They would check with my insurance and get back to me if there are any issues.
I didn’t hear from them and I went out of town for the holidays. When I returned, I figured I should call and check to see if my glasses were ready.
I call and the lady I speak to says that they do not have a glasses order, just frames. I ask why, and apparently my insurance does not cover vision. Ok, well why didn’t anyone call me? They claimed that someone had called and left me a message. Finally they have the sales girl I had worked with call me back.
I speak to her and she says she called and left me a message, and since I never called back, they sold the frames to someone else. When I tell her that I received no such message, she says «Oh well that’s weird because this is the only number we have on file for you.» I tell her she must have misdialed. She does not apologize ONCE. What happened to the customer is always right?
Ultimately I ended up taking my business elsewhere as I had no interest in doing business with Valley Eye Care after how I was treated. The glasses I ended up getting were $ 200 less than the ones offered here, even without insurance. The other place also did not ask for my social security number.
I will never go back here and recommend that you do not go either. Terrible customer service, unapologetic when an issue came up, and overpriced glasses.

Uhhhhh yeah. Let me just start off by saying the staff here are some of the rudest people I’ve ever met in my entire life. I really don’t know what else to say. Talking down to patients, check. Talking about patients behind doors when they think patients can’t hear them, check. Trying to persuade you to by the most expensive options, check. Quoting false times for glasses/​contacts coming in, check.
Some of the staff were ok and I don’t mean to blast them. But I will NEVER ever go here again. Each time I was in there I heard unhappy customers or saw staff members rolling their eyes and just being plain snooty. Not how you want to treat new patients.
At the end of the day I was there to order new contacts, was told when they would arrive, and when the contacts were mysteriously «not ordered yet» I was told «well can’t you just wear your glasses?»
Really? If I was just going to wear my glasses I wouldn’t have been there for contacts!
When I eventually went to pick them up the patient in front of me was having the same exact argument with the staff. Save your time and go some place else.

Great service. The doctors are courteous, knowledgeable, friendly and personable. I’ve been seen by both Dr. Young and Dr. Hale and they are excellent. I walked in with a minor eye problem and the staff were helpful to get me in to see a doctor that afternoon. I get excellent service each time I visit and would recommend eye care at Valley Eye Care.

Frame selection isn’t as large as other offices but all the staff were incredibly friendly and polite and helpful and the exam was rather pleasant. Dr. Young has excellent bedside manner. Would recommend.

Dr. Hale and his staff were excellent. My exam was extremely thorough. The office staff were all extremely nice. I would recommend Valley Eye Center to anyone looking for a new eye doctor. Thank you Dr. Hale for taking the time to explain my abnormal eye exam.

The two times I went here, one of the male salesmen kept trying to get me to get «special lenses» that cost around $ 500. I asked for quotes without the upgrades, and he gave me values that were lower than the actual billing price. He is pretty forceful in trying to get you to spend too much money. Not coming back for sure.

I was trying to get in to be seen last minute before I lose my current insurance. They were quick in getting me onto the cancellation list, and managed to get an appointment for me within 3 business days. The appointment was on time. The staff was all very friendly and they picked out a great pair of frames for me. I had my glasses made 2 hours after my appointment.

I went to get a pair of glasses because my current pair is hurting my ears and I’d like to try a different style. They were very unhelpful. After a bit of wait, a man came out and bellowed my name, then proceeded to be very unhelpful with the frames. I asked what shape a certain lens was the response was «I don’t know.» Uhm… isn’t that your job? I stated a few times I didn’t want a certain type and he kept suggesting them. I’d picked out simple ones to try on and he kept handing me huge elaborate colorful ones.
He then tried to get me to pay close to 500 dollars for a special type of lens! He kept trying to upsell me and since he was such a poor salesman to begin with, it was awkward. I left without getting anything and he seemed bothered. I maybe took up twenty minutes. They also didn’t have any close up mirrors and he never had me sit down or anything, just push em on your face and get out.
They did have a large amount of glasses, but no budget options and no discount for paying upfront or in cash.
Not impressed overall.

I visited today and was examined by Dr. Hale. I found the offices clean and the staff quick, efficient, and thorough. I arrived at the time agreed upon and was seen with no waiting. After a optical scan I was informed I would need a closer look as I had a freckle apparent in my left eye. I was dilated, examined manually, then via a laser scanning system. While I was given a clean bill of health I was referred to another doctor for an ultrasound «just in case». In addition I was not charged for the extra examination as it was insisted upon by the good doctor for his own clarification. I find that a nice touch in an age where providers often are only interested in getting you in and out as fast as possible for the benefit of seeing more patients and fattening the wallet. Three cheers!

Dr. Hale is great! He takes care of both of my boys. He is great with kids and takes the time to explain to us parents what the issues are and his recommendations. The staff is also very kind and helpful!

Dr Hale, the Optician and Frames people were very good. I had special requests, they knew what to do, took the time to really understand what I wanted and get the solution for me. I recommend this team.

I am head over heels for this doctor and their staff. They did all of the detailed eye exams with no discomfort whatsoever and even walked me through them so I knew exactly what to expect. I remember thinking that I was doing so much with the assistant that the doctor would have nothing left to test or to tell me, that it would be one of those scenarios where the doctor bops in and says hi and leaves after 5 minutes. But it was NOTHING like that. I think I spent more time with the doctor than the assistant! He talked to me about computer usage and screen time and how to keep my eyes more lubricated and healthier. He answered all of my questions about Lasik and drops and daily contacts vs. weekly ones, and I never felt like he was in a rush to see someone else. There’s just no reason to go to anyone else; I’m hooked.

I’ve been a customer for about 20 years and have always had a great experience at Valley Eye Care! My last appointment was particularly speedy — got in and out with little waiting! I also like that they have the latest equipment!

The ladies at the front desk were great but when one of their optician’s got to us, this is where we left pretty angry,
A guy in his 40’s helped out. When he got to use, he asked if we havr a prescription. If he had checked out the file at the front desk, he would have figured that out. When I asked for poly lenses, we were told in a rude manner that they no longer go with poly. That’s fine, but the way he delivered his message could have been better and less stuck up. When I asked for a quote. He provided a blown up price. When i asked further if they provide discounts for folks without insurance, he flat out said no. When we got to the car we were wondering why he was so unhelpful. When I looked at the clock, we realized it was 10 minutes til closing time.

I have been going to Valley Eye Care for several years, and have been unimpressed by my recent experiences with this office. First of all, I expect decent service when I am being charged almost $ 200 (and this is going with old-​school eye drop dilation) for a visit. All of the tests and other things I had done were the same as every other visit I have had since I was a kid, and as I recall, I was charged quite a bit less for previous visits. Also, many medical offices in town offer a discount for people paying out-​of-​pocket (vs. having vision insurance), which is not an option here.
Office staff were sluggish in returning my calls, and less than professional during my visit. Again, I expect that when I pay that much to see an eye doctor, I am treated with friendliness and respect. The waiting room had relatively loud radio music (think Robin Thicke’s «Blurred Lines») and some of the staff members looked like they were dressed to go to the gym, rather than working in a professional office. Overall, my experience with each staff member left me feeling like I was being rushed through so they could cram in another patient. At one point, while waiting for my eyes to dilate, I was shuffled into the waiting room and told to take my jacket in case they moved me to a different exam room for the next stage of my visit.
The only pros I can think of for going to this office are being able to get in for a visit quickly (which may be because of the poor service) and having weekend hours. I have had decent experiences with eye care visits throughout my life, and this is the first visit that left me feeling the need to deter others from visiting this office. Needless to say, I will be going elsewhere in the future.
