Stopped here for lunch mid-bike-ride on a weekday. If you live in the area and work during the week this ain’t the place to go for a quick bite. We wondered about the service from the moment we entered. Generally upon entering a restaurant sans maitre de or host, one is met by a sign instructing one regarding seating. No sign here! No sign of anyone to ask either! The restaurant wasn’t empty of customers by any means, after waiting several minutes to be instructed by waitstaff regarding seating, and seeing the individual who eventually became our waitress look at us and blithely duck back into the kitchen, rather than acknowledge us and offer a quick«Just seat yourself» or «I’ll be with you in just a moment» so… after a few more minutes I asked a patron whether it was seat oneself or be seated by waitstaff, and was advised to just seat yourself. And we did. And we waited some more. The lady went to use the facilities. And I waited some more. Our waitress did eventually stop by and drop off menus and disappeared again for another 10 minutes. The lady returned and asked if our drink order had been taken. It had not. Nor had water been served. So after some more waiting, I was on the cusp of getting up to go to a restaurant that actually waited on patrons when our waitress appeared and took our order. We dared not let her take a drink order and then await her return to take the entrée order! We both got broiled cod, salad bar and a pick of sides. There were no green side options, only white ones. Taters, mashed, hash browns maybe baked but I don’t recall and applesauce. She got mashed I got hash browns. It took a little while for our meals to appear, but we did have the salad bar to occupy our time. It wasn’t a lush spread. Iceburg lettuce cut in bite size pieces and browning at the edges. No other greens choice. Radish slices, cukes, shredded cheese, banana pepper slices, beets that looked as though they had seen better days, crumbled boiled eggs, slaw, mac salad, dressings and a few other things and four un-labled dressing choices. It was OK, but far from something to rave over. Our entrees arrived and the cod was a generous portion, but not appetizingly presented, Just broiled. Not enhanced in appearance with browning, a bit of paprika, a parsley sprig or whatever. But it wasn’t overcooked… the sworn enemy of fish! They did offer a couple of lemon wedges and a small portion cup of drawn butter with the entrée which was all it needed to make it quite acceptable. The lady’s mashed must have been ok cause they disappeared. My hash browns weren’t. They were hash whites. And they were cold. The bill never made it to the table, even though we both did a tag team visit to the bathroom making it fairly obvious along with our emptied plates one of which the waitress had removed already, that we were ready to leave. Our waitress, oblivious to anything having to do with appropriate timing of a dining experience, was standing at the cash register ringing out someone else, who must have given her their payment while awaiting her at the table, so I just walked up and offered to pay the bill. She didn’t know whether or not she had given us one, which I found surprising and disheartening. I told her she had it and she found it tallied the total and I paid. Awaiting her delivery of a bill and then pick up of payment and then return of change/slip was definitely not something I had the time to experience! If you’re retired, have blue hair, as did the vast majority of clients here, or time to kill this place is fine. If you have plans to something else besides dine that day, you might look elsewhere.
