Specialties

31 Bits specializes in beautiful jewelry and bags handmade from recycled paper by women in Uganda. Our mission is to use fashion and design to empower people to rise above poverty.

History

Established in 2008.

One of our founders, Kallie, traveled to Uganda in the summer of 2007 where she got a first-hand look at life in Northern Uganda. She met women making paper beads who had no market or plan to sell them. When she brought a box of jewelry back to the U.S. and there was an instant demand for more from friends and family. She spent the next year finishing her degree while dreaming up the concept of a development organization. She brought a few friends on board and her ideas quickly evolved into 31 Bits. The girls traveled back to Uganda in 2008 and selected six women to being buying jewelry from on a monthly basis. Since then, we have grown to over 200 women, each with a unique story of suffering that has been overcome with joy and liberation. Our program equips women by providing a reliable income, literacy education, financial and vocational training, holistic care, and strong support systems, empowering them to further their careers and rise completely above poverty.
