Specialties
Barley Forge Brewing Co. brews Belgian, West Coast and German-style beers — a blend of traditional, recognized styles and creative twists that draw from the melting pot of cuisines and cultures in Southern California. We’re honored to be Costa Mesa’s first-ever production brewery, and we intend to do our best to make the City proud. And not only are we a great beer destination, but we serve great food too, prepared fresh daily in our own kitchen. We’re located in the mixed-use SoBECA (South Bristol Entertainment and Cultural Arts) district, a baseball’s throw (by a decent arm) from the popular cutting-edge retail and dining venues The CAMP and The LAB, and just a short distance away from South Coast Plaza. Climate-perfect Costa Mesa is also adjacent to some of Southern California’s best beaches, making Barley Forge Brewing Co. an attractive destination for craft beer fans throughout Southern California. The brewery’s 10,000 square feet of combined tasting room, small kitchen, bottling, aging, and production-brewing facilities are housed in a midcentury industrial environment that we’ve put a lot of thought (and sweat) into — and that we hope you’ll enjoy. Come out and pay us a visit!

Meet the Business Owner
Greg N.
Business Owner
President and Co-Founder, Greg Nylen
After graduating from UCLA Film School with a BA in Motion Picture and Television Production and a year working as a video editor, Nylen decided that he would pursue a career as a lawyer instead of a filmmaker. Greg then spent the next twenty-four years practicing law in Santa Monica and West Los Angeles as an entertainment, intellectual property and class action defense litigator, with most of that time as a shareholder at the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP. However, he also spent that same twenty-four years homebrewing beer and developing a deep passion for the craft. In the early 2000s, he realized that he wanted to pursue his dream of opening a production brewery and, with the enthusiastic support of his wife, Vice President and Co-Founder Mary Ann Frericks, began to hone beer recipes on the homebrewing competition circuit (often brewing with Co-Founder Dave Chapman). Thus began the path leading to Barley Forge Brewing Co.
