Amazing selection of wood and MDF mouldings. Knowledgable service and very competitive prices compared to Home Depot.

Don’t buy anything in the back(lumber or building materials) unless you’re a contractor or really know your stuff. Went here to buy some wood and they have lousy employees who are super rude and made it seem like I was ruining their«milking it» time because they weren’t busy. There was one friendly kid but I forgot his name and the ladies in the front store were super nice which is why they get 1 star instead of the-2 stars I wanted to give them. As a DIY’er I’d rather spend a little more money and go to Lowes. Definitely won’t be coming back here.

The guys in the back are very rude and are not helpful. I am very disappointed in the way they speak to customers. Ganahl really needs to hold a class on customer service for there employees. We have so many options as consumers. In the future I will not shop at Ganahl.

The customer service at this place is horrible. I’ve been here twice, thinking the first bad experience might have been a fluke. Nope. Second time was just as bad. They can’t guarantee accuracy on their wood cuts and if you ask for something they don’t carry, they laugh at you for asking. Stop acting like you’re Newport Beach. You’re Costa Mesa. Won’t be back.

5-star customer service and a huge selection of everything you need for big or small business, and for home projects. Today was my first visit as a local business owner and I could not have been more impressed with the great attitude of all customer service representatives. Wow!

The store in Costa Mesa seems like an old Mom-&-Pop store with a real lumber yard outside. Inside, it’s pretty easy to navigate; like Ace Hardware, but what you don’t see is value in contractor related items like«hard”-ware and tools: this store must have a deal with Dewalt, because they always have the lowest prices on their wonderful power tools. If you want lumber, you really have to go out back and look yourself because the guys are always busy with large contractor orders. Yes, they’re understaffed at times, but the inventory is worth the visit: better quality than Home Depot & not quite as good as Santa Ana Lumber. I like the store mostly for wood and related items, and tools. Yes, I AM a Contractor.

I don’t know much about lumber, so after walking around the lumber area for good 10 minutes with no help offered, I decided to go to the desk inside the store. Will the guy at the desk knew I was looking for help because you can’t help but notice someone walking around lost in the lumber area. When he saw me coming through the door, he immediately turned and walked away as fast as possible. So, when I finally asked someone else for help, he did call for the lumber help. Another guy came and I told him I didn’t know much about lumber but what I needed. He directed me to go look outside on my own. So after wondering around outside, I told my wife let’s leave. On the way out the guy saw me coming towards the front of the store he immediately did the same thing and turned and walked as fast as he could to get away. The store itself was very nice looking but the customer service was bad! People just wanting a pay check without helping anyone.

The lumber department is a hot mess. I’ve visited this place twice and had to hustle to get what I wanted. There is only one person helping people back there, and the rest who knows what. It’s a pain to get assistance and get what you need to get out in a decent time. My last experience the guy couldn’t even do the measurements and/or the math to calculate how much board feet I was requesting. So expect a wait and bring your own tape measure.

I would not use this store for accurate cuts on plywood. I called and the guy said they can only guarantee cuts to 1/8″ accuracy. Sounds like they are not confident in their work

Although the people are very nice, the door and window department is utterly inept. I recently ordered specialty doors and windows from Ganahl and was repeatedly disappointed in the process. The ordering took an exceedingly long time, delivery was not as promised(even though they took 100% payment) and the delivered product was not as specified. I think the biggest problem with these guys it that they don’t have adequate knowledge of the products they represent. Buyer beware: they will not take responsibility for their mistakes and they do not know the products they sell.

TIMTHESALESMANAGERIS A JERK. Today for no business reason he refused to have his employee in the lumber department cut a piece of molding at a 45 degree angle for me when I was standing there ready and willing to pay for it. It was 3:05 pm and Tim said«I won’t do it» even though his employee Brandon was happy to do the work — — which would have taken 5 F-ING MINUTES. Oh no, he wanted me to hire my electrician to return for another trip at my expense tomorrow so that I could pay another $ 125/hour for his time. REALLY? I drive past the Ganahl off the 73 every day. I finally had the opportunity to shop there today because i am repairing the fence in my backyard. Although, the location is clearly visible from the freeway its actually harder to find than you would think. I pulled into a busy parking lot but the was plenty of parking spaces. The store is clean and well organized. I quickly found my way to the lumber counter. The man who took my order was efficient but not very friendly nor helpful. When i asked if they could cut my lumbar he responded with«yes, but they are not perfect out there so cuts might not be exact». Uh okay i guess? I proceed outside not sure exactly where to go because the guy inside the store didnt direct me. I locate a shed labeled«will call» and showed a young guy my paperwork. He kinda points me around the corner and says, «wait at shed A and someone will help you. Luckily shed A was clearly marked and i made my way over. After waiting there for ten minutes the«new guy» asked if i have been helped. To make a long story short, he was a nice hardworking kid but didnt know much and took forever to pull 15 pieces of lumbar 14 of the same and one different. I needed 8 footers but they only had 14 footers so we had to wait for permission to cut down the 14’s. Once they actually started cutting it only took about 10 minutes time. To top it off the guy cutting the lumbar made me feel like i needed to apologize to him for making him do the cuts. Which by the way i was charged $.50 a cut for. Side note, i tipped $ 10 up front before any cuts were made, guess it wasnt enough. I finally got out of there 70 minutes after paying! Thats right it took an hour and ten minutes to have 15 pieces of lumbar pulled and cut! On my way out of the lumbar yard i parked and went in to talk to the lumbar yard manager who was a nice enough guy. I asked him if this was a normal for it to take over an hour for an order like this? He said no, apologized and recommended i see him next time. Unfortunately, there will be no next time for me. My experience was lousy from start to finish. I will NEVER return to this Ganahl location nor would i recommend it… unless you like needlessly standing around wasting your time, in which case this is the place for you!

As a Realtor, I like to help my clients get their properties ready for sale. I found the set of double doors my client wanted by TM Cobb at their Anaheim store, Lawrence gave us a few requested items he needed before he could order the doors. I called him the next day after gathering the info. and left a message, he returned my phone call two days later. Again, he asked me another question. I needed to ask our contractor the question and told Lawrence I would call him right back. I left him a message in May, four weeks later I am still waiting on a call back? At the Ganahl in Costa Mesa, I met Ian in the door department and him ordered the door within 10 minutes after confirming the door was available with T.M. Cobb. The doors look great and fit perfectly and all the hardware was correctly installed when delivered, Thank you Ian. Pack a lunch, their delivery truck was two hours and sixteen minutes later than their max delivery time, scheduled between 8 to 12. No one could call?

I walked into the store with a bag of fluorescent light bulbs I was hoping to exchange for the identically priced smaller size that were sponsored by SCE. Dolores instantly grumpily told me I absolutely could not exchange the items! The manager got involved and was equally unfriendly. Hhmmmm rethinking my $ 150K remodel resource…

The people that work at the front desk here are always either grumpy or inattentive. Last time I was here, I was trying to get someone’s attention to copy some keys for me, and one of the workers, instead of walking up to me and asking what I needed yelled across the store«I can’t hear you» The man who did my keys for me was really nice though. I like to shop at smaller businesses, but in this case, Home Depot wins.

I prefer going here over Home Depot or Lowes, especially if I have to get lumber. They have an excellent selection of mdf trim, baseboard, crown molding and the like. And the tool selection is top notch. You can also get decent styles of pre hung doors here too. The staff have always been helpful. Its a little more expensive for some things, but will surprise you in others.

We stopped in here to see if they had any more interesting woods for a project than Home Depot or Lowe’s… hell yeah they do. Ganahl is a small chain full of people who actually know the answer to your question. They have paints, tools, and an amazing selection of beautiful woods. I’m not sure I’ll go to the big box store again unless I have to.
