Growers Direct

My brother in law told me about this place since we were complaining about getting bad produce from Ralphs. We were in the area last week so we decided to stop in and check it out. The parking lot is tight but there are spaces. We walked in and the store is really small. I would recommend using a basket instead of a shopping cart because the aisles are narrow.
The selection of produce is great. The prices are cheaper than Ralphs or Albertsons. But what impressed me was the quality of the produce. We bought raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, plums, lettuce and green beans. All tasted significantly fresher and had more flavor than the chain grocery stores and it was about $ 5 less too!
We went back this past weekend as well. The lines for check out are long, but the lines move quickly. I would give this place 4.5 stars. I would deduct .5 stars from them for the tight space. It’s not bad since you are just shopping for produce so you are not there very long.

Awesome produce at a great price. Parking is good. Getting in and out of the parking lot can be a pain but it’s worth it. Inside of the shop is a tight squeeze. I recommend going during the week. Sometimes the weekend crowd can be a bit to much.

They delivered the anniversary flowers I ordered right on time at the restaurant I requested. Their flowers are very beautiful and made my gf gush. They were very easy to order with, asked which kinds of flowers I wanted in the bouquet, and added some of theirs that would complement those flowers. The arrangement is very eye catching such that I was very impressed because there are some florists who just throw together a bouquet with no attention to detail regarding color arrangement. I would highly recommend! Note that they have a minimum $ 45 for delivery orders (on top of their delivery fee).

We do a lot of juicing in our house, which can get expensive… unless we come to Growers Direct! I only wish they had a larger selection of organic options. Great prices and great selection of fruits, veggies, as well as some baked goods, juice, nuts and dairy. It’s very small and can get crowded at times, but we usually come during the day when it’s not too crazy. The staff is hit or miss, some very friendly and some barely say «hello». Overall, good place to come for produce and I’d recommend checking it out if you haven’t.

I really enjoy coming here to get my fruits and vegetables. Each time I come here they look fresh and much better than Ralph’s or any groceries and for an affordable price. The place is not huge but mostly organized and clean. I could not say the staff are friendly but they are prompt to assist you.
Overall, its my favorite place to forage.

I used to always come shop here when living in Costa Mesa. They have every kind of fruit and veggie you can imagine and are amazingly priced. I normally would come here during the week but they have everything that is season. They have and sell pumpkins in the fall and different kinds of squash and seasonal things in summer which is awesome. I can always count on getting in and out of their fast because they are quick getting you in, helping you if you need it, and getting you checked out so you can be on your way.

I have gone to this grocery store twice now and have always left the store happy. I bought a bunch of romaine lettuce, radishes, cucumbers, kale, some green beans, and a couple other things for about $ 10. All of the produce is fresh and cheap, not organic, but still well worth it. The service was hassle-​free and i was in and out of the store in like 5 minutes, which i really appreciate and is the main reason why i’m giving them 5 stars.

My favorite go to produce super market in Newport! The produce is always very fresh and super affordable… I bought a box of blueberries at trader joes for $ 4 and at growers it was 1.99 that is a huge difference!

Always fresh fruits and veggies and at an affordable price. We used to shop TJ’s, but since we found out about Growers Direct there was no going back.

love this place. Wish they had longer hours. I love the local stuff they carry too. Dairy and eggs a bit expensive, but can’t beat produce prices for quality. Awesome location, I go here for produce, the Butcher in same parking lot for meat and the
Trader Joes across street for dairy items and nuts.

Growers is the absolute best place to buy produce. They have the best looking fruit and vegetables — vibrant colors and from local growers. The value is absolutely incredible, can’t believe how affordable everything is. Wholesale atmosphere but clean and conveniently located for Costa Mesa/​Newport.

This is my favorite place in San Diego or La Mesa to buy produce. Great quality, great prices, and great small store atmosphere.

Growers Direct is a small market with fresh produce at reasonable prices. Think Trader Joes, but with a better produce selection. If I lived closer, I’d definitely come here to grab all my greens.

You can’t beat the quality AND prices of the produce at Growers Direct! They have a somewhat small selection of organic fruits and vegetables (maybe 5 – 10 different items, depending on when you go). They are constantly getting new shipments in, and have new items daily it seems. Along with produce, they carry a different variety of bottled beverages, chips, salsa, eggs, milk, cheeses, yogurts, juices, bread, sweet cakes, french rolls, kettle corn and odwalla bars/smoothies.along with a few other things I’m forgetting. At the registers they have a huge selection of bagged nuts, granola, chia seeds, chocolate covered almonds/​raisins, toffee peanuts, banana chips, etc etc etc…
The best time to come is on the weekdays, or later in the afternoon! It does get extremely busy sometimes (after people start getting off work) and especially on Sunday it’s PACKED around the time folks are getting out of church.
All of the cashiers are extremely nice, friendly, and helpful. I’m always learning something new about cooking tips with vegetables or how to tell if a certain fruit is ripe or not, etc. Everyone that works there definitely knows their stuff about produce! My favorite cashier, Hank, is always telling me fun trivia facts about fruits and vegetables, for instance I had no idea cashews grow out of a certain type of apple, or that «male» bell peppers have only three humps on the bottom and are better for cooking than the «female» ones with four humps!
He always takes the time to bag my produce with care. Amber, another cashier, is always cheerful and friendly, and makes me feel like this is truly my «neighborhood» grocery store.
The store is always very clean and tidy, especially for being on the smaller side. The guys that restock the produce do an excellent job!
The absolute best thing about this store are the prices and quality. I can buy a whole bagful of produce for the amount Ralph’s or Von’s charges for just a few items!
The only negative points are the small parking lot, and the aisles in the store could be a bit bigger!

Located in the hub of Costa Mesa/​Newport border — not a favorite with traffic and confusing lanes — I made it during lunch hour. Place is a small market and mainly produce only. No meats or seafood, etc. some bottled beverages and snacks but very small to offer too much variety.
Quality. The produce seemed to be very fresh! It is as if they were carefully selected and inspected to be worthy of being sold. The blueberries were also very plump and bigger than normal size sold in store. I saw one of the workers was selecting and packing the strawberries in a basket. I don’t normally buy strawberries because there is always that one bad one but I couldn’t help myself and sure enough… there was not one bad strawberry!
Price. When it comes to price, some were below market and some were comparable. For example, a pound of cherry cost $ 2.49 which was the same price at Walmart. however, a box of raspberry cost $ 1.99 and, a pound of yellow nectarines cost $ 1.29 which were below the market price. Excitedly, I found white nectarines being sold at $.99 per pound and at this time, I have not been able to find my favorite grocery stores to have sold any.
Taste. My experiences in buying fruits have always been a hit-​and-​miss in terms of taste. The yellow nectarines I had bought from walmart at $ 2.48/lbs turned out to be extremely sour that almost rendered inedible. Similarly, I quit the habit of buying strawberries for the same reason. So, as soon as I was back at work I tried some of the fruits I bought and I was not disappointed. The strawberries were delicious and the cherries were addicting.
My missing star is due to the location and not everything is lower than the mainstream market. But, all in all, I will be back! The ability to buy fresh produce in great quality and taste is just hard to miss for this fruit lover.

I love Grower Direct. I have been shopping here for fruits and veggies for over 15 years.
Produce: The fruits and vegetables are always fresh and great quality. The prices here are absolutely amazing. I can have a cart full of fresh fruits and vegetables and it is always around $ 25 or less. I love buying in bulk here for when I am juicing. It is amazing how much you can get for the cost.
Staff: The employees here are always friendly. It can get pretty busy/​crowded here on weekends/​after work but the affordability and the quality is worth the wait.

Love this place! It’s a hidden treasure in Costa Mesa — very cheap fresh fruits and veggies. I bought a pound for Brussel sprouts for $ 2. Great deals, decent customer service. Only negative is the carts never enough or they are dirty.
Highly recommended to juicers, meal preppers, and those who love quality foods!

More expensive organic than trader joes (across the street)…only had about 5 organic items in the whole store.

Very convenient little produce shop that’s really easy to navigate with friendly services.
In the past several years ‘juicing’ has developed a cult following in LA and OC. Some health food stores sell cold pressed juices $ 10/​16oz! The marketing is just so enticing, I could help but be an OC beezy and purchase. After awhile, it’s really bad for my bottom line. So, I decided to do what the other 49 states do: make my own juice/​smoothie from scratch. It seems like a daunting task really! A you have to go to the store, buy the fruits and veggies. Drive 3 blocks home and carry them back into the kitchen, wash them, cut them, connect the power cord on the blender, toss in the ingredients, then press a button! Gawdawg, soooo many steps!
Luckily, this store carries all the ingredients I need. They have very reasonably priced produce that is extremely fresh. Organic options for us health nuts. Easy to navigate aisles for people with short attention spans like me.
Now I know how to make my own smoothie! So proud!
