Great second stop for restaurant week
We did the 3 course to share option and it was great!
Start with cornbread and potato skins warms ya up
Move on to brisket, Tri-​tip, and pulled pork with garlic mash and Mac n cheese. The pulled pork was tasty and looked just as ready for bread as it was for a plate. The tri-​tip was incredibly tender and tasty. Brisket was tasty and fall apart sandwich ready too.
Dessert was cheesecake. Bit of a sprinkle hiccup but that was our fault.
Overall fantastic!

Dinner was delicious. I had the BBQ chicken and ribs. I think I need to return soon because that tri-​tip looked wonderful too. Yum.

Waste of time. Better to try somewhere else. Place needs an update and the food needs an overhaul! Everything is drenched in bbq sauce

Got the 22 oz prime rib to go. It was AWESOME. they give you so much food it’s ridiculous. I cut the 22 oz in half and took the other half to work the next day and it was still delicious. Only thing though was the corn bread was too dry. I like mine a little more moist. The corn bread was so dry it was falling apart.

Tonight we decided to hit this place for Happy Hour. So glad we did. We got a free onion block appetizer w check in, a grilled artichoke and basket of ribs. Everything was too notch delish. There bbq sauce is amazing. and ribs served to perfection. Why this place has lower rating I have no idea. Service was great also we sat at the bar. Come see for yourself. !

I’ve been coming here for years. last night 2÷6÷16 around 830pm was by far the worst service I have ever had. the girl our server «didn’t get her name» 1. had no knowledge about the menu. 2. It was not packed at all yet they took forever to bring our food. 3. Half the girls were texting/​taking selfies including our server. 4. Our server was no where to be found and so I asked another server if I could please have some bbq sauce and she looked at as if I was speaking Greek or something and rolled her eyes.5. My food was dry, lacked flavor, and it was cold! NEWPORT RIB COMPANY REALLY NEEDS TO TRAIN THEIR STAFF AND STEP UP THEIR GAME ON THE FOOD… its just not the same anymore… don’t think I’ll be coming back here again. instead I’ll be going to WOODRANCH in Irvine by far the best tasting BBQ IVE HAD… it really puts these guys to shame

Ok, found my place for ribs, they fall off the bone. Love them — definitely will come again. Service was good, food had good portions for the price.

Haven’t been here in about 4 years and somehow it isn’t quite what I remember. The place was packed which was seemingly a good sign. NOPE!
Offered complimentary cornbread immediately … And I love cornbread. Begin to eat it and realize the texture is that of pound cake. Which isn’t quite right. Hoping for something better with the actual meal. Mediocre pulled pork and brisket sliders. Blah BBQ sauce and a side of ranch. Who serves ranch with BBQ !!! The concept of the menu and the offerings is enticing, unfortunately they were unable to follow through with the whole performance. I love BBQ and live nearby but will not be going back.

I’ve been looking for a place with good beef ribs! I found it here the best Beef Ribs in Orange County! Big, great tasting, tender Beefy Ribs! It’s a nice clean place. Waitress are friendly.

I came here after winning the battle bell game as a senior in October of 2008 and came back as a coach exactly a year after and let me say these ribs, mashed potatoes, and cornbread were some of the best i have had. The sweet taste of victory might have had something to do with it as well but actually I am very critical of my BBQ and this was awesome. My parents had some platter with huge mozzarella sticks, potatoes wedges with cheese their plates looked good and tasted better. The staff is also very friendly, I cant believe I had not gone here after living 200 ft away for 17 years. They just recently sent us a gift card for $ 25 dollars and that was really cool. It’s in a unusual location but definitely something to check out in Costa Mesa

What a thieves !!! I went today for first time I ordered trip tip sandwich and a glass of water, the waitress brought my bill and was $ 15.10 I paid with gift card of $ 20 she came back with another bill for w sandwich and 2 diet coke i told her that i didn’t get the cokes and she said because you wants to use the gift card we need to charge for the $ 20 in order to pay with. The waitress said if you want you can talk to the manager .
Summary: they charged me $ 7 just to be able to use the gift card. Unbelievable!!!
I won’t come back never ever.

Good consistent BBQ with some great specials. Tuesday is half priced wine bottle night — paid 11 bucks for a bottle of vino to go with the BBQ. Looks like they hire a lot of students and younger people — I’m happy that they do and accept that they aren’t professional waiters. Service is always friendly but can be a little spotty — again it is like a friendly family place

The food was delivered cold, the drinks were empty after round 1 for the duration of meal, and best of all the waiter stuck his finger in my Mom’s mashed potatoes when she told him it was cold. Nobody at our table wanted any food he delivered after that. Pretty gross dude.

This restaurant has been around for years. I don’t know what’s up with mediocre reviews. My family loves this place. The portions are ginormous and their ribs are flavorful and tender– falls right off the bones. I’m not a huge rib person but I really like them here.
Service was great. Our server checked on us periodically and brought us napkins and such without having to ask.
I ordered the prime rib company– what a massive piece of meat for the 12 oz. I have enough leftovers to turn it into another full meal.
Décor is old school but very clean. Like the restaurants you remember your family taking you as a young child. Looks like their restrooms have been remodeled and again, very clean.
I’ve been coming here on and off when I’m in the area for the past 10 years. Still great.

Summary: bad service, below average food
We came on my bday for a late lunch. The server (can’t recall his name but he was really tall and looked younger) straight up sucked. We placed our orders and also checked in on Unilocal for the free onion brick and showed him.
1. He forgot our drinks. We waited more than 20 mins then I had to remind him
2. He forgot out onion brick and my gf had to remind him at the end of our meal cuz clearly he was not gonna bring it
3. He forgot my side salad but I finally gave up and was not gonna chase him down
So basically this guy forgot half of our meal. It wasn’t even busy at all so there was no excuses just straight up crap service.
The food sucked for the money you pay. The beef ribs I got had very little meat compared to other places. Also the sauce was too sweet. My gfs chicken breast was overcooked and dry and they tried to make up for it by slathering it in BBQ sauce.
I hate to say this but Lucile’s has way better food and WAY better service. Skip this place, it’s really not worth it.

We came back today for lunch. Our experience was totally different from the last time we visited. Again on a Sunday, but today our service was amazing. There were two young men who made sure we had everything we needed, and promptly.
We ordered off the lunch menu and got a large amount of food for not a lot of money. Everything we had was really good!
Can’t wait to go back!

My buddy and I came here craving good bbq. Their check in offer for a ¼ onion brick and distance from south coast plaza mall drew us in.
The cornbread was so dry I had to finish my drink and ask for a refill to recover! When our plate came, it was a gorgeous presentation, a feast for my eyes, it whet my appetite. As I reached for my ribs, it was difficult to pull apart, I had to use my knife! If I wanted to eat a disaster like this I would have cooked ribs from home and enjoyed eating my tears. Our Baby back ribs were too dry to spend such. large amount of money.
I’m sorry so many people have to suck up to their quality, it seems like this is all we’ve got down here!
On the bright side, I’ve had worst ribs in OC, so bad that I am going to write their review next. This place offers comfort, class and hard dry ribs. Maybe you’re into that? I’m not. I like my weather dry, not my ribs.
The topping on this was that both my friend and I checked in here yet they only took half off of the ½ brick onion they gave us. We had been cheated.

We got 4 orders of the Hog Pak to feed roughly 50 employees. Each order comes with 24 – 28 ribs, 12 pieces of chicken, 4 sausages, some brisket, 12 pieces of corn bread and 3 pints of any side orders. We got the garlic mash and grilled veggies (somehow this option was not on the menu).
The ribs were okay, I didn’t find them juicy or tender enough for my liking. The chicken was also a bit dry, it was hard to cut with the plastic fork and knife. I’m sure everything might taste a little better if you drench them in BBQ sauce but I didn’t want to do that. Even the corn bread was dry! They packed butter on the side but it didn’t help at all. It’s possible that our food got cooked a little longer than usual since they have to keep them warm for catering purpose but it’s a bit disappointing when most of the items ended up dry. Now that we got all the negatives out of the way… moving on to the sausage and brisket! They were both juicy and well seasoned, the best part of the pak and of course they give you so little of them!
Aside from the delicious sausage and brisket, they also provide you with good quality utensils unlike some of the other places. They have friendly staff and placing the order over the phone was simple and painless. Overall it wasn’t horrible but I’m not sure if I would cater from here again, especially with the bill being over $ 500.00

I’ve been so preoccupied as of late and didn’t find out about Dine OC week until the day before its last day. You can imagine my panic as I tried to make reservations at Ruth’s Chris (earliest availability was 3 days). What is a foodie to do?
I started season 1 of House of Cards this week and Freddy’s soul bbq food has got me craving! So when I stumbled upon Newport Rib Co. I thought wow — $ 40 for 2 people and 3 course meal?! Looking at the Unilocal reviews and seeing 3.5 reviews made me a little weary but I thought maybe there were just a bunch of haters. Well, sign me up to this club.
First off, their service was abysmal. Their environment felt really unattractive… like a cheap sports bar mixed with deep leather boots. It didn’t help we got seated in the very back, next to the kitchen entry where dirty dishes were being dragged by us every thirty seconds (busy night)!
So for $ 40 we ordered the following:
½ onion brick — plenty for two people. We loved this — what is not to like about deep fried onions dipped in ranch?! Bonus: check in on Unilocal and get it free! WIN.
Grilled artichoke: we got ½ cut in ½ (quarters) as our selected appetizer. My date never had this before in his life and I told him this is a misrepresentation. There was barely any meat on the edges and it was grilled too limply. They had a lemon dip sauce on the side but, again, barely got any artichoke in there. PASS.
Cornbread: this came with our entrée. Nothing spectacular but it was really yummy, especially with the whipped butter. WIN.
3 meat platter–
Ribs: definitely our favorite of the night. It was very tender, smokey and delicious. Too bad we only got 4 pieces. Future visitors– make sure you order a full rack and skip the…
Brisket — nothing special here. We didn’t finish all of this as it was just meat drenched in bbq sauce.
Pulled pork — this one I actually rank above the brisket. It was soft, smokey and the right amount of tang and spice. Too bad we were so full.
Mac and cheese — I was overjoyed with this but the date said, it’s nothing special or amazing. To which I responded, yeah but it wasn’t bad. Sad. This is what it’s come down to. Our dine OC dinner is just what is edible!
Baked beans — ehhhh even if it came in a brown sauce it tasted flavorless. PASS.
On to dessert — peanut butter pie crust topped with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate, almonds, whipped cream. I don’t know if it was just that we were so full but it tasted again, not bad but not special. I did like how light the vanilla ice cream was in contrast to the peanut butter pie crust (perfect for pb lovers).
All in all we were disappointed we wasted our dine OC on this deal. Also because I am frugal, i calculated all of the items together and realized we weren’t even getting a deal! Because we got half appetizers or quarter of this meat n that meat, I even calculated with fractions of prices! Everything is just packaged together for you but it’s equal to paying the same price a la carte. What has Dine OC come to???
Oh also, refrain from ordering the made-​man Manhattan. When I ordered from the bartender I knew I should have switched to a beer when he couldn’t repeat what I just ordered (even though it’s on the cocktail menu). He definitely overdid it on the club soda. It was weak and over carbonated.
Save your money!!!

The scent of bbq was on the chill night air. Smoke streamed from the chimney on the roof. The dining area inside was large and the booths comfy. Lots of fried and bbq options on the menu. I chose to start with the fried zucchini. The fried zucchini was battered with onion ring style batter you see in many fast food places. Imagine a cross of flavor of half onion ring and half zucchini. Rather unique and quite delicious. Goes in my top 3 list of favorite fried zucchini!
I also tried the rib sampler. All the ribs are grilled then glazed with a sweet slightly tangy sauce. Beef rib was tender and had a lot of meat on the bone. Big beef flavor with sweetness from the sauce. Baby back ribs and the pork spareribs were very tender and had a good combination of pork and sweet bbq sauce flavor. The ribs were very good. My true bbq love is smoked dry rub ribs though.
