OC Weekly

OC Weekly is a brain vacation and the ultimate form mental masturbation.
I have been largely ignoring this local rag for years if not decades now. In the late 90’s it was marginally good for finding local music shows and soaking up spilled oil in your garage but these days it isn’t even worth its cost which is buck wild because OC Weekly is free. The local politics coverage is so biased NPR would grimace and Fox News would blush, the Arts and Film coverage is cliché at very best and the food commentary could be construed as a terroristic act.
The writing is complete garbage, the stories are boring and their opinions will make you want to perform a self administered frontal lobotomy with a framing hammer and corkscrew. Their advertisers are mainly crooked doctors selling weed licenses and bail bondsmen which speaks volumes as to who is really reading this steaming pile of rubbish. The quasi-​literate.
OC Weekly, can you guys close shop or at least move to Riverside county if they will take you?

The oc weekly is clearly ran by a bunch of lame dame hipsters with no real views of anything. This paper is only good for lining bird cages and nothing more. Trying to read anything other than where and when a hipster band is playing is like eating large shards of broken glass. Go bankrupt already or catch sars office wide already please. When I read the article «musicians don’t deserve to get paid» by Drew Aisles in the OC Weekly I was really pissed. I have been playing music for so long so this is highly ignorant from my point of view and also unusual that a writer would be so unsupportive of independent artists. They should be supporting local artists! OC Weekly is a bunch of Lazy writers with a minimal perspective on what reality is.

publishes news with tainted views. I wouldn’t even call it news. You get opinions on news. Once the truth comes out about the article, ocweekly will not retract the original article or amend it with the truth.
The journalists are hacks. They do not report the news, just their opinions. ocweekly may be ok for coupons, but I prefer to make my own conclusion on local news and not be led misled into what they think sells papers.
Worst news reporting I have ever seen!

The author who reported on Chuck Smith’s passing is cruel and heartless. How you can trash such a loving, giving and selfless person is beyond my imagination. This man just passed away and to have his family read your unkind personal opinion shows there is no humanity to be found here. I will not patronize any business who advertises with this publication. We live in a world where we are reminded daily of man’s inhumanity to man. Sadly, this publication promotes the disintegration of decency. I hope your family is never put thru the pain you inflicted on others.

Oc Weekly is one of the last no-​bullshit papers that writes it as they see it. «Ask a Mexican», «This Hole In The Wall Life» and The food column are always honest and informative. I look forward to reading my OC Weekly every week.

Like one of the Reviewers I too have a Love/​Hate relationship with this paper. However I will state that whatever your Polittcal leaning’ is, the articles for the most are informative and fairly unbiased. But enough of the OC Weekly I wanted to express my opinion on their ‘Best of for 2009′.
The OC Weekly recently released their ‘Best of for 2009′, as did another ‘Best of’ recently released by an Orange County based Newspaper, located in Santa Ana. The difference between the two is the ‘Best of’ released by the OC Weekly is based on research, intelligence and actual/Reporter’s/people who researched and wrote the articles, eating at the establishments and reviewing all the aspects of each venue. The OCR’s ‘Best of’ was based on whichever restaurant paid the highest in advertising dollars.
Look if you want to eat at Taco Bell, Denny’s, Subway or Pizza Hut and think or believe that you are actually eating in food establishment that is great in some aspect other than selling of pre-​processed foods out of a styrofoam box from a plastic environment handed to you by the mindless to the mindless. Well folks the OCR’s Best of is just what the ‘Clown in the Box’ will take your order for… read on, follow the recommendation’s dine away… but, far, far away from me.
However…if you would like to read REAL reviews about interesting places to eat or dine, that WILL surprise, offer you food that IS worth the drive or the money spent, (not because Pepsi co or General Foods has spent money to advertise but because a few people have spent the time and effort to actually eat a lot of crappy food and have found some real ‘Gems’), the OC Weekly ‘Best of’ is source for Dining places. Read and follow the recommendations found in the OC Weekly’s Best of for 2009, and enjoy the results of a lot hard eating research and reporting by folks that actually give a Hoot about what your going to experience, eat and most likely enjoy.
Times are tough and money spent should get you something that is worth the money spent. There is a reason that folks go to Unilocal to check up or find a place to dine. The reason is why blow your bucks on a Shit-​hole. Outside of Unilocal,if you are going to refer a publication for places to dine you can either go to OC Registers ‘Best of’ and confirm where NOT to dine, Using their rating system and using the first one on where to avoid at all costs. Or you can use the OC Weekly’s ‘Best of’ to find gems to dine at that probably won’t disappoint or maybe even surprise you!

I’ve got a love hate relationship with the ocweekly.
They do publish alot of great articles on topics that you wont find anywhere else (in print in the OC). R Scott Moxley has written some amazing stories covering CIA drug trafficking, Sheriff Mike Carona, the hypocrisy of Chris Cox, and so much more. I like the new writer Daffodil Atlan, and Gustavo. when he isn’t bashing «conspiracy theorists». They do expose many local scandals, and that is to be applauded.
but too many times are these gems drowned in all of the advertisements. The advertisements that epitomize most things i detest about OC. Breast augmentation, liposuction, and escort ads along with columns like Vickie Changs «Trendzilla» and other shallow entries… and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I mean I do realize that it is a free publication, that they must get their fundiing somewhere… it just all seems so sleazy. or maybe im wrong. i dotn know. when you combine the shallow articles, and advertisements, and fill up nearly half the paper with escort ads. it has a sleezy feel.
I still read the damn thing almost every week, so who the hell am i to talk.

some of the article are well written. gustavo arellano is a smart funny guy. i especially enjoy it when he is gets on the Santa Ana politicians. Lots of advertising, which is fine, it’s in the business plan. good to have something to read when you are taking care of bathroom business. have gone to a decent restaurant or two after seeing it in the weekly
