Nothing but great things to say about training with Eugene.
My roommate and I both signed up to train with him and got amazing results despite our very different goals. My roommate was a guy interested in bulking up while I was interested in trimming down and toning. Eugene customized a program for each of us that got us results quickly. We both worked out as a pair and followed the customized diet plans he created for each of us and were able to see results quickly.
He tailored each of our workout programs to our specific body goals and asked for our feedback along the way to make sure we were happy with the results that we were seeing. Eugene was really helpful in customizing the diet for my roommate and I. Even though he gave us very different diets to support our goals, we had mostly the same foods just in different portions. This made it easy for us to cook together.
Eugene has a great personality and was a great motivator, often checking in to see how things were going along the way. We tracked progress not just with the weight on the scale, but he also did body fat testing. The body fat measurements showed me that I was making progress when I was building muscle and losing fat, but didn’t show much change in weight. I really liked that he knew how to measure body fat and used that to track progress and adjust workouts.
The workouts he designed were intense but he made them fun and enjoyable so they quickly became my favorite part of the week. During the workouts Eugene is really motivating and really helped to push me further then I would have on my own during each workout. He also is very knowledgeable about proper form so I knew I was always performing the exercises correctly and not risking injury. I think this really helped fast track my results and made it so that I got the most out of each and every training session that I had.
In the end I was extremely happy with my results and believe I have never looked better. I felt the strongest I ever have, found I really do love lifting weights, and was able to run an Ultra Marathon shortly after the training program. Bottom line is that if you want results and a trainer that will help push you and give you a comprehensive plan tailored to your specific goals Eugene is the trainer for you.

I couldn’t believe how fast my body changed. There was such a noticeable difference within the first 3 – 4 weeks it made it easy to keep going. And I had a blast training with Eugene. He is very good at keeping you motivated, I was quite impressed. Some of the days that I would go train, I would be feeling down or stressed about work, but as soon as the workout began all the negativity goes away. I miss some of the funny comments he would make to keep me pumped up.
A couple of the exercises I had difficulty with due to a shoulder issue, however, Eugene being the pro he is, was able to easily modify the exercise in a way that allowed me to be effective but not cause further injury.
I would and have recommended Eugene to friends.

Trufkin and Eugene have been one of the few best investments I have made for myself, ever!
In the past few months, Eugene had customized my exercise and nutrition program that’s catered to my goals (which was to lean down in body fat %).
Service: The assessments and consultation were really thorough and in-​depth. Eugene wanted to make sure he’s providing the best answers, tools and tips to my success. Of course, with just about anything that’s worth it in life, this investment for myself will take a lot of work (and it did). Was it easy? F** no. But with the help of Eugene, he also trained my mentally to be dedicated and self-​motivated because it is entirely up to me whether I wanted to accomplished my goals or not. Hiring him was a great decision to help get answers, and stay accountable.
The Gym: very spacious and has a lot of equipments that can get you closer to your goals. A few of the stuff you won’t see at a few commercial gyms: sleds for conditioning training, battle ropes, bumper weights, kettle bells from 9 – 100 pounds, different types of strength training machines, TRX, and barbell landmines. Parking lot is very spacious and it’s not reserved. The front end of the gym offers other services that aren’t included with Eugene’s like massage therapy and chiropractic.
Result: After working with Eugene through training twice per week and being consistent with my diet. I was able to shred down from 175 to 165 pounds and decreased my body fat percentage from 17 to 10% in 3 – 4 months on and off.
I am very happy with my results and I HIGHLY encourage both men & women to sign on board and take up this challenge. You will not regret it.

Eugene is a dynamic trainer, he’s knowledgeable, committed and has genuine interest in clients fitness goals. Aside from being professional, Eugene has great sense of humor which can be entertaining for most people while going through the painful training process. I would recommend Eugene for anybody who’s serious and committed about training and improving their physical form.

Finally found a trainer that is AWESOME! Eugene will push you to your limits and is a trainer that really knows his stuff. He even wrote an awesome book that I highly recommend. He has an awesome diet and workout plan that will make you stronger both physically and mentally. If you want to see results, then Eugene is your man. He is very detail oriented when explaining workouts and truly cares about his clients unlike prior personal trainers I’ve worked with. He keeps the workouts intense but fun and my wife now thinks I’m a stud again thanks to Eugene. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Eugene is awesome! He kicked my butt when I thought I was pretty strong. He humbled me and revealed my weaknesses to me so that I could get better at what I love which is running. He is such a hard worker and will do everything he can to help you get the results you want! And he is living proof that his methods work! And he knows so much about health and fitness. I have a Master’s in Kinesiology and I know a lot about health/​fitness but Eugene is always able to teach me something new. He is always educating himself and becoming better at what he does!

I had one of the best and life changing experience with Eugene. He knows exactly what he’s doing and designs a perfect workout plan to get immediate results. This is not going to be easy, he will push you until your body starts to cry but in the end, it’s all worth it. You have to give it your best in order to leave with great results. You do build a one on one connection with him and follows up with you after your workouts to make sure you feel comfortable and satisfied.
Not only will he teach you how to workout but also show you how important your diet is to your workout plan. By buying and cooking your food, you will feel so much better and save you so much money.
Also recommend reading his book. Very simple and straight forward but with great points and definitely a way of changing your viewpoint in life.
If you are looking for intense workout with great transformation, I would HIGHLY recommend to go with Eugene.

In a world of «quick fixes» and «5 easy steps to fat loss», it is refreshing to find a trainer that cuts out the b.s. and focuses on the importance of consistent hard work and nutrition when it comes to getting his clients’ results. I have followed Eugene’s work for a while now (I live abroad and can’t work with him directly) and have always been impressed with his programming and client transformations. I purchased his book «Laws of Aesthetics» the day it was released and followed one of the programs for many months. In that time I improved my bench (my nemesis as a long-​armed individual) and leaned out a bit without modifications to my usual diet. I envy those in the OC area with the opportunity to work with him directly!

Eugene is the REAL thing! I owe him all the improvements in my work-​out routines and intensity. Equally remarkable is Eugene’s focus on improving my diet. Over six months, I lowered my body fat to less than 11% with substantial increase in lean body mass. He was very flexible in accommodating my busy work schedule. Looking forward to finally saying good bye to W-2’s so I can train with him again. Hoping to kick this off this summer!

Working with Eugene literally changed my life. His program is hard, it requires dedication, but it was so worth it. It took me 2 ½ months to drop 10% body fat and put on a ton of muscle. Eugene is very specific about his goals for you. He’s great at getting your form exactly where it needs to be, which is most important for me since I wanted to continue to be able to work out well after our program was through. Eugene offers the option of working with another person during your training time. I did this and never found that it impacted my ability to train. He gave great amounts of attention to both of us. Training with Eugene actually saved me money because I stayed away from eating out and started cooking my own food. Way cheaper! Overall I can’t recommend Eugene enough.

Overall. Not impressed. I thought I would be. I had high hopes. My overall impression of Eugene is negative and disappointing. Let me explain why. First. He does not do his own consults. He has an assistant do them. Yet he sits a couple yards away at the front desk of the club and listens while the assistant is doing the consult. Then when you question why he doesn’t do the consult himself, he explains his role as similar to an eye surgeon. Saying that he is the expert and no eye surgeon would ever do a consultation themselves before performing surgery. Yes, it’s true. I’m happy to share that email dialogue between Eugene and myself if anyone’s interested. I personally found this comical, as to me, after working with many personal trainers over the years, know that you have to develop a very close in our personal one on one relationship with your personal trainer and it’s more than just a simple consult as an eye doctor would have been trying to determine if someone needs surgery on their eye.
Moving on, the second problem I had with Eugene. When I initially emailed him, I explained my very specific goals, my current weight, and My goal date (3 Months out), I also expressed my enthusiasm for working with him and my lack of issues surrounding any financial implications.
When I received a response, it was a canned email response, with all of his rates, and his phone number, and instructions to contact him if I wanted a consultation, (which I had already requested in my initial email). It was very impersonal. I was fine with that because I am sure that he gets a lot of inquiries because his website and video made him look so high-​caliber and impressive. I was also fine with the fact that he was not going to do the consultation himself… I could deal with it… although I should mention the main reason I was was a put off by it, was after I saw his rates. When someone is requesting $ 120 Per hour for a fee, I feel the least you can do, is a one hour consultation on your own, versus offsetting that to an assistant.
Needless to say I went to the consultation process with his assistant Emily and she was great. I left feeling motivated and enthusiastic and ready to get started. Emily had agreed that I was a great candidate for Eugene’s training and that it was very realistic but I could meet my goal. In fact, I was so excited that I was actually realistic, that I had even left feeling motivated to encourage my boyfriend to work out with Eugene as well.
A couple days later I got my results from Eugene. He agreed that I could reach my goal within three months. However, in that same communication he also told me that he only had one slot a week to see me. In that same communication he also told me that it would take three times a week to reach my goal weight. So I was confused. First, I was thinking to myself… ok, I have the money to pay you, yet you have 1 slot available a week, yet you are telling me I need three slots a week to hit my goal… and yet you don’t have them available…
To me this seemed like a bait and switch. I was beyond frustrated and annoyed and angry. And just overall disappointed. I mean, why even bring me in for a consultation if you have no time to accept new clients? Why waste my time and get me excited with your plans and recommendations if you have no time to accept new clients? I expressed in my initial email to you, Eugene, that I didn’t have time to wait I had a specific goal, with the specific motivation that I was reaching toward and you agreed that I could reach that goal… and then you tell me that you have no time to accept me as a new client. To me, it’s a bad business practice and misleading. And overall poor communication.
Therefore, my only warning for those who are considering going to Eugene is to make sure that you have some sort of verbal communication with him one-​on-​one before you start this process so that you don’t waste your time like I did. He’s a lot of smoke and mirrors with all the things that he has on his website And he’s a little too big for his britches, as far as I’m concerned! A very full of himself.

Eugene was amazing to work with. I was able to lose 40 lbs of fat and pack on 10 lbs of muscle working out with him. He knows his stuff, comes up with great variations in the workouts to keep it interesting, and keeps you honest with yourself. I went from a frumpy desk jockey to a fit, muscular, attractive guy. I can’t thank him enough for working with me in a way that pushed me to my limits and gave me the results I wanted.

Last year I made the decision to get in better shape. I was about to turn 45 and didn’t want to be a middle aged fat guy. I looked around online and was pretty overwhelmed by the number of personal trainers in the area. After trying a couple of them, I found Eugene and it was the best thing that could have happened to me — no joke. Where other trainers will just put you through a one size fits all workout routine, with Eugene, you get the whole package, a physical assessment and nutrition program, cardio, abdominal, and weight lifting routines tailored specifically to your needs. I went from 27% body fat down to 10%. My goal was to get in better shape. Instead, I found myself in the best shape of my life. Cliché, I know, but the results I got from working with Eugene were way beyond my expectations.
Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t easy. This isn’t magic and Eugene’s expectations are very high, but he pushed me and motivated me to stay focused and dedicated all the way and what I ended up with was mind blowing.

Eugene delivers results. I have lost more than 40 lbs with Eugene. My pants size has gone down from ³⁴⁄₃₅ to ²⁹⁄₃₀. My shirt from from L to M/​S. My man boob has basically disappeared. My body fat has decreased from almost 30% to roughly 13%. Also, my blood test has been amazing. Aside from all those, the most important thing is that I have learned how to live healthily. I learn how to exercise and eat right.
Journey with Eugene is not easy but it is worth it! With that said, Eugene will push you to the limits. Make sure you are willing to do that.

I went in expecting to make very small changes to my body, but my goal was to get more fit and learn my way around a gym. 6 Months later, I’ve lost 30lbs of body fat, toned my body, and no longer feel intimidated at the big gyms. This is all a result of Eugene’s tireless dedication to what he does.
He doesn’t just give you a few exercises and simple measurements, like you’d expect from most trainers. He helps you set a goal and then develops a custom nutrition and workout plan to reach that goal. Eugene would take my measurements weekly and change up the workout every three weeks to ensure I stayed on track. He does this with a killer attitude, positive motivation, and plenty or Arnold Schwarzenegger impressions.
I always thought of the gym as a chore and dreaded going, Eugene pushed me to make a better me, and I could never thank him enough.

I’ve trained with Eugene for 3 months now. I started off at 120 lbs (5’7″) and am now 145 lbs. My chest measurement has increased FIVE inches, shoulders increased FIVE inches, arms increased 2.5 inches — in NINETY DAYS. The numbers speak for themselves, but let’s be thorough.
When you look for a trainer, you don’t want a drill instructor spitting in your face and you don’t want a pansy that’s going to complain to you about his or her life. Eugene is the balance. He won’t waste your time and he won’t talk down to you, but he will push you to positive failure. You also don’t want a trainer who is just going to teach you exercise motions. What makes Eugene a complete trainer is that he also has a fundamental understanding of the physiology and biochemistry behind exercise science. The guy had a 3.7 GPA at UCI — he’s a smart guy. You get a complete program with him — diet plan, workout plan (from warmup to recovery strategies), and progression tracking through weekly measurements. Oh, and your form will be flawless (as you silently grin at others doing things all wrong).
My personal experience was that after the first 30 days, I suddenly realized I looked like a different person. It’s part personal trainer, part personal effort, so don’t go thinking he’s going to wave a magic wand to change you. The first couple sessions (especially) will kick your butt.
Bottom line is: if you’re going to get a trainer, make it count; don’t skimp out. Don’t waste your time on a cheap average Joe trainer at some chain gym just because you can save a few bucks and get a few extra sessions. Anyone can be a trainer nowadays. In the end, you get what you pay for. Find someone that has the results you want for yourself. Get that quality trainer once, learn what it takes to get the body you want, and after a few months, apply that knowledge on your own. It’s a one-​time quality investment that keeps on paying back.

There’s not many places that i’d set aside time for to write a review, but Trufkin Athletics truly deserves a try.
Not only is he one of the best personal trainers I’ve ever known, he is down right a super solid guy. I have no problem trusting him in ANYTHING he says. If I remember correctly, he holds a B.S. in Psychology so not only does he know the body and how to get the body to do what you want, but he can get you to do it as well.
He’s not part of the crappy dooshbag/​meatball «fitness trainers» that you can get at 24hour, UFC gyms and other private trainers, but Eugene can give you the one on one attention, the plan to get you moving, the motivation to keep you moving and the tips and tricks to move better and faster, on top of being one of the best guys I’ve ever gotten a chance to know.
DO NOT hesitate to give Eugene and Trufkin athletics a try, you won’t regret it!

Best trainer EVER. Trains your physique and your mind to keep it up! Never met another trainer like him. My photos of progression are on his website as well as on here for anyone to see. I’m in the best shape of my life and it’s because I chose to train with Eugene Trufkin. He is real, he’s dedicated, and all around an inspirational human being to be around. Training has turned from a necessary chore to a hobby for me over the past 10 months. Seeing the transformation happen while also learning about what I should /​shouldn’t eat has made me a believer that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it and in this case the payoff is worth every drop of sweat.
