Yokohama is truly a hidden gem and never disappoints! Located in a business complex off of Redhill and Bristol in Costa Mesa, this quaint sushi restaurant far exceeds expectations. The owners, Ken and Kim, are incredibly sweet and hardworking. Ken is the chef behind the counter and Kim doubles as both the hostess and server. The restaurant is simply decorated, clean and unpretentious. The menu is extensive, offering everything from sashimi to sushi rolls to ramen to Japanese teriyaki bowls. They offer lunch specials and have a fantastic happy hour menu. The regular price menu is extremely affordable for the high quality dishes too! The fish is melt in your mouth delicious! I’m addicted! I’ve never ordered anything that I wasn’t impressed with. The pink lady roll is definitely one of my favorites. The yellowtail and salmon sashimi are incredibly appetizing too! You can even request them to be made spicy! I regular this place atleast once a week and have even coined my own speciality roll. If you like spicy, ask Ken to make you the«Amy’s roll» :) You won’t regret it! I am certain this diamond in the rough will quickly become a sushi joint favorite!

I guess that I posted my initial review a little prematurely. Came back a second time and my experience was horrible. Generally I would let a mistake go but this was just ridiculous. I ordered the chic teriyaki bowl again for lunch; paid the $ 1 extra for white meat. The guy there couldn’t figure out how to submit the order, evidently he was the cook. I waited patiently. So eventually they ring me up and my rice bowl is prepared. I took it to go and back to my office to eat. After the first bite of chicken, I can tell it’s extremely overcooked. I try a few more pieces and I can’t even bite into it. Wth? Long story short– drive back there to have them make me a new one. I paid $ 12 for the thing so kinda had to. The lady apologies and is very nice about it. Then she takes it to the kitchen and apparently explains the situation. Not a huge deal, it happens. But the chef cooks me up some dark meat this time, puts my bowl in the microwave for a spin, drops the meat back on the same rice bowl and hands it back. Why? You messed up my order and served unbearably tough meat to a customer who overpaid and tipped. There is no reason for anyone to have an exposed microwave in their kitchen anyway. Have some damn pride. I won’t be returning.

Me and my boyfriend came for dinner and ordered the sushi C plate and amaebi(sweet shrimp). We were both impressed on how fresh their sushi and sashimi was. It was very flavorful and prepared wonderfully! The amaebi came with two pieces and the shrimp heads deep fried. It was delicious and cheaper than other sushi places we have been to($ 6.50).

We were looking for some reasonably priced sushi in the area when we stumbled upon a review of the happy hour at this place. Sushi was priced great on happy hour, $ 5 appetizers & sushi & $ 6 or $ 7 speciality rolls! Not to mention the $ 1.50 beer on tap! Service was great and we didn’t have to wait for a table. We’ll absolutely be going back!

Just had it for the first time and will be back weekly now!!! Bento box was great, but highlight was the sushi, which I was surprised by as the sushi at Maki Yaki wasn’t very good. Anyway, will be doing a big sushi/sashimi order next week. They also deliver, which is pretty amazing as well :)

While visiting from out of town I stopped by to have a bite… so glad that I did. It is a very small place, but thankfully I was able to quickly find a seat. The service was prompt. The important part, the sushi. It was fresh& flavorful. If you want a decent plate of sushi this is a good place to settle into.

By far my favorite sushi place. My wife and I live 30 mins away but we still come here at least twice a month. The sushi is so fresh and the rolls are absolutely delicious. My favorite: the sushi tacos, which is quite possibly the greatest two words ever combined!

I was craving for some sushi and came across this place while Unilocaling. I was skeptical at first since it has very low Unilocal reviews. BUT glad I went! Delicious sushi and special sauces that came with the rolls, at least for the ones I ordered! I.e. Jalapeño Bomb, Salmon Tacos(not on menu), Albacore sashimi w crunchy onions(w/added lemon slices), Pink Lady rolls(w/added lemon slices). Delicious!!! OOoh did I mention I LOVE sushi with slices of lemon-!!!and I also requested for some sriracha sauce. Sooo overall i was satisfied with all the items I ordered and thinking of giving this place 5stars, BUT here comes the bill. there was a $ 2.50 charge relating to a Special Sauce… turned out to be the sriracha sauce. I was SO Hurt. They didn’t tell me there’s an extra charge for the sauce .Next time I’ll bring my own sriracha sauce. It’s 2 bucks for the whole bottle at any Asian store. ANYWAYS, I recommend the food! But if ure like me and like to eat ur fish w sriracha sauce, be sure to BYOS!

Who wants to cook after a day of shopping? Not I. I was craving some sushi and remembered seeing this place on Unilocal.I visited this location a couple of times when it used to be called something else. It looks like the interior got a face lift. It’s a mom and pop establishment and ‘mom’ was very pleasant and friendly. Ordered the yummy roll, chicken katsu, and veggie tempura. Everything was delicious. Freshly made to order. Great place for take out or a quick bite. Bonus stars for a drive thru Starbucks in the same parking lot to wash it all down with your favorite drink.

This place re-opened where a Maki Yaki was, same telephone number and everything! I only discovered it since I went to call a takeout order to Maki Yaki and they answered the phone under a different name. The place really has been spruced up however. Previously, I would always treat it simply as a takeout place but they have certainly made some small adjustments that make it feel a bit more welcoming for eating in(it is still very tiny though!). The menu and pricing looks very similar to what MY had which was a relief for me. I typically always get the udon combo which comes with shrimp tempura and ½ of a crunch roll. The shrimp tempura was cooked perfectly! The only downside is the old place would wait until I was in the shop until they cooked the tempura, that way it was extremely fresh and not soggy by the time I got home. The udon could’ve been hotter but again, could’ve been sitting for a bit before I got there. I cannot comment on the sushi but they have a large list of specialty rolls, all priced around $ 10. In addition to sushi they also have bento boxes, noodles and rice bowls.

Pink Lady Roll is to die for! Truly a hidden gem! I found this place on accident on my birthday. There were only 2 Other people in the restaurant when I walked in and I was a little unsure at first. I ordered the garlic edamame and fried rice with spicy tuna. I loved both appetizers especially since it’s hard to find a place who knows how to cook fried rice in spicy tuna perfect. Everything I ordered was delicious but the pink lady roll had my taste buds jumping for joy!!! Don’t let the exterior keep you from trying out this place. Please try and you won’t regret it!

My new favorite place on Bristol for Sushi… not what it used to be and this Sushi is fantastic. Small place but clean and friendly staff. Shhhhhh. They are going to start getting crowded soon. Just as good or better sushi than up the street.

AFFORDABLE and DELICIOUS!!! My favorite sushi bar in costa mesa — friendly staff, fresh high quality sashimi and sushi, tons of amazing rolls!!! This is a hidden gem in costa mesa. My favorite here is sashimi combo because it is so fresh and the sushi chef cuts his fish in thick slices. Also this place has a wide variety of rolls to choose from. I had rainbow roll, baby roster roll, and crunch roll and they are delicious. The sushi chef at the sushi bar counter is very friendly and fast with high skill delivering me the high knowledge of fish and can read customer’s demand and the server is extremely helpful and very friendly. Must try fried ice cream!!! It’s a bomb!!!
