I grew up going to Hunt’s Christmas Tree Farm — my father took us here every year to pick out a tree, even though there were numerous other places that were closer to where we lived. There’s a lot of charm to this Christmas tree farm, and I think that must be part of its pull. When you pull up to the booth upon entering, a man dressed as Santa Claus hands the driver a saw and enough mini candy canes for everyone in the car. You then take your car down a path that starts rather narrowly between two buildings(a house and a shed, I believe), driving by signs cautioning you against stepping on the«babes in the woods»(the little baby trees that haven’t yet grown). I always loved those signs, with the cute little trees painted on them! The path widens out and winds up and down, with lots of places to pull over and search for the perfect tree. We were always looking for a tree that wasn’t too tall, but was nice and full with a straight trunk. I loved running around there as a kid — it seemed like there were so many places to hide, and it has a bridge — what little kid doesn’t love that? There’s also an outhouse that I assume is functional but have never used — again, part of the character — you don’t see those everywhere anymore. Once you find your tree, you can either cut it down yourself or the staff will cut it down for you — they continuously drive along the windy path in their truck to help cut down the tree and then put it in the back of the truck and drive it towards where you pay. They wrap it for you and help to put in it the car or secure it on top of the car(yes, you can tip for all of this if you want to). Then you settle up on the other side of the same booth that you got the saw at, returning the saw and getting some more candy canes for any kids in the car. This year, all trees were $ 45. It would be nice to have a range of prices based on size — I hope they’ll consider that in the future. But other than that, I’d say this place feels pretty magical and that they seem to go a step above and beyond in comparison to some other Christmas tree farms I’ve been to. Admittedly, that hasn’t been many, but I think it’s notable that they’ll help you cut down your tree, drive it to the exit themselves, wrap it, and help you secure it to your vehicle. Santa Claus and the candy canes are a nice touch as well!
