Joel & Sons landscape construction is top of the line an amazing crew. Joel has been in this business awhile and his landscaping and masonry guys stay consistent and been with Joel for awhile. The whole crew shows loyalty and the utmost respect & professionalism!
I had a couple landscaper contractors come. I probably had seen a total of 5 until I made a decision of choosing Joel & his team. All the 5 did free estimates. Any landscaping company that would charge on estimate I would not choose in my opinion.
Joel came and did the free estimate. He even called when he was about 30 minutes away, which may seem small but that to me rates high in my book. Communication is always key. So the reason why I chose Joel was I just had this gut feeling/​intuition that he was honest and he really loved what he does. He’s very passionate about his craft. You always worry about these contractors they do half the job and run away with your money. There was great communication during the entire process.
I know a lot of people reading this are thinking does he charge a lot… Can I afford it? Joel has very reasonable & competitive prices and they are licensed which was very important to my husband and I. Just tell him what your budget is and he will have ideas in making your landscape just as beautiful without blowing your budget.
Anytime I had a question he always texted me back right away and he always checks in making sure I am happy with the work. And if there was something I was iffy about Joel would listen to my suggestions and added any new ideas I had in mind.
Also I had a question about the sprinkler timer and even when the job was done he went out of his way to come over and teach me how to use the timer. Some contractors once you pay them the final payment you have that fear it would be so difficult to get a hold of them, but not Joel. He is as honest as the very first day I met him.
He doesn’t just do the Covina/​Azusa/​San Gabriel area. If you are reading this and even in the OC area he will do jobs there as well.
My final thoughts are when you are doing anything to your home you take pride in it and are so scared in choosing the right contractors for the job. Joel & sons landscaping are amazing hard working group of guys who takes pride in each job they do no matter how big or small it is. They clean up after themselves and are very respectful. It was sad to see them go, but the work that you end up with will be breathtaking. If you choose these contractors you will not regret it. Look at their reviews prior to mine they are all amazing.
Once again thanks Joel for our beautiful landscape and thanks for always checking in making sure everything was running smoothly. Landscaping or any remodeling to the home can be very stressful & expensive but you really made it run smooth and communicated well. :)

You’ve come to the right place if you’re looking for a stellar top notch and professional job. We hired Joel to do our landscaping project after moving into our home a little under a year ago. I got tired of looking at weeds and dirt so I decided on a recommendation from a friend to give them a shot. So glad I made the choice to hire Joel. He is courteous professional and has the vision to make any project come through on any budget.
My wife and I wanted to go drought tolerant with a bit of grassy areas to entertain but we weren’t sure what we wanted. Joel asked a few questions to give us an idea of what would work. He’s easy to talk to and can work with any budget. We trusted him to create based on his vision. We were thinking mulch with color on one side of our back yard and hedges in the other side with grass thrown in. We also needed some concrete work for our driveway. His crew was impressive. They were always on time and worked hard and more importantly treated us as valued customers. My wife really appreciated how nice they were.
Joel not only designed a wonderfully colorful landscape with the addition of a few trees and perennials but he also installed the sprinkler system for the grass and installed a water efficient drip irrigation system for the plants we decided on. His crew installed Bougies, lavender, blood grass, day lilies and flax. They did both the front and back. They seemed small at first but over the next few weeks blossomed into the full, colorful plants we envisioned
Halfway through the project I realized my drain piping in my backyard needed to be replaced. No problem Joel’s crew was able to quickly dig up the old pipe and replace with new PVC. 110 feet to be exact from front to back. Those boys knocked it out fast!
In addition I wanted some hedges put in along the other side of the house to create some privacy and to create a dog run for our pups where they can handle their business. He installed star jasmine and also had solar lights put in to illuminate the pathway. Beautiful. We also had pea gravel put in since we wanted a drought tolerant sensible solution. It works! He also put in a French drain where our AC condensation line drained into the ground.
He put in nice river rocks to hide the exposed roots for our huge Modesto ash tree in our backyard and put in these cool little blue beard grass «bulbs» along the rocks to really pop and create this cool blue contrast Amon the white rocks. Really cool. I can’t tell you how many compliments I have received for the job he and his crew did. Oh and he hooked us up with a tree trimmer to trim out massive tree as well as a gardener to do weekly service since we had no gardening service.
He put in two banana palms as well as a Japanese maple tree to really highlight our beautiful landscape as well as dark mulch in areas where we didn’t want grass. Spotlights were added among the palms and trees as well as solar lights. Just look at the photos.

Having purchased our first home, my wife and I were very particular when it came to hiring someone to renovate our backyard.
At the same time, we were unsure what exactly we wanted done; how much we wanted to spend; and when /​how soon after moving in that we wanted to the project started … Essentially, we were the kind of customer that would cause most contractors to run– not walk– to their next appointment; we couldn’t make a decision but expected them to be helpful, patient, responsive and trustworthy.
Joel didn’t run (or walk) away. He was patient. He offered suggestions. He didn’t pressure us when we said we would think it over. After returning for a follow-​up meeting, he didn’t pressure us when we said we would think about it some more.
If this is where the story ended, you’d likely have all the information that you need to know that our experience with Joel was a positive one.
It didn’t end there however.
We gradually, slowly, finally decided what we wanted done and we chose Joel to handle it.
He handled it very, very well. He transformed our backyard, consistent with the vision we articulated and within the budget parameters we set.
He managed the project effectively, his team worked efficiently– working consecutive days without missing one or arriving late or leaving early on any one, the job was completed without a single reason for a complaint … Our backyard looks amazing, people don’t even recognize it.
We absolutely recommend Joel & Sons and intend to hire them to do additional work in the future.

I had talked to a number of landscaping companies and designers and many of them failed to to give, what I feel is proper customer service. However once I got in contact with Joel he was very prompt with his replies and always arrived at our appointments on time. We had to redo our entire lot (front and back) and wanted to keep it as drought tolerant as possible so during our initial meeting Joel had a lot of good ideas which impressed us. His businesses practices are very fair, we didn’t have to put down a large deposit like some companies, we paid as the project progressed.
The project went very smooth and he seemed to know when I had a question before I even asked. There was one point during the project where we wanted to change our fence line and Joel was able to make it happen seamlessly.

Joel was awesome throughout the entire process. We just bought our first house & the backyard was a desert wasteland with a dirt filled pool. Embarrassing to entertain, and not safe for our dog or our lil one so we found Joel & Sons on Unilocal.From the initial phone call to his first visit we were very comfortable with him. Joel never asked us the question of what our budget was either, which was nice. He let us tell him what we wanted and he came back with multiple options for us. His team of guys that do the work were very respectful and worked hard to get the job done fast. Once the job was complete, which shockingly took a lil over a week… we were so pleased! Joel since has been back a few times to check on the new yard and plants. He is honest, and a genuine hardworking family man. We HIGHLY recommend him. Thanks Joel for giving us a beautiful backyard to make family memories in. Also, he added some upgrades that he didn’t have to, to ensure our expectations were exceeded.

Ok, it’s been 7 months since the installation for my new sprinklers. Like I said before about the work and installation was great. The only thing I give a one star to is that NOT once has Joel bothered to come by or contact me to see if the sprinklers are still working properly or if there are any adjustments that need to be made. So, following up is NOT a good point here with this Joel and sons business. If you have a problem, hunting them down is probably the only way they call you back. Ok, this is my follow up!

When my dad passed away in February, my mom didn’t know what to do about the overgrown yard. It hadn’t been trimmed or taken care of for over 20 years and looked like Disney had transplanted the Jungle Cruise in West Covina. Joel came out and took care of everything. Leveled it out, replanted and made it look something out of Sunset Magazine. It is fantastic… and he (and the crew. thanks Martin) worked quick and were extremely friendly and accommodating. For a huge lot, they did a great job. HIGHLY recommend these guys!

I cannot say enough good things about Joel and his crew. I called a lot of different landscaping companies before Joel and Sons, and it was very frustrating. I honestly don’t know how some others are still in business. I also called a few larger scale landscapers, but I felt like they scheduled me out, because the job we needed done wasn’t a large scale project. So I ended up finding Joel & Sons on Unilocal.I called the number and Joel answered, not his secretary or answering service. We talked over the phone and I felt he had a good understanding of what my wife and I wanted to accomplish. So we set up an appointment for him to come out. Prior to him arriving, he had already looked up a view of our house on Google Street View, and had some viable options lined up when he showed up. After a few days deliberating with my wife, we decided on one of the layout designs he presented to us. He had priced everything out for us, and we felt his prices were very fair and reasonable. He never rushed us, and also took the time to answer all our questions and explain everything they would be doing. He set up a start date and finish date, and was very much on point the whole project. I must say we were very impressed with all the work. Our front Landscape looks like something you would see at a resort. He also upgraded our irrigation control to the Rachio weather based system ($ 80 rebate through watersense and uo to 30% water savings), which integrates with our smart phones. So damn cool! When we got home it was already dark, and It was phenomenal driving down the street, seeing our queen palms highlighted by our new led spotlights. Only to be delighted more by our new modernized front hardscape and drought tolerant vegetation. We are so happy with the way everything turned out, and are blessed to have met Joel. We will definitely be using Joel & Sons on all our future Landscape projects!

Joel and his crew were extremely professional and easy to work with. I provided the design of how I wanted to turn my yard into a drought friendly landscape and he had no difficulties executing the plan. He was always attentive and receptive and I appreciate the fact that he works on one project at a time. He doesn’t try to juggle several customers at once. He and his very efficient crew brought the whole project in within the time they said they would. That’s a first for me! I highly recommend this company for landscaping.

I have called 3 companies to come out for an estimate on the work I needed for my front and backyard. One company never returned my messages and 2 never returned my call to schedule an appointment. I called Joel and Sons. Joel picked up the phone the first time I called. He set me up with an appointment on the spot. Showed up on time as promised. Got the estimate emailed to me sooner than he promised. I was impressed with the customer service, I have dealt with over 6 different contractors that worked on my house for different things but none with the professionalism and customer service provided By Joel. They started work on the yard 2 days after I gave him the green light. He kept me posted with updates thru out the whole process. He also Finished on time as promised. His employees are professional and hard working. My house looks like a completely different house now after he was done. Joel has been out to check on the lawn and adjust the sprinkler timer 3 times since he finished the work to make sure it is growing properly. Joel has earned my trust and will be using him for years to come!

Writing reviews is not something I normally do, but I believe this one is worth sharing. I wanted to redo my back and front yard, so I went into Unilocal and looked up landscapers. This is also something I normally don’t do either. I usually get referrals from friend or relatives. However, came across Joel and Sons Landscaping so I called him and scheduled an apptmt. Right off the bat, I liked Joel he is very down to earth and will work with you to help you get your dream yard. He and his crew arrive when they are supposed to and complete the job when promised. You never have to worry about them not showing up to work. I now have an amazing back and front yard. It looks like my own private island, it’s truly beautiful. I can’t wait to have my first gathering in my new backyard. I will continue to use Joel and Sons for any future landscaping needs. I highly recommend him for any landscaping needs you may have.
One last note: Joel is not one of those persons that completes the work and never follow up. I had a couple of hiccups with my sprinklers and he came back and adjusted them. I am a very happy customer!
