This whole area offers historical evidence of the Civil War and how it affected outlying Metropolitan Atlanta small(ish) towns. The Railroad Depot bar and buffet offers not only great food but also ghost. I have personally talked to other patrons who have not only heard things and seen spirits but have photos of a few as well. These restaurants are a must for Georgia visitors as well as local folk. Don’t miss them. You will regret it. Richard Brinkley

Built in the old train depot in Covington, Thomas’s Country Buffet isn’t fancy but they make up for it with genuine Southern hospitality and a strong dose of country cooking that would make any native Georgian smile. If you are not a fan of country music, you’ll either hate this place or become a member of the Alan Jackson fan club by the time you leave. You pay as you enter and credit cards are accepted. Begin your food journey at the far end of restaurant and pick up a plate, knife and fork. The first table is a great place to start. I went with a piece of baked chicken, green beans, broccoli and rice casserole and stewed tomatoes and okra. Melanie went vegetarian that night and had the pinto beans, lima beans, black-eyed peas, boiled cabbage and the broccoli and cheese casserole. I’ll confess to having a second plate with fried catfish filets, mashed potatoes and gravy and another helping of broccoli and rice casserole. They have cornbread muffins, hush puppies, sweet potato soufflé, fried green tomatoes and more than I could ever begin to remember to list. There’s plenty of salad items to choose from and dessert is normally banana pudding(Melanie says it’s excellent), apple or peach cobbler and cake but they also have a wide selection of fruit to choose from as well. There’s more food that you’ll want to try than is possible to eat. If you are OTP east, Thomas’s Country Buffet is one of the few cheap eats that we recommend. The food is consistently good and it just might be the best deal in town. Guten appetit!

I love fine dining, but sometimes there’s nothing better than simple country cooking and this place is spot on. Be sure to wear your fat pants when you go, if you don’t leave hurting, you are doing it wrong!

Drove from Charlotte today to attend a funeral in Covington. Just happened to stop by this wonderful place for lunch. Wonderful vegetables, wonderful ribs. Really excellent country style food. Fantastic banana pudding. All you can eat for only $ 8.00? Wow what a deal. Love this place and if I’m ever in Covington again I’ll go again.

The food is good, great assortment at a reasonable price! The service is Great! Current Health inspection is 94 A — previously under a different manager their rating did slip, but since then the staff has worked hard to ensure your safety!

My family and I went toThomas two weeks ago and there was a sign on the door saying closed for repairs will reopen the next day. The next day we went back, we were told by their staff that they were closed because of a water leak. The real reason was they received a 34 on their health inspection and was closed down because of that. They Lied to us as customers and we will never go back there. A few days later it was also on the news that they found rat dropping and other bugs along with a list of other problems. Dwight

This is hands down the best country cooking I’ve had. If I lived here I’d take all my visiting guests here!

Thomas’s has really improved over the past few years, and it was outstanding this past Saturday night. Lots of choices for meat lovers, including BBQ ribs and great chicken(several different ways!) and lots of fresh tasting vegetables, and a crisp salad bar(the biggest in Covington). Terrific food, terrific value. Skip the trip to Social Circle’s Blue Willow, if you’re in it for the food. This is less expensive and just as delicious.
