Horrible!!! I went in this morning to order a cake for my husband’s birthday. It was only for about five people I wanted to smallest cake ever. As a begin to tell the lady I will if she can make me a cake for today she starts to yell at me saying, «for today, for how many people, I mean come on»…This is not the first time that they have made a cake the same day. My husband has bought me a cake from this place two years in a row when in the morning and got it at 5 o’clock.
Let me begin by saying that this place is overpriced anyway and I never wanted to tell my husband but their cake sucks!!! They have attitude problems and should learn to treat their customers with respect!!! NOT YELL AT THEM!!! It’s a cake! I will never step foot there again… And my husband is 1 of 16 kids. Can you imagine the amount of money you would’ve made off of us. SUCKS TO BE YOU!!!

This bakery did a great job for my nephews birthday cake. I showed them a picture of what I wanted and they did a neat job replicating. The cake was moist and tasted great as well. Haven’t tried their desserts but I do recommend for fondent cakes!

I’ve never tried their cakes but I did stop by the other day and picked up some custards and macaroons. The custard was delicious — perfect consistency and not overly sweet at all. It was also the perfect size for a mid-​afternoon snack. My husband and I loved the macaroons. They have a few flavors — chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and raspberry, among others. Each one we tried was great — my husband has brought me back macaroons from NYC and these were just as good. I can’t wait to go back and get more.

I love this place we had three cakes done already with them one for my birthday for New Year’s and my daughter’s birthday that was recent 01÷28÷14 i’ve also tried their pastries and sandwiches it’s all fantastic really nice people professionals and delicious!!! Recommended 100%

I went to the Cake Artist for my sister’s Baby Shower cake. I emailed back and forth with Ligia who was very helpful and gave me the price quote. The shower was for 14 – 16 guests and she recommended the 8″ which was a lot bigger than it sounds (we had enough for everyone and tons left over!).
The fondant was flawless and the cake was amazing (we had red velvet with cream cheese filling). We brought our own cake topper (from etsy) but they make those as well. Also, I’ve had other cakes in the past where the fondant tastes plasticky, but this fondant was sugary and delicious.
I definitely recommend Cake Artist for special occasion cakes and plan on going back in the future!

If you’re in Cranford, make sure to stop here. The food is high quality and the owners/​staff are wonderful. Always a well-​stocked selection and freshly made. Gluten-​free breakfast sandwiches, macarons, and brigadeiros are recommended!

They did a wonderful job with my son’s first birthday cake! Everyone was raving about the artistry and the tastefulness of the filling. The icing was light and allowed you to enjoy the cake without worrying about it sitting in your stomach.
I would definitely recommend!

I decided to stop by randomly today and was surprised when the sign said GLUTEN-​FREE. After talking to who I assume was the owner, he showed me the different gluten-​free treats they had.
Today they had Macaroons (the French kind), flourless chocolate cake, vanilla and chocolate cupcakes, and some pre-​packaged goods like sweet potato chips and gluten-​free cookies. They also have gluten-​free bread. I was advised to call ahead for the gluten-​free goodies as they are not always readily available. They make large orders per request, and even birthday cakes.
The GF chocolate cupcake was delicious and not overly sweet. The macaroons were a little hard, but just the fact that they even have macaroons will tempt me to try again.
And the owner also explained that they sanitize everything to avoid gluten contamination.
I’ll definitely be back.

I came in looking specifically for cupcakes, since I have been driving by this place everyday since they opened. The place is a mess. Papers and brochures are everywhere, old dusty cake samples that you can’t touch, even though it’s right in your face when you walk in.
There was very little to choose from. Some chocolate, some vanilla. The rest were some hodgepodge of leftover birthday party stuff from someone’s pile of rejects: a choice of the number «4» cookie, a star cookie, one pink frosted cupcake and few other weird leftovers. Since we were on a mission to get the cupcakes, we got 6 various kinds. We also got some pretty looking cake pops. They are just pretty looking, and not very tasty.
Sorry, but we won’t be going here again for cupcakes or cake pops.

Order a cake here for my daughters first birthday. Sat down with the owner and went over options. The cake was to be a ladybug them made with an icing top, and she was specifically told it was NOT to be fondant. Well, to my surprise, two hours before the birthday, I pick up my lovely fondant ladybug cake. Won’t be going back here.

Used cake artist for the first and last time. Although the cake was very pretty, that only takes you so far. For the amount I paid it should have been delicious. It was extremely dry, and had no flavor. There was barely any icing under the non edible fondant. The filling was barely there, and what was there tasted terrible. No one had more than one bite before throwing it in the garbage. Unfortunately I had to throw the left over cake in the garbage as well, it was not worth the calories. Next time, I pay for taste not looks!!!

This place is great. Ligia has been making cakes for special occasions for me for many years. She can do anything that the «Cake Boss» and other ridiculously expensive bakeries make and charges less for beautiful, detailed cakes. Most recently she made my son’s baptism cake. It was delicious and beautiful, we had one layer vanilla cake with cookies and cream filling and the top layer was red velvet with cream cheese filling. They also make cake pops, cookie favors, cupcakes, mini cake favors, etc… and the cappuccinos/​lattes here are very good.

I received a coupon: «Buy 3 cupcakes, get 3 Free» — in the mail for Cake Artist Café. The coupon features a photo of an exceptionally beautiful cupcake that enticed me (at 9 months pregnant) to make the drive from several towns away into Cranford, park at a meter, and waddle across a busy street to visit this place.
I entered the store and was immediately pounced on by the man behind the counter who asked me if he could help me. I didn’t have much of a chance to look around but I spotted a very small selection of cupcakes. I asked him if those were the only cupcakes he had. He asked me what I was looking for and said that «they were making fresh cupcakes that would be out later this afternoon.»
Well, admittedly I was disappointed with the selection of cupcakes. There were less than 10 left on the two large trays. No vanilla butter creams at all. And, none of the chocolate cupcakes on the trays looked at all like the beautifully frosted cupcake in the photograph on the coupon, which is misleading. In spite of the fact that these cupcakes looked about as appetizing as run-​of-​the-​mill, grocery store cupcakes, I pulled out my wallet and was about to pick up half a dozen when I innocently asked, «I guess I will get some of these. they are not stale are they? When were they put out?»
I apparently highly offended this man because he literally flipped out on me, exclaiming, «We wouldn’t put out days-​old cupcakes! They come out every morning!» I responded gently, «I didn’t say they were days-​old but you just said you were going to put fresh ones out later this afternoon…» It was at that point that I stepped back, turned right around, and left the store without purchasing anything.
This negative review is solely based on awful customer service — it was so bad that I refused to even buy anything there. I have never actually ate their food nor do I ever intend to after today. This place really needs to treat customers decently or know that there will be no customers. Right after this, I stopped over at the bakery in ShopRite in Garwood and picked up a half dozen gorgeous, Valentine’s cupcakes that actually looked (and probably tasted) a 1000x better than the ones at Cake Artist Café.

I decided to order my daughter a specialty cake with 3 days notice. I met with the owner who was very pleasant and accommodating. We decided on a two tiered Disney Fairy theme cake with cute embellishments. I am so excited to see it and will post a picture once complete. I did pick up some cupcakes as well and they were very good!!! I was not disappointed at all.

My son & daughter-​in-​law had a birthday cake and shortbread cookies made at the Cake Artist Café for their daughter’s 1^st birthday. It was done in the Chicka theme (Chicka is a character the baby watches on Sprout TV). They did a beautiful job ~ everything looked absolutely perfect! However, the large cake was dry. The cookies were delicious! I will upload a photo of the cakes (they also got her a small cake for her to blow out the candle on & «explore it») since it’s not in their website’s gallery, but to do so, it would appear as a photo for the website, not just my review.
The Chicka cookies in clear bags and were given to the guests as «favors».
Since my son & his wife are residents of Cranford, they prefer to do business with the local businesses in town; they were very pleased!

My boyfriend and I have driven past this new bakery many times, and one Sunday morning, we walked over for a late breakfast treat. The owners are pleasant and talkative. There weren’t a lot of options out on a Sunday, because they’re only open half a day, but I chose a croissant and really enjoyed it. My boyfriend chose a lot of cookies and liked them. The coffee was really delicious. We also liked looking through their binders of cakes — there’s lots of great ideas and I’d definitely like to try their cakes, since it’s what they specialize in. I’d like to come back another day and see what else they have to offer.

Update: received my cake for my friend’s 50^th birthday, I gave her a picture of exactly what I wanted it (which was a mercedes cake). The cake itself was not too complicated as far as what I wanted because I had a mercedes topper. What she made was beautiful, my friend almost dropped to the ground when he saw it. We all loved it! it was just like the picture. Taste wise it was a little dry but still good. I was very happy with my order!

The appearance of the cake was 5 star all the way. It was beautifully decorated. But the cake itself was dry and stale. Four of us ate it, nobody wanted a second piece. We expected better!
