History

Established in 1973.

Acme Liquor Store began in the early 1970’s at the location that is currently adjacent to the True Value hardware store. in the early 1990’s when McDell’s market (currently Clark’s Market) opened, the store moved and was a stand alone, single wide building. in 1997 the Majestic Plaza was built around it and Acme expanded to occupy the current two store fronts as it is today. in 2012 Acme Liquor was purchased by locals Peter and Amanda Cook. Peter had worked at Acme for 7 years prior to ownership and Amanda is a former middle school band director and percussion professor at Western State Colorado University (though it was just Western State then).

Peter moved to Crested Butte in 2002 with three things on his mind: Hang Gliding, Hockey, and Extreme Telemark Sking. He found it all here in Crested Butte. Eventually also finding love, marriage, and family, Peter was able to purchase Acme Liquor Store (on 12÷12÷12) and has been managing it full time ever since. Knowledge of wines from around the world is his strength.
