The worst!!! Waited for damn near 2 hours to get my food and I live about 5 blocks away from the joint.

Do not waist your time ordering from these place. The first time I ordered they waited an hour later to tell me they did not have what I ordered did I want something else. After that the food didn’t come for another 1hr and :30mins, they said they would give me something on the house for the wait never did. Then I just tried to make an order on eat 24 and something said call so I wouldn’t have this issue again and load and behold they have no one to deliver my food right now… I will not be ordering from them again period. Order at your own risk. If you live close I suggest you just go to the restaurant directly. Don’t waist your time for delivery.

I’ve been coming here prior to them being at this location on Ralph Ave. The soul food is amazing and you get a lot for your money. The place is inexpensive and the fried whiting, shrimp, and turkey wings are a few of my favorite dishes from here. I recommend this place to anyone looking to get their money worth!

I ordered from this restaurant 3 times in total and the last time was horrible. The first time was great I ordered fried catfish with fries pretty decent, but this last time was gross. I had BBQ chicken wings with Mac n cheese and not only did it arrive an hour and half late the food was cold and not very tasty. My family also ordered and their food was gross as well, cold soft French fries and one of the orders was left behind during the delivery. I don’t think I’ll order from here again. I’ll go back to Xcellence Soul Food at least the food is WARM and TASTE good. Big disappointment with Halsey Street Grill. Need to get more organized and hire better cooks who can actually cook good food.

Ever get the feeling like someone is trying to pull one over on you? It sucks. Here’s what happened.
I ordered a chicken dinner, it came with two sides, so I got greens and string beans. Then I asked for extra sides of mashed potatoes and rice & beans. The lady at the counter explained to me how there are two sizes, small for $ 3 and large for $ 6. Large was way too large, so I got smalls of each. She scooped the potatoes into the container, and put rice in the other container. The one with the rice was maybe 80% full, and I asked her to just put a little bit of black beans in there. She took maybe a half scoop, and patted them down so the top would go on.
Then I went to pay. It came to $ 19. No credit cards accepted, so I paid cash. When the receipt came out, the woman immediately took it and crumpled it up instead of giving it to me. So I asked her for it. She does, and I see that not only was I charged $ 3 for the mashed potatoes, and $ 3 for the rice, but I was also charged $ 3 for the beans. I was kind of taken aback by this and as she was helping the next customer I asked about the bill, and if she really meant to charge me $ 3 for the beans. She confirmed, and I left kind of in a daze.
I asked for rice and beans. This is a thing. Nobody would have to pay double for macaroni AND cheese or liver AND onions. The $ 3 was for the little plastic container full of food.
It’s situations like this where I can’t help but feel taken advantage of. I’ve written before of the «gringo treatment» where because I’m white at let’s say a Chinese restaurant and I don’t get the same level of service or food that Chinese people get. Was this the same? Was I being treated differently because I was the gringo? Or do the servers at this establishment try to pull the wool over everybody’s eyes?

You know I can’t believe that no one in the hood every Unilocal them. All I have to say is Awesome and not just one thing… Everything. Lets even talk about customer service. From the time I walked in the door very very pleasant. This is real soul food and your missing out like I was if you haven’t tried it… And they have white meat.
