I visited this establishment at the suggestion of a coworker needless to say the women there were very informative. The gentleman there gave me a delicious tea that i purchased along with some other items. The people were direct did not sugar coat their views. I like that in people. I would definitely return. I do my own research so i was not disappointed with their views. I hope the items i purchased are helpful as well… Stay tuned.

I wish there were an option for negative stars. I can’t even explain how ripe with boiling anger I am. I have been a careful vegetarian since I was 10 years old. I have put so much effort into keeping my body free of other animal’s presence. So much taunting through high school, so many long talks with waiters at restaurants, so much strife over this, and of course it’s a health store that flushed my hard work down the drain.
A while back, after an injury, I went in to look for something to help the recovery process from having broken 7 bones. I said I was having a hard time healing because I’m a vegetarian and I smoke cigarettes and I’m not super healthy. I went into detail about how hard it is to get all my nutrients without meat or fish. She gave me a few options, the first of which was «Joint Lube» which I tried in store. I then bought a $ 16 dollar bottle that needed to be refrigerated after opening. I took it home and began use.
I had been taking her «Joint Lube» for months. Just this morning, I offerd a shot of it to my boyfriend. He says he wouldn’t drink fish oil, to which I say «oh, it’s called Joint Lube. It’s from this lovely health food store on Vanderbilt» to which he said, «yeah, but it’s fish, Asia. Fish oil.» I read the ingredients.
–Crab, shrimp, lobster and prawns.
I will NEVER let the words «lovely» and that store name cross my lips in the same sentence again. They’re not trying to keep people healthy or happy, they’re trying to flip marked-​up fish oil to people like me to afford their faux bohemian attire.
Don’t trust their façade, they just want your money.

My neighbor encouraged me to go to this place and I made the mistake of reading the reviews before hand. I was actually SHAKING as I entered!
What people might not understand is that while Muntu (the owner) is a bit abrasive, she is very informative, attentive, and genuinely cares about her customers’ well being. No matter what your issue is, she wants to get to the root of it and provide the perfect solution.
Would you rather go to a place that sells you crap but smiles and compliments you a lot? There’s probably a fast food joint that will stroke your ego down the street (oh dear, now I’m becoming abrasive).
Muntu turned my health around and I wish I saw her earlier so I wouldn’t have wasted hundreds at my dermatologist.

Haha after reading the reviews I still decided to visit this place more for the satire. Well as it lacked in variety of products it didn’t in rudeness. You can almost feel the anger and you’re not welcome vibe when you enter. The staff didn’t much want to be bothered, everything is overpriced and doesn’t seem to get much business. Which makes me question how long products remain on shelves I mean how much healthier than a cupcake is it after 2+ years. I didn’t receive any direct insults but wasn’t invited to spend my money either… its weird. They should just shut the store front and sell online, that way they don’t have to deal with people.

All raw organic juice/​smoothies for way less than juice press or organic Avenue and with more interesting flavors.

Ok Look people. The woman exhibits a kind of tough love approach and at the end of the day she speaks truth. I am all the way in California and frequent this establishment when I am in the east. She simply wants you to live. Yes, you probably could go somewhere else and buy the same products and have a nicer experience, it’s your choice. In any case, I learn a lot from her, you simply need a thick skin to hear the truth from her. Not all of the teachers assigned to us in this life may be happy go lucky all the time…

You WILL have a bad experience if you visit this shop. The energy in there in fowl. You will be treated with no respect.

Shopping here (or attempting to) was the most uncomfortable customer service experience I’ve ever had.
I would never go here again, which is a shame, because I happen to agree with the prevailing philosophy of the store (which is the healthfulness of a plant-​based diet).
The salesperson made some seriously outrageous claims such as:
1. Chicken consumption causes fibroid tumors
2. Belly fat is eradicated by doing crunches
3. The sole cause of body fat accumulation and retention is the consumption of animal products and biprodoucts.
I concur totally with the reviewer who said that the store could have been a seinfeld espisode comparable to ‘soup nazi.‘
A little light and love goes a whole lot further than fear-​mongering and judging.

Muntu (that attractive elderly woman who own the place and insults just about everyone) is TRULY a piece of work. Namaskar is one of those rare «only in Brooklyn» establishments that should have been on «Seinfeld» along w/​the «soup Nazi». If you’re not in the humor for a very «sarcastic» elderly woman who doesn’t understand the value of interpersonal skills (and the resulting loyal following that ensues when you «kindly» educate your customers)…enter at your own risk. She prides herself on «seeing/sensing».the «truth» w/​nothing but attitude to back it up. The reason for the «power play» is anyone’s guess. Please BE an educated consumer NEVER take 4 colon cleansing capsules from ANYONE w/​o having read the ingredients on bottle they came from. They have NO IDEA of your medical history or sensitivities.
I was actually very surprised to experience and continually hear ongoing experiences about these owners — one in particular (Muntu) My experience with others in the health/​wellness industry has ALWAYS been a GENUINE, kind, caring, loving, information exchange. Not dismissive attitudes and insults to customers. What IS THAT?! That’s so counterproductive to being healthful, organically cleansed and beautiful… INSIDE and out. You’re never too old to learn!

simply awful! as a vegan and health conscious this store has NOTHING to offer, but obnoxious owners who have no idea of what customer service is. Plus I have seen them selling Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, really? okay… not worth even giving a try! awful!

Walking by on Valentine’s Day, I glanced in the store and wondered if there might be anything in there my girlfriend would like. Upon entering the store, the woman asked how old I was and how much I weighed and said I could sure stand to lose a few pounds. When I told her that was none of here business, she showed me the door and told me to come back when I wanted to take better care of myself. Unbelievable.

Namaskar brings healthy living and nutritional education to the neighborhood. This is the only health food store I know where they give you a little cup of some kind of colon cleansing potion containing cider vinegar whenever you walk in the door. They have a wide range of vitamins, supplements, including their own line of Green colon cleansing products. Beware though — once when I was shopping there for ayurvedic toothpaste, the clerk generously gave me 4 green capsules and recommended I take them for a cleansing effect. At his suggestion, I took all four right then and there and was violently ill for the next two days.
