You can believe these 5 star ratings if you want, this place is no different than any other VA facility in the Chicago area. I called and was greeted by a friendly voice. She told me to come on in and register. I did, only to find out that it takes over a month to get an appointment and they don’t do walk ins. The place was absolutely empty, and they don’t do walk ins. This is just another government facility where the employees are paid well, and don’t do a dog on thing. They even questioned why I came to their facility instead of one closer. I went 30 miles out of the way to try and get good service, but the VA is the VA and the red tape will just about kill you. Thanks for nothing Veterans Administration.

Though me going here usually means that something terrible is afoot… it’s a great place. So… I’ve been going here for a while now. Yup, convoy duty messed me up somethin’ fierce. But, you know what, the VA is really good about? Making you feel like you’re not alone. Granted the wait can be a bit long at times and filling out paperwork sucks, they do take care of you. The lobby and waiting area are clean and have those«neutral» or «calming» colors… not sure if they work for me because I still get peeved when I’m still waiting to be seen for an appointment at 9:00 and it’s going on 9:30… Receptionists are pretty nice, chit chat a bit when you sign in but, generally they just kinda do their work, file papers and set you up with any follow-ups. You’d be surprised with the Medical Staff they have here, most are local Doctors and Nurses who know and care about the community they serve and will chat you up about where you went to school, and the local goings on… really helps take your mind off things and calms the nerves. They’re also very knowledgeable about their field and what I think is pretty nifty is that when they’re not sure about something they admit it and find someone or refer you to someone who is more versed in the subject, not try to guess and BS you through it. The offices and exam rooms are clean, warm and are decently furnished and equipped. Even though the budgets for any VA are pretty meager and they have help from donations, they get the best equipment the can and make due. There ARE some in Illinois and the Chicago area too but, as far as NWI this is pretty much the only VA clinic around. SYOY
