History
Established in 1927.
Cal Neva was built in 1926 and opened for business in 1927. It was the first legal gambling establishment in the entire United States. It was founded by a man named Robert P. Sherman. He was a talented football star from UC Berkley and he still holds the record for the longest punt in college football history. The hotel was sold to Frank Sinatra in 1960 and he owned it until 1968, although in 1962 he lost his gaming license when the FBI raided the property for his involvement with the criminal under world. Many of the worlds most famous and infamous people have performed and stayed at the Cal Neva from Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland to JFK and Sam «Momo» Giancana. Since the Cal Neva’s golden age of the 1960’s and 1970’s it has gone through multiple owners and has changed in several ways but it has stayed open through out the years and is still known as one of the leading resorts in the Lake Tahoe area.
