I had 3 «Deva hair cuts» from 3 different stylists and none of them have been what I had hoped for. Finally, I trekked all the way from North Hollywood to Culver City on a Thursday evening and got my hair cut by Ashley. It is everything I hope for and more. She’s not too chatty which is fine because after a long day in the office, I’m kind of tired. She cut my hair perfectly. I told her I was kind of a lazy girl and don’t really use product or anything I’m kind of an air dry sort of person, so when she styled it she didn’t put any product in it and just put my under the dryer. My hair is cut so perfectly that its not too dense at the bottom and lifted a little at the top. I just have thick wavy curls, and my head gets kind of oily after a day so its ends up being flat at the top.

Terrible experience… my daughter cried thru the entire 2 hour process. The stylist and staff (the self-​proclaimed ‘experts’ in black hair care) made me out as the antagonist, as I should have de-​tangled my daughter’s hair before I arrived. We left, defeated and emotionally distraught, with a head FULL of conditioner, ’cause they couldn’t de-​tangle her hair… yet they had the NERVE to bill me $ 100.00 for their shoddy, incomplete work. To top things off, Devachan corporate customer service once again suggested it was MY FAULT for bringing my daughter in with tangled hair.
Well, serves me right for trying something new. Heading back to our personal hair stylist, who does GREAT work. But I’ll make it my life’s work to let everyone I know Devachan Hair Salon SUCKKKKKKKSSSS!!!

Zero stars for the haircut and stylist; One star for the awesome shampooer (well, she deserves 5)
This was a couple months ago, but I wasn’t really posting on Unilocal at the time so I’m writing it now.
Sorry, I don’t remember the name of the stylist or the shampooer (just that they both had the same name which was funny to me).
The stylist literally didn’t talk to me at all during the entire cut. It was so awkward and uncomfortable. At times she would talk to other people in the room, but not me. I tried to make conversation and was shut down. Maybe because I look young and she thought I wouldn’t tip anyway? Who knows.
The cut was okay, but honestly didn’t look or feel any different from when I came in. And actually there was a lot of separation between layers so it looked clunky (Something I definitely DIDN’T want).
The cut was $ 100 and I gave a $ 20 tip (Because my manners wouldn’t let me tip nothing; even though that’s what she deserved)
Ugh. I get angry just thinking about it.
The shampooer was hilarious and personable though; wish she was giving the haircut.

I desperately needed a color correction and had an appointment with Ezzy. I cannot say enough about her!!! She’s incredible!!! And truly such a warm, lovely person. Not only did she slay my color, but she washed my hair and styled it herself because she wanted to personally teach me how to do it. The entire appointment she made my mom and I feel like family. Her hospitality was so incredible and she made me feel amazing. My color and styling took about 3 and a half hours and not once did she make me feel like I was taking too much of her time, on the contrary, she made me feel like she was actually enjoying every minute of it. If you need color done please PLEASE do yourself a favor and go see Ezzy because she is a magician!!! I will definitely be coming back to her!!!

Donatela is amazing! She is so sweet and cares a lot about her clients. She will go into depth about all the techniques and she’ll answer any questions you have about products or hair in general. She took her time on my hair which I appreciate because she made sure I got what I asked for. The salon itself is really nice and they pamper you :) love this salon!

Just got my first Devacut from Serigo and it’s seriously the best cut I’ve ever had. Fact! Ive bounced around from salon to salon everywhere I’ve lived (and I’ve hit all the major cities, NYC, DC, Chicago and now LA) desperately searching for a curly haired team like deva! Serigo and Paul know curls and know them WELL! They transformed my Brazilian mane of natural ringlets and tight curls into a completely manageable everyday wearable style! Also its a great space with an amazing line of products. Again I’ve tried everything… most recently my coming off of Ouidad and Carols Daughthers products and they don’t even come close to the No Poo Devacurl system! You’ll fall in love with your curls all over again every single day. Thank you guys!!! Already booked my second appt!

Awesome place for people with curly hair! I’m so thankful I found this place & super happy with my experience here. There should be more places like this one, just for curly haired people.

Donatella was very pleasant, gave the most amazing shampoo and scalp massage ever, and did a nice job calming my curls. She told me what products she recommended, but didn’t give a hard sell. I really liked the quiet, spacious salon and laid-​back vibe. And she didn’t even all too much (hallelujah!). Other staff members were friendly and easy-​going as well. Price for a cut is a little high, but worth it for the total experience. I also had a quick consultation with Esmerelda regarding color (on a future visit), which was helpful — but when I checked the prices for color, that’s where they lost a star. Too bad, because I’d really love the efficiency of doing cut and color in one appointment. But I’ll be back for more curl care!

About a month ago I went in and saw Philesha. I had previously went to the Curls Night Out Event and loved it! I loved it so much that I drove all the way from Simi Valley to get my hair done! It has been so difficult for me to find the right stylist to cut and style my curls the way I like. I was very nervous going in to get my hair done. But Philesha made me feel so comfortable! She was friendly and knowledgeable. She helped me so much with my curls. She listened to what I wanted then explained to me what she would do to achieve that I wanted. I loved that! She gave me tips on how to style my hair on my own, and even wrote it all down for me! And now even a month later I am still loving what she did! I will ALWAYS go to Philesha now whenever I need to do my hair.
The ONLY downside for me has nothing to do with Philesha, she was great. But a week after my appointment I received an email from Deva Curl saying that for those who attended Curls Night Out and made and appointment (and showed up of course) would receive a free Super cream or travel kit. I called Devachan in hopes that I can take advantage of the promotion providing I went to the event and went and got services from Devachan. (The number doesn’t take you directly to the salon, I think it goes to the salon in New York). But to my dissatisfaction the operator that I spoke with told me that they would not honor the promotion for me! This disappointed me a little bit because I was just so impressed by the service that I got at the salon. This is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Philesha was absolutely phenomenal!

Donatela cut my hair and did an amazing job! This was my first deva curl cut and I must say I am absolutely in loveeeee with my curls and never want to go to any other salon to get my hair cut. I am now a deva curl girl!!! Thank you Donatela for being so sweet, kind, transparent, and passionate about what you do. You did such a great job. You’re amazing!!!

Donatela is still as fantastic as ever! I’m continuing to love my haircut. It’s surprisingly easy to maintain. My curls have never looked better! I have to highly recommend the Deva Curl products too. I think they have made a major difference with my hair’s health! I haven’t brushed my hair since April lol. Which sounds a little odd but since I started doing things the DevaCurl way I haven’t had to! My hair styles as I want it to without much effort on my part :)

I had a blast at curls night out. I’m so glad I was picked for the no poo transformation. I was styled by Robyn. She is super awesome and sweet. Thank you for making my curls look fierce. Will definitely be back soon. Everyone in the salon was very friendly and helpful. Thanks again .

Be ready to be treated like a queen! This salon is hands down the best place I’ve ever gotten a haircut. Philesha is an absolutely sweetheart and had my curls on point. I asked her a million questions and she answered every one without an judgment/​shame — they take the time to teach you about your hair. I left feeling a million bucks.

Yes Devachan! I could not recommend this place more highly if you have curly hair.
I met Paul in the grocery store and he gave me his card. When I finally made an appointment and went in, he completely transformed my curls. He taught me detangling tricks and techniques that I WISH I had known for the past 20+ years. Their products are really great too, I’ve been happy with everything I’ve tried out. The space is beautiful, everyone is friendly, helpful and I’m excited to go back for my next appointment.

I absolutely love Ezzy and her sister Donatela! They have the best energy and are fantastic at what they do. Customer Service hands down is exceptional. I have received so many compliments on the highlights & lowlights from Ezzy! She listened and told me what would be realistic for my curl pattern and worked her magic. My haircut from Donatela gave my hair life and structure. Can’t recommend either of them enough, and have found my new stylists! This says a lot for this curly girl.
PS: Great spot for kids. My 10-​year old daughter went in for a haircut and they treated her like a princess. The cut made her curls so defined and frizz-​free that she received many compliments.
I am deducting a star because I had a billing issue with the front office that made me extremely upset.

Philesha is AMAZING! I have newly transitioned from a straight weave to a natural curly hairstyle thanks to Phileshia’s guidance :) As she washed my hair, she walked me through the step-​by-​step to process for washing and conditioning my hair. Before my visit, I didn’t know anything about my natural hair texture or any healhty ways to manage/​care for it. Philesha not only informed me of the ease and flexibility of natural hair care, but caused me to leave feeling empowered and invigorated.
I would definitely recommend Phileshia anytime you are looking to revamp your look, try natural, or just want to pamper yourself with a salon visit.

This place is amazing! From the wonderful chase lounge chairs for shampooing and detangling, to the super cool space pods coming down from the ceilings to dry your hair lol. I loved every second! I had the pleasure of working with Ashley. You can’t miss her. She greets you with a warm, friendly smile and beautiful red hair. She did a once over on my hair, started snipping, and my beautiful fro took shape again. Oh thank heaven! She shampooed and finger de tangled my hair. Also threw in a head and neck massage. It was magic. She styled me up and I was on my way looking fabulous as ever. Thank you sooooo much Ashley!

I’ve been wanting to get a Deva Cut for a very long time, but everyone I found through Unilocal was pretty expensive. Luckily, I was able to find Devachan in my favorite city of Culver City and its only 80 bucks! Christina did my hair and she was great. What I loved was that she was so nice and talked me through the whole process explaining everything from the cut, to the products, to how to wash and condition my hair at home. I told her I didn’t want my hair too short because I had some horrible hair cuts in the past where they just chop everything off, but she didn’t! I was surprised how healthy it was and hardly any length was taken off.
Its so awesome to go to a place that specializes in hair like ours, curly girls finally getting the love they deserve! Bottom line, I can’t wait to come back.
