Wow! After running medical offices for years, I know that it is difficult to actually spend time with a patient, have patience with them, treat them with respect as well as acknowledge their family members! Well, Dr Besser did just that.
My mother refused to visit an ophthalmologist for over 40! years! She wore glasses in her early life and then when those were broken or lost, she merely stated she could «see just fine and didn’t need them.» (So not the case!!)
She was diagnosed with moderate cataracts and vision of ²⁰⁰⁄₂₀ by Dr Besser and his staff – and although she continued to deny it all and refused glasses, Dr Besser and his office continued to smile and be patient with her.
Highly recommend this gem!

Besser is the «bestest»! I was referred here by my g.p. to be seen for my dry eyes. I am on Restasis but my eyes were still drier than I would have liked. I am not a candidate for laser eye surgery but I inquired about punctal plugs. He felt they’d be a good thing for me to try, especially since I’d like to try wearing contact lenses now & then and could really use them while working instead of my glasses. My insurance covered the plugs and in short order, viola! I had the plugs put in. I could feel immediate relief. They took 2 weeks to get used to but now I don’t feel them at all. I can’t imagine life without them! Dr. Besser was so knowledgable & professional and his staff is wonderful! Thank you for saving my eyes, everyone! Great opthamologist!!!

Just back from my first visit to Dr. Besser. I called at 9 this morning fearing an eye emergency and they fit me in at 10:30. Everyone in the office was so nice, the office is clean, spacious and comfortable. I was really impressed with the entire experience. Veronica and Kristen were especially nice. Dr. Besser was wonderful, very thorough, relaxed, personable, explained everything very clearly. This is the third ophthalmologist I have seen in a little over a year. He is the one I will go back to in the future. I feel like I am now in very good hands and I recommend him highly.

Love this doctor but the office is horribly run. Hey alway run about 1 hour late on appointments and cross/​upsell unnecessary services, which are resulting in patients waiting so long. They need a new office manager. There have been repetitive issues every time I have been here for over a year. It’s time to switch doctors unfortunately.

Dr. Besser and his team are Amazing I just really want to thank the front desk ladies for getting me in The Same Day… for this eye emergency I was having!

Office staff are completely incompetent. This is not a review for any Drs, and THEY WOULDN’T SEE ME, but you think they would hire better poeple
I had an emergency appointment for my 3 year old. I called, gave a full explanation, and they said great, come in. They gave me a 9:15am time, but never booked the appointment. Didn’t get my name or any details. I showed up on time, they looked at me sideways. Had to go ask the doctor if they could see my 3 year old, and then said NO. We can’t see you, that isn’t what we do.
BUT THEY BOOKED MY APPOINTMENT! I WAS VERY CLEAR UP FRONT WHAT THE ISSUE WAS AND THAT IT WAS FOR MY 3 YEAR OLD.
So we had to rush out of the house, get breakfast in the car, deal with the crazy parking structure, then to walk in, be treated like and idiot. Received no sort of apology or sympathy, and then to add insult to injury, I still had to pay for the parking.
If i could give zero starts I would.

I have learned so much about the eyes after having my eyes get so f up within the past few months, from what type of eye specialists existed to preventing my vision from worsening. As I get older my body is starting to shut down on me. I used to feel invincible ha but not anymore. Time to take care of myself and stop being lazy. Meh.
Without health insurance, my visit would’ve cost me about $ 190 bucks. WTF! So glad I had insurance with a co-​pay or else I would’ve driven myself to the OC to find a cheaper doctor. There’s free parking over there too. Here, they charged $ 8. Had I come earlier, I would’ve found cheaper parking. My appointment was at 830am and the traffic was a disaster. I needed to go in and out quick so I could head to work.
So I got to the office, filled out all the paperwork for new patients and then I was seen. They said my visit would estimate to be 2 hrs. It was way longer than that because of the potential stuff the doctor found in my eye after getting my eyes dilated (for the first time). My vision had gotten a lot worse. Dr. Besser explain everything going on with my eyes. He’s very knowledgeable… and he speaks Spanish fluently. He referred me to a retina specialist. I was told to test my blood glucose, etc. I was pretty bummed out. After I talked to the doc, I did a lot of researching and asked all my health professional friends many questions. I learned so much during this visit and afterwards. The best thing I got out of this visit was I qualified for lasik in the future once my vision stabilized. And the worse thing was the anxiety I endured until I saw the specialist.
Overall, this visit was an education one and a wake up call. Note to the wise: don’t sleep in your contacts whether it be a day or a few days to nearly a week. I used to be able to do that. Your eyes will eventually become sensitive to them and eventually reach the point where you can barely wear them in that long. My eyes have reached that point where they turn super red and dry. It makes me miserable. My friends poke fun of me when I wear glasses to the club and other events lol. I don’t mind but it does suck sometime. Now I’m waiting for my time to get lasik. In the mean time, I’ll be in nerd mode on the daily.

My God, he took a phone call during my time, comes back and forgets everything I have said to him. What a turn off. Writes a thoughtless prescription. He WILL NOT come to the phone when called upon. He will NOT explain anything.
His asst. Keith loses concentration while going back and forth to the Dr. and me. I have never had such freakin frustrating dealings with an Ophthalmologist. Whether he is competent or not– I don’t want to find out. Just dealing with his office & prescription handling turned me off. I need another doctor.

I needed to see an Ophthalmologist quickly this week, and found Dr. Besser here on Unilocal.I called their office first thing in the am, and was sitting in the doctor chair about 1.5 hours later. They made arrangements to fit me in, knowing the urgency.
I had a great experience all around, and am impressed with the professional service I received. Noted was Maria at the front desk, the efficient and friendly «pre-​doc» guy (I can’t remember his name, but he was quick and friendly), and then Dr. Besser. The Doc patiently listened to all my theories, and then took care of my problem. Within less than 24 hours my problem had almost completely cleared up. I’m feeling great now, and have my new eye doc to thank, Dr. Besser. This is a pro office all around, I highly recommend.

Went to Dr. Besser to get rid of my chalazion, quick. Dr. Besser is so honest, kind, and knowledgeable. Unforch, he couldn’t get rid of it same day due to how insurance works. But, he kept it real and I appreciated that. He is no-​nonsense and definitely has a cool vibe. The office staff is professional and respectful. The office uses state of the art equipment which made it loads better than anything that I’ve experienced in the past. I think I’m going to make Dr. Besser my regular eye guy.

When I was 32 I got a scary diagnosis from Dr. Besser. He told me I have glaucoma and that it wasn’t a matter of IF but WHEN I will go blind if I didn’t get an iridotomy. The reason is because the type of glaucoma I have would have eventually caused me to have an angle closure attack. While he was very nice, I wanted a second opinion. In the next few weeks I saw another doctor who said the same thing but I started getting scared and didn’t want to get the surgery because of horror stories I read online. Dr. Besser actually called me in those few weeks and he told me that he didn’t care if I got the surgery from him or someone else but that he was going to keep calling me to make sure I got it somewhere because I was too young to go blind. It was then that I realized he truly cared about me and my outcome. I booked the iridotomy with him. Now it did hurt, I am not gonna lie. But I wouldn’t have wanted it done by anyone else. He was patient and made me laugh and more importantly the procedure was a success. My pressures dropped and I haven’t had any of the weird side effects I read about online. Best of all, with the type of Glaucoma I have, I have to come in every 3 months to check my pressures for the rest of my life and I am so glad that I chose him to manage my lifelong care. When I go into the office, I look forward to seeing him, catching up with him, finding out how his kids are, etc. One time I called him freaked out becuase I thought the eye drops were making me sick and he called me from his home to reassure me. Bottom line, the guy is amazing and I am blessed to have him as my doctor. On top of all of that, the office is super nice, clean, and I am always in and out quickly. I LOVE the staff too and I look forward to seeing my girls everytime I go in. You will not regret trusting Dr. Besser with your eyes. Promise!

I was very pleased with Dr Besser’s demeanor and attention to my concerns. In addition, the office staff were some of the better I’ve encountered over the years. Highly recommended.

Dr. Besser knows his stuff, and is very willing to explain the details of your situation. He’s also got the best chairside manner I’ve ever encountered. The wait can be a little long, but he’s worth it.

I highly recommend Dr. Besser. Dr. Besser’s intelligence, knowledge, and expertise are just what you want in a doctor. But it’s the way we discussed my eye issues — his demeanor — that set him apart and made my first appointment with him thorough, professional, effective and quite enjoyable.

You know those doctors that are obviously very knowledgable and informative? He’s one of them. Very nice too. Highly recommend :)

Great doc. Professional, compassionate, and no-​nonsense. He’s performed two separate surgeries on me (chalazion removals) and both went as well as can be.
