This place is a little hole-in-the-wall, with funky decorations, and a plant whose vines are strung all over the restaurant, but the food and the service was great. I had the mole negro enchiladas and my wife had the camarones de mojo de ajo and both were excellent!

So, I’ve been dreaming of their burritos on the daily. The restaurant also feels like you’re in someone’s living room which is fun. I only take off one star because it is so hard to see from the street and I always get annoyed trying to find it while simultaneously not getting into an accident. Let Siri be your guide and go get yourself a giant, wet, gooey, delicioso burrito!

I’ve been here twice. I like the food, but it’s not the best Oaxaquan food I’ve ever had. I tend to go there for dinner on slow days, so the food doesn’t always taste fresh. I’m sure there are days when the food is spectacular, but after 2 visits I can only call it A-okay.

Amazing breakfast omlette with rice, beans and tortillas. Tasty and filling for under $ 9. Rustic/homey interior with vines across the ceiling. A little gem. Thanks Unilocalers!

This place is hard to find, but a good landmark would be the green awning with the faded Whole Foods Market logo out front.(Lol.) The moles here are THE best I have ever tasted. One of them(the reddish one) is spicIER, but not crazy spicy. The dark black one is rich and sweet. I got the cheese enchiladas with half spicy and half sweet mole. I was not disappointed. Totally can’t wait to go back. Note, this is a gritty hole in the wall spot — not a place to take friends and enjoy several courses of drinks/apps amidst the soft light of Edison bulbs. But damn good food!

Picked up parents at LAX for a brief layover lunch. We headed over to El Jacalito Oaxaqueño on the way to Santa Monica for some picture taking. This small hole in the wall was a great find, and lucky for us outsiders, seemed safe enough when other Asians were inside dining. The chips and salsa were fresh with packed heat. Delicious considering my parents aren’t huge fans of spicy food! I opted for the Enchiladas Verdes, pollo or chicken. This plate came with four enchiladas, so I shared with my parents. It was an interesting California-like twist with the avocado, but I’m not sure if that is popular also down in Mexico. I found out Oaxaca is a region in Mexico, so a lot of store signs make sense to me now! It was a really great find that had plenty of street parking. The service was really great and we had no issues conversing with them. It really had the authentic feel, and it was a nice to eat Mexican food that wasn’t just street tacos or burritos(although they have those too)! Great find!

Authentico to the maximum. Unilocal is lame, but forget people who will complain about service or atmosphere in a place setup by first generation immigrants(I’m assuming). Why is that relevant –It’s the small stuff about this food that separate it from your average taqueria — the rice has a faint floral essence. The horcahata something like that too. The salsa is smokey on top of the kick. The mole has texture it’s not just thick soup on my plate. Everything ive had has been good and, if you aren’t Latin, everyone in the place looks at you funny when you walk in — a good sign in my book.

I don’t know why this place doesn’t have 5 stars! The tacos, incredible. The burrito, amazing. Everything is so full of flavor. I can’t believe I’ve lived here my whole life and I’m just now finding this place. My new favorite Mexican/Oaxacan food spot on the Westside.

This place is pretty dank! I was starving as usual after one dem funday sunday rundays. I had to to with that jocalito burriito cause the photo looked like the real dankness. OOOOOo it was definitely solid. I’d have to say Upper mid Tier Dankness with potential of emerging onto the top level. I’ll have to come back for round 2 but hey they don’t say 2nd times a charm for no reason. I’m not a hit it and quit it type of guy either. If you come here you’ve got to go with that chips and guac. I mean whoa. why wouldn’t you?!? I don’t know. don’t ask me. i never don’t get guac. Do you like bottled coke? I sure do. Do they have it? They sure do. Did I think before i Drink? I sure didn’t. Why you might ask? Why not? Did I just answer your questions with a question? I don’t know. did I? Now I’mma have to go with 4 stars because The tortilla wasn’t toptilla status but it still filled me up to more than just a liking if you know what I mean. I would recommend trying it out. It has a nice feel which is pretty cheel. Jocalito bonito is what some would say.

Remember how your Abuela used to tell you that the hole in the wall has the best food? Yup, she was talking about this place. We ended up ordering just one Mojado Burrito Especial with Carne Asada for us to share, which was perfect since the burrito is pretty large. The burrito was very good and the carne asada inside was on point! The chips and salsa were also very good, salsa was extra spicy just how I like it. We left paying only $ 8+tip for the burrito, no drinks, just water and satisfied! Definitely coming back here for more!

Our first time trying Oaxacan food and we love it! The Food: I got the Mole Negro, which is a dark sweeter mole with chicken and a side of rice and tortilla. It taste like a cocoa version of barbecue sauce with a kick. I usually don’t like my entrée too sweet, but this was perfect, not too sweet and not too spicy. My husband got the Carne Asada Plate that came with refried beans, rice, and tortilla. He also gives it a 4⁄5 stars. He liked the whole plate and he’s a pretty picky eater. Everything comes with tortilla chips and salsa as well. Overall we would recommend this place and will be coming back. The Service: The girl that took our order was very helpful with our order. She gave us her feedback on the different menu items. We got our order togo and the food came out pretty quickly.

The Nachos Classicos, Chile Verde Burrito, Burrito Especial with Chicken, Ensalada de Nopales and Enchiladas Verdes were all EXTREMELYGOOD!!! In addition, the chips are thicker and tastier than most Mexican restaurants’ chips, and the salsa has a nice spice. They have a big screen TV on which they play soccer games and telenovelas. Highly recommended!!!

My husband and I were in the neighborhood from the OC and hankering some mexican food. Appetizer was nachos, I got the Burrito Especial and he got chicken sauteed with tomatos and poblanos served with white rice and beans(sorry i have forgotten the name). I thought everything was very tasty. My burrito was huge and feed me for 2 days. I thought the carnitas made the whole thing a little on the salty side for my pallet but I am very sensitive to salt. My husband thought his dish was good but felt like it was something he could make at home. The chips are what made the nachos worth it. Everything was pretty average about it.

The BEST chorizo tacos we’ve ever tried – and we’ve tried a LOT between NYC and LA. We get them without the lettuce – it delish. Even better, if you’re in a cheesy mood – get the quesadilla and ask for chorizo in it. So ridiculously good. Yes it’s greasy, but it’s all the flavorful oil from the just-crispy-enough-chorizo. It’s a very generous size as well. The amount of chorizo they put in each taco is easily enough to make two tacos. The other items are delicious as well. The wet burrito with barbacoa I’ve had, was huge and really delectable. No way can it be consumed in one sitting by just one regular-sized-appetite person. There’s a cheese dish(queso fundito?) that’s really good but has to be eaten at the place, not take-home order because the cheese loses its soft, melted texture. It’s a tiny, not-at-all fancy place, but I place an order at least once a week because their food is fresh, and delicious. There’s a person named Rosie there, who usually takes orders(& might be the only one that speaks English perfectly well), and she is so friendly and nice. No matter HOW busy they are, she never rushes through your order or rushes to get to the next customer. She’s friendly, efficient, and very helpful in suggesting menu items depending on your mood and tastes. The only drawback is that they get SO busy, that sometimes you have to call 5x in a row in order to get through and not get the voicemail. Incredibly annoying but the chorizo tacos are so good, that I actually try my best to get past that nuisance.

I want to tuck this place away and have it all to myself, but that just wouldn’t be fair. I am always on the lookout for a crunchy shredded beef taco and they nailed it! The carne asada soft taco may have been better yet, they use a little bit of beans in the corn tortilla. Also had a bite of my boyfriend’s Al Pastor burrito and it was so delicious. It is one block from my house and beats out all the restaurants in the area. Don’t forget their salsa! Que rico!

Nothing was open on thxgiving friday morning. Luckily we found this place. Super authentic. We got the chorizo scrambled egg and enchiladas. The scramble was so good and oily. The rice on the side was pretty oily and tasty too. The enchiladas was alright; maybe cuz i am actually not a huge fan of enchiladas. They gave home-made salsa and chips. We followed the reviews and got the papaya drink. Very very refreshing and has pulp in it. Highly highly recommend.

Randomly stumbled across this place with my friend. We were craving burritos! The place is pretty small with a bout 10 tables inside. The décor is very Mexican with photo art hanging on the walls of the place. They have a variety of items on the menu, but of course I went straight to the burrito section. We ended up ordering just one Mojado Burrito Especial with Carne Asada for us to share, which was perfect since the burrito is pretty large. The burrito was very good and the carne asada inside was on point! The menu said it included avocado, but once I finished the burrito I realized that it didn’t have any! I guess it was too late at that point to ask for the avocado. The chips and salsa were also very good, salsa was extra spicy just how I like it. We left paying only $ 8+tip for the burrito, no drinks, just water and satisfied! El Jacalito is a good random place to eat Mexican food at very good prices. Nothing fancy, just delicious food(well at least the burrito and the salsa was yummy).
