All I can say about this place is great things! After driving my poor 2007 Dodge Caliber from Oklahoma City to LA, my car truly needed some TLC. The guys at Excel not only took care of the oil change I came in for, but also double checked several areas of my car that needed to be attended to after such a long drive. All of the workers were polite and professional. My car was ready exactly when they promised. If you need great work done at an excellent price, check these guys out.

Long story — short.. I moved to west side about a year ago. Left my mechanic 30 miles away and needed to find a new guy closer to my house. Bought a used car and needed to fix some things. I checked some body shops in Culver city area on Unilocal,gave them a call, but didn’t like the customer service and they couldn’t take me the same day.
When i reached out to Excel Motors, a very nice guy spoke to me and told me that i can come over now and he will check my car issues and will give me the estimate. I needed to repair my ac and my breaks as well. And oil change.
First of all i am a girl, and i don’t know anything 0 about cars. But I am very intuitive person and trust my intuition a lot. With Ricky and his shop i felt trust right away. And this trust was proved over time as well. He was very fast and professional. And i got a great deal too!!!
I found the best mechanic shop in Culver city. If u are looking for dependable and honest mechanic, don’t look further. Just give a call and talk to Ricky and they will take care of you!!! Blessings GUYS!!!

I went there because my car broke down close to their location and that is where the tow truck driver took me. I was told that my car wouldn’t start because my key fob was broken. They told me they searched around and found the best price to get the key made and activated. That price was $ 450! I called the dealer I bought my car from and they said it would be only $ 50 and to bring it to them because Excel was marking it up by $ 400! Needless to say I had my car towed to the dealer. When the tow truck driver got to their location the guy that does the auto body repair didn’t want to move the cars he was working on that were blocking the driveway to let the tow guy get my car. He made the tow driver wait about 30 minutes and the driver almost left without my car because of that. Don’t waste your money or your time here!

The guys at Excel, led by manager Steven, really know what’s up. You’ll never pay more than what is fair for the work they’re putting in. Your car is in the best of hands when you bring it into Excel for anything from an oil change to an oil pan and harmonic disc replacement, and beyond, I’m sure.
From day one and my interaction with Gerson (who I believe is Steven’s cousin; this is a family-​owned and operated establishment) I realized that they will break down my car’s diagnosis for me with a proactive set of eyes. Upon that oil change a month or so ago, I was told that there were approximately 4 tune ups that they highly recommended for the greatest performance of my Civic. Gerson laid each of these out in order of most importance/​timeliness or «dead”-lines for their repair. That really helped me gauge my spending and my overall budget with my own expenditure planning.
Currently waiting on some work from Excel in a nearby park (great places all within walking distance to hang out while you wait for labor to be fulfilled), and I definitely see myself coming back for a few more soup-​ups that I have planned for my car.

Ricky and his crew have been AMAZING in a treacherous journey to get a car from auction running well and passing smog. I couldn’t have done it without them! I came in from across at Cal’s (who is also amazing but wasn’t open as late as Excel) needing to get two O2 sensors (out of 4) replaced… Ricky agreed, but also included a vacuum scan /​test, which revealed a teensy, hard to see hose that was worn, with a leak, that would have also caused smog failure. He didn’t try to roll in any BS charges in the next few months, even though I was in every few hundred miles to get a new engine code scan (at no charge!) until I was able to go next door to A&M Smog, whom I also HIGHLY recommend. With both places, paying with cash and being friendly and humane really do seem appreciated, and they both will work with you on costs, matching quotes from elsewhere. AAAA+++++

I 100% recommend Excel Motors. I have a 2009 Audi A4 Quattro and wouldn’t trust anyone else with my car. Ricky, the owner, is so nice, trustworthy and helpful. He will take photos of the work he does so I can understand what the problem is and how he fixed it He knows I am a woman and wary of auto repair shops and goes above and beyond to make me feel at ease. They go out of the way to provide loaner cars and Ricky has even himself, driven me to work and picked me up to take me back to the shop! I work 30 minutes away.
I feel lucky to have found this shop and will be taking my car there for all fixes.

Topline summary: I love this place. I’ve finally found my mechanic!

3. Their prices are unbelievably reasonable. Like, really unbelievable.
4. They only recommend services when there are services to recommend. I’ve had their recommendations verified by a 3^rd party. They are accurate and don’t try to sell you something you don’t need (this is great with my being a woman!)
5. They have loaner cars available so you don’t have to spend money on a rental.
6. They wash my car.

Now that I live in Berkeley I still drive all the way down to L. A to have Ricky taking good care of my car! I know it sounds crazy but when it comes to my car I want to make sure that it is being taken good care of and on top of doing a great job, Ricky is a very pleasant person who also will explain you and show you why this is happening to your car and offers various solutions at a very good price. Also as a woman you won’t feel uncomfortable unlike some other mechanics because this guys are friendly and very respectful.
You won’t just get great service, you will also get treated right. I strongly recommend it.
Being able to trust your mechanic keeps you safe on the road and give you peace of mind. This place is AWESOME!

Finding a trust worthy mechanic is almost as tough as winning the Lotto. Ok, not as bad but it seems like it.
I’ve dealt with Tom for over 20 years when he was at Grand Prix Auto with Erine.
Tom went his own way and started Excel, they were in Inglewood for a while, a major pain in the ass to get over there but they would pick up and deliver.
But not any more, now they are in Culver City.
If you’re looking for a mechanic, Excel is great.
If you’re looking to restore an old car, they are great too.
Tom recently retired but the head mechanic Ricky has taken over and still the same great place.
Their driveway is always full of classic cars in various stages of restoration. I wonder if they would be interested in just a simple or minor repair but it doesn’t matter the size of the repair, big or small, they do it with care and respect.

I was just there today to get my car fixed and i felt that they did an excellent job! They have a great service for people having trouble with their cars. The people there are very friendly and great mechanics! Whats even better is that they get to work on the cars quickly. They fixed my car in no time! Great job! I strongly suggest anyone having car problems to have their cars fixed at this place. You wont just get great service but you will also get treated right. I strongly recommend it!

I first met Tom in 2000 when his shop was the official service provider for a car I bought at Miller Toyota. He was friendly, passionate about cars and my wife really appreciated that he treated her with equal respect (particularly important as she actually knew more about fixing cars than I did). Tom was always there for us, so as I bought new cars (over 5 since then) he has remained my service provider for over 13 years. I met Ricky when the shop moved to Inglewood, and have found him to be equally competent and committed to great customer service. I have followed them back to West LA, and will go wherever they go because I know that they will keep my car (which is actually my office on wheels) in tip top shape. Their prices are fair, they tell you honestly what needs to be fixed immediately and what can wait until my next visit, and they always have my car ready when promised. You can’t go wrong with Tom & Ricky.

There’s no way I would take my car to anyone else. I’ve been going to Tom for over 10 years and he is the most honest, accommodating guy you’ll ever meet. There have been numerous times where he’s bent over backwards to squeeze me in in an emergency, and he’s always quick to assure me that I don’t need to worry about my brake shoes being replaced just yet, etc. He’ll tell me what needs fixing now and what has some time left on it. So of course I always bring my car back to him! So do a few of my friends and even an ex boyfriend, ha! He’s 100% worth the drive from anywhere in LA.

I have found my permanent mechanics!
The night before my first day of work my car decided to not start! I had no idea what could be wrong with it which scared me so I called a tow truck to take it to a mechanic.
I of course went on
and had decided to take it to another shop called Eds. After talking to him he told me how overbooked he was and that he probably wouldn’t have time to even look at my car for a couple days and that it might take a whole week to fix my car. Now, I def. appreciated his honesty but after hearing that I didn’t know what to do!
My tow truck driver suggested Excel Auto Motors.
He told me it was not a far drive from where I was (Culver City) and that they were good mechanics who surely could fix my car in no time. I decided to trust him and went to the shop (at almost around midnight mind you). To my surprise Ricky made himself available to let me bring my car in so late and told me it would probably be done by the next day!
As they promised it was ready to get picked up the next afternoon. It turns out my fuel pump was bad and the job ending up costing me less than what they originally estimated for! That was a pleasant surprise! That made me really trust these guys. They offered to pick me up from wherever I was and stayed open past when most shops close to wait for me after I got off of work.
I met Tom who also owns the shop and he was so nice and explained and SHOWED me what was wrong with my car. Even answered all of my random questions about maintenance down to my squeaky brakes.
He also re-​checked my brakes after hearing my concerns just to make sure he wasn’t sending me out with a hidden problem. Thankfully I still had about 50% left in them and he sent me on my way.
I will surely be coming back for all of my mechanical needs! Very accommodating trustworthy mechanics!
