Fox Hills Animal Hospital

We’ve taken three dogs to this facility over the years. One was a dog that was visiting from out of town and stepped on a sharp stick. Another was found on the street with no I.D. and needed to be checked out and scanned for a chip. The third was a newly adopted puppy from a rescue organization. Although we weren’t regular customers until just recently, we were treated very well and more importantly the dogs received excellent care. We’re very happy with the services provided by this facility.

Sugarplum story:
A catering client of mine asked me in April 2016 if I could feed her 3 feral cats for 2 weeks. She told me that one has a growth on the outside of her mouth and intermittently bleeding. Not thinking too much about it, I agreed. I went there twice a day and every time I watched that little kitty her growth dripped blood. I had to wipe off blood from her food bowl and floor every day. She still ate and came very close to me but never close enough that I could catch her
I tried to find a vet who would help me. The LA Pet Clinic Hollywood receptionist told me she did not have an appointment and there are no openings until the end of the week. I explained to her the kitty could be dead by then, her answer: I cannot do anything about that, find another vet. Dr. John’s from John’s Animal Clinic in Santa Monica told me and his receptionist after she tried to explain to him what was going on: Why are you bothering me?
My neighbors recommended to me to go to Fox Hills Animal Clinic in Culver City. Dr. Wefki Girgis looked at the video I made of the kitty and said that looks bad, it has to be surgically removed. He explained to me how I should try to catch the kitty using a towel etc. I went back followed his instructions and 2 hours later I was back at the clinic with my now ½ feral cat. Dr. Girgis did the operation, kitty who’s name now is Sugarplum stayed at the hospital for 10 days. The whole staff was cheering for her every day. May 16^th after a 10 day hospital stay she went back to her sisters.
If you are looking for an animal Clinic that cares, I cannot recommend Dr. Wefki Girgis more.

Dr. G is a wonderful, kind Vet, he has helped me on numerous occasions with my cats. I came in today with a cat that had an infection in her mouth. The doctor could tell how upset I was, he was so nice and even fed the cat by hand. He is great and I will always bring my cats to him!!! Thanks Dr. G.

I took my chihuahua in for skin allergies and hot spots. The Dr. Girgis thought it was necessary to shave the hot spots scabs and all. This caused the scabs to open and bleed my poor dog was un pain and crying. Hes been to the vet before for the same thing and has never been shaved like that. Needless to say we were both mortified. I also thought we were be sent home with antibiotics, nope. He got 2 injections and thats it. I asked and he said he didnt need any the injection would be enough. Total bill for hurting my dog and no home meds $ 190. Ughh and thats a discount… if u love ur pets save them the pain and take them somewhere else

I brought my Dachshund in for a diagnosis, my dog was in agonizing pain. To make matters worst my finances were in agony also, I explained my financial dilemma, Dr. Grigis was so humane and helpful and provided the absolute needed care to fit my budget to allow my dog to make a recovery. What else is amazing is that I had never seen this doctor before, I was going on a recommendation of a friend. No bells and whistles just good veterinary care as a result my dog is on his way to recovery within 24 hours of seeing Dr. Grigris. I have had some experience with Dachshund’s having difficulty with their spines, the treatment can be quite costly running into thousands of dollars, I was very impressed that Dr. Grigis understanding of the finances and yet understood this animal needed help, he did not turn us away and provided the absolute necessary care to help my dog.

I see i ruffled a few feathers with my previous review which was conveniently removed. I’m here to let it be known that to doctor practicing here? The absolute worst. The exact same can be said for his staff. The older red head woman working the front in particular. I brought my injured dog here a Few years back. He was misdiagnosed as having nerve damage. The doctor and his assistant (?), a younger guy with glasses, offered no help or advice whatsoever. I came to them for help, and they let me down in a huge way. I went elsewhere and Fortunately, my dog is fine. However, I absolutely loathe and detest this place and its entire staff with a passion. If you want your pet to be mistreated or die, then bring them here!

I’ve brought my cat here a few times over the last few years; done a couple surgeries when my cat injured himself (mainly stitches and draining infected flesh), also the usual cat stuff like electronic ID chip and shots. The doctor and staff were always respectful and professional. I’ll be back next time my cat gets in trouble.

We went to Dr. Girgis this morning september 17,2014 because our puppy Yuki, terrier mix is not feeling good. With the help of Dr. Girgis our puppy his feeling great now. Dr. Girgis did a good job taking care of our yuki… thank you dr.girgis.

Dr. G is very caring and shows it everytime he sees my dog Allie. He has always taken care of her since she was a pup. I have never had to go back for the same issue. He diagnosis right on and takes care of it. Could get a little pricey sometimes but i dont remember ever paying more than 300 for the visit and the meds. it sure is alot more inexpensive than other westside doctors from what my friends tell me.
Customer service is great too. lady at the front is always very nice.

I have been taking my Pomeranian here since he was born. He is 10 yrs old and still coming to Dr. G he is very nice and attends your pet like it’s his own. He takes the time to find a solution and help your pet. He calls you to see how your pet is doing. He is very affordable and has a great staff. I truly will continue to take my Pomeranian to him forever. Thanks Dr. G. Brownie also thanks you for always being there and taking great care of him.

What a great little office! I recently rescued a dog (Garry) from the South LA Animal Shelter. A friend in Florida saw him on their website and wanted him, so and I offered to get him to a vet to get him checked out so he can fly to his forever home in Florida. I picked him up from the shelter, looked on Unilocal for a vet who was close to the airport, and found Fox Hills Animal Hospital. Right when I walked in, the receptionist Aysha was sooo sweet and helpful. It just got better from there. Dr. G examined him, and since I was going out of town, I had to have him boarded there for a week. The whole staff was super friendly. Poor little dog had kennel cough, but they took care of that, and he was better by the next day.
Ed and Andrew spoiled little Garry while he was there, and showered him with attention. I’m very grateful to them, as they put my mind at ease while I was away out of town. Picked up Garry a week later, put him on a flight, and he’s now doing awesome in Florida. Thank you, Dr. G and your amazing staff! :) When I get a dog of my own, I will be back!

I just brought Willy in last week to get his vaccinations done. I was spending the night in Orange Country with some friends so I just dropped him off for the night and he was ready to go by 3 pm the next day. He has never liked going to the vet for any reason so I’m sure getting his shots are his least favorite trips but when I picked him up they had nothing but great things to say about him. It was his first visit here and he seems to have behaved much better than usual which I believe is a testament to the quality of service here.

Our large Golden Retriever died tonight. Yesterday He was examined by the Fox Hills Animal hospital, Dr. Girgis said he examined Duke and said he would be fine after he had his wound cleaned and had antibiotics. This was the worst exam ever. It was just a surface sarcastic exam that the doctor blamed an ear infection on us. The Doctor used insults to make us feel like we did something wrong. Duke almost couldn’t walk from an injury he had two days ago and started showing signs that something was wrong. This Rip Off Clinic plays on your emotions and doesn’t do a good or thorough exam. Duke probably had internal injuries from a gate he broke through to mate our sons visiting female. Dr. Girgis charged me $ 683. for an exam and cleaning a wound plus a weeks worth of medication. He screamed at my wife as though we don’t know how to take care of our loved animals. We have a breeders license and have had over 50 AKC puppies from Duke. It’s the mal practice and incompetence that angers me. I feel that if the Doctor did a good exam and an X ray he would have found out what caused Duke to go so downhill in one day. I should sue the Doctor for Mal practice… But, this review should allow the truth to be known.

I’ve been taking both of my dogs to this vet for the past 7years and this is the far best vet clinic I’ve been to. It’s 30 – 45 mins drive from my house but Dr. Grigis always makes time for my dogs. My oldest dog did many surgeries here-​done by Dr. Grigis which the outcomes are always nice. It’s been almost 2 years since my oldest dog got skin cancer surgery done here and its been perfect. Cancer never came back. *knock on wood*
Dr. Grigis has a strong accent but he is honest, friendly, and he loves my dogs. My dogs are aggressive and can be vicious at times and Dr. Grigis takes his time to show my dogs how much he loves them.
I call him constantly to ask questions and Dr. Grigis always answered my questions politely. The girls working at the front are super friendly and when Dr. Grigis is not available, they will take my number down and call me back. They are so good about returning phone calls.
I’m so glad that Dr. Grigis is available for my dogs. Thank you Dr. Grigis for the love and support.

This review is for a visit from several years ago, it not the most up-​to-​date review, at least use it as a warning or reason for second opinions.
My dog B limped to her bed one day and when I looked at her paw one claw — the nail part — had almost completely ripped off and the nail was standing up like an letter «I» over a little pink nubby piece of flesh. I flipped out because I had never seen that before. It was nighttime, and the only place I could find that was open was Fox Hills Animal Hospital.
I took her in and they said her nailbed and nail needed to be amputated (imagine cutting off the human fingertip just at the nail I guess would be equivalent?) and they could do it the next day. I asked if I could board her there and they took her in.
When my mom came home, we went back to the vet and we checked on B, I should have known then to take her home but there was nowhere else to go. She was in a cage — big size and clean — but with NO bedding at all, no food or water (perhaps in anticipation of surgery, so I will excuse that) and worst of all NO COVERING ON HER PAW!!!
After $ 500+ and a 2+ stay at the vet, it turns out all they did was cut the hard nail part off (imagine ripping an acrylic nail and having to trim the bits off) and bandage her paw to protect the nub of the nailbed and a few weeks later THE NAIL GREW BACK!!! IT WOULD HAVE GROWN BACK ANYWAY!!!
Until the bandages were removed we thought they had amputated her claw, that’s what they told us and charged us for. I basically cancelled a trip to England because of this «surgery» and the cost.
Granted, return visits were free, we had two to change the bandages and after we saw how well it was growing we never went back.
They still call once a year to see how she is doing, which is nice but, no, we are not going back for even routine care, and will pay extra fees to go to an emergency vet if a true emergency comes up.
Turns out torn claws happen all the time. In the case of the pink nubby ripping off you *do* need emergency care to stop the bleeding, but for the nail part coming off with no blood like with us, the trimming and wound care is all that’s needed.
The staff was nice, the place was a bit worn, but the actual communication of the situation and billing was simply AWFUL. I did freak out at the time, but we can honestly say nothing that was told to us was true or justified the cost we paid. A whole day elapsed between dropping B off and coming in to sign the surgery paperwork so we were clear-​headed at the time we approved services. *NO* surgery was done on our dog and nor would it have been necessary.
My advice is that for ANY surgery to pay for a second opinion. Based on research, it could have been done cheaper and without a 2-​day stay at all.

My crazy cockapoo likes to run full speed through the house, darting under our metal & glass coffee table before making a hairpin turn and heading towards the kitchen. I’m not sure if he was off his game because of the Jeremy Lin injury, but last night he didn’t quite make it: I heard the sickening sound of cockapoo hitting metal, and the next thing I knew he had a bleeding gash in his head. At this point, I basically became Dustin Hoffman running with my kid through traffic in Manhattan, and I when I arrived at Fox Hills Animal Hospital, I was the one who needed sedation.
Luckily, Palmer is pretty tough for a cockapoo (must be all the muay thai training), and he made it through his two-​stitch ordeal in better shape than his daddy. The receptionist was very friendly and probably would have given me tranquilizers if I had asked nicely. Dr. G was very attentive, and the whole ordeal was over in a short time.
Having said that, while I cannot fault the friendliness or positive attitude, I prefer the environment, communication, expertise & handling of my primary veterinarian.

If I could give this animal hospital negative stars I would. Went in on a Saturday because my regular vet was closed. My dog was crying in pain at home and shaking. We did not know what was wrong with him so we rushed him to Fox Hills.
Dr. G and his assistant saw us for about 3 minutes. Said that «small dogs sometimes get slipped disks. «I told him that I didn’t feel like this was a physical injury. But they kept insisting it was something to do with his spine. After taking his temperature and feeling he body he said nothing was wrong with him.
I had a weird feeling in the office, the place is a dump and I would not be surprised if this doctor had never been licensed or went to school for veterinary medicine.
They also ask for your SS# and drivers license on their patient forms. Very odd, and I did not give mine out.
So, after 3 minutes of examining my dog and a $ 45 office visit he said there was nothing wrong. Needless to say we will probably end up taking the dog to City of Angels for emergency care in a bit since my dog is STILL IN PAIN.
Scammers and totally schlocky vet. In fact, I would not even give them the courtesy of calling them a real VET office.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!

*At first, everything was cool.
*The assistant was excellent.
*The doctor shows up… and it got kind of scary. 15 second analysis… and my cat is dehydrated. Didn’t really look at her.
*Accent was thick — making understanding difficult.
*Recommended a ton of tests — multiple antibiotics. Who knows if they were necessary?
* «You can take her home, if you don’t want to do them. That’s the minimum.» — was his advise as I pondered over the $ 400 plus bill.
*If the tests come out clear… most likely a tumor or cancer.” — was what he said would be the outcome if nothing was found. Yet, when I spoke to him on Monday (I had to call — he didn’t call me) he changed his story. He said, «In a week, she’ll be fine.»
Results were confusing… said one thing on Friday and another on Monday.
*Did I just get swindled?
*My cat is fine, right now. But, seriously, there was no emotional consideration — making my visit feel more like a trip to the bank, than a trip to the vet.
I will not be back.

Atrocious.
Worst vet experience ever and I’ve had pets all my life. IMO this place should be placed under serious review by the vets associaion or whatever the governing body is.
Fox Hills Animal Hospital Dr. Girgis. He misdiagnosed one of our cats and said it tested positive for FIP (a terminal illness).
He said, and quote: «Your cat test positive for FIP. Do you know FIP?»
Me: «What is that?»
Dr. Girgis: «Just go on the internet and look it up.»
Mind you this is after we spent over $ 1000 on BS antibiotics at his place over the course of 2 yrs (see below).
After hearing our cat is dying, several nights of tears and my wife doing research and seeing what can be done about the FIP and making the cat comfortable in his «final months», we took the blood test work to a different vet.
It turns out that Dr. Girgis MISREAD the blood test results. I didn’t take the time to read it either because figured you need some med background to read the results but it CLEARLY said right on the paperwork «results: negative».
Absolutely unacceptable. Mistakes happen but the guy didn’t even bother to give us a follow-​up call.
This was in addition to about two years; we were bringing our cat to his place for an occasional swollen lip from acne. We found out later that it’s nothing serious and goes away by itself. Well every time we went to FHAH, he would administer antibiotics which totaled about $ 150 a visit including the exam.
I do NOT recommend this vet.
We are now taking our cats exclusively to the Cat Practice in MDR. The place is cleaner and far more professional, speak English fluently, and less expensive.
Disclaimer: I have all of the paperwork proof, including the blood test results, supporting my statements in the review.

I took my dog for a simple vaccination shot a few years ago. This female who seemed to be a new doctor or an intern or a vet who acted as an intern did a shot and my dog screamed. Well, that happens.
The next day, my dog’s whole area around where he received a shot was swollen and he was screaming in pain. But I was too scared to bring him back to this place. So, l took him to another animal hospital my friend recommended. I told the new vet about the incident, and the vet and nurses looked at each other like I should have known better than to take my dog to that hospital.
My dog has never had any problem before and after the visit to this vet. I never went back to this place, because I love my dog too much. If a simple shot cannot be done without a problem like this, what happens if he needed something more serious… horrifying…
