Bulucea Sophia, DMD – Cupertino Ortho Care

I was a long time patient of Dr. Befu and Dr. Yamamoto who were the practitioners at this location before the current team took over. I’ll admit I wasn’t the best at keeping up with my orthodontic maintenance over the years, and the couple of times that I saw Dr. Bulucea she was able to take care of my problems. However, my review is mainly based on my last transaction with the practice, which will likely be my last.
My regular wire retainers that I wore for years finally broke and I went to Cupertino Ortho Care to have a new set made. They took impressions and made a set for me pretty promptly, however they didn’t fit right. The doctor insisted that, per her exam, they did but I could just tell something was off. However, I was on a time crunch as I was moving out of state for work a couple of days after my appointment. She told me to try them out and if they didn’t work to come back in and she would make me a set of clear plastic retainers and that she would also reimburse me the difference in cost (they were ~$ 200 cheaper). I tried the wire retainers for a couple of months and they regularly fell out of my mouth while I was sleeping. When I finally came back home for a visit and could actually make it in for an appointment (their office is barely ever open), they informed me they would be able to give me a set of the clear retainers but not reimburse me the difference in cost. The practice manager said I would be essentially getting «a free retainer» because they wouldn’t be able to do anything with my old one. Well, neither can I… they don’t fit in my mouth. Given the multitude of orthodontic practices in the Bay Area, I’ll probably opt for a different one the next time I’m in need of orthodontia.

Dr. Bulucea did a great job on my teeth. I went in as an adult with a severe bite problem and my treatment just completed after about 2 ½ years. My teeth are great now and I have no more bite issues.
Whenever I had a problem with the braces they did everything they could do to address the issue, and whenever I had questions the doctor would personally take the time to explain things to me.
Over the time span I was treated, I found this place to be very nice and friendly, yet professional. All her staff is top-​notch and highly skilled, but she still remained hands-​on with all the patients. I observed Dr Bulucea interact with the kids that came into the place for braces and she had a very caring manner for them.
If you have a child needing braces or you are looking for an orthodontist for yourself, I would highly recommend her and her staff.

I saw Dr. Bulucea for a consultation regarding my daughter (she is 12) and our options. I left impressed with her ability to put my daughter at ease and clearly explaining the issues and proposed treatments. She was highly knowledgeable and with a genuine interest to help. Highly recommend. Nice place and friendly staff as well.

My 10-​yr old daughter started coming here in January this year for overbite treatment.
The explanation of the orthodontics process, the gear/​braces care, insurance coverage, my balance, and payment methods are all thorough and clear to me. I thought this is the best clinic after I went to two other places nearby. What made me decide is (1) the estimate was reasonable, not too high not too low, and (2) the treatment method was different from two others and was the way I believe d logical. The treatment method was also liked by the patient, my daughter.
Her treatment has gone very good so far. We really appreciated Dr Bulucea showed up on one day the clinic was closed, due to an emergency when her gear broke. Her care is that wonderful.
What I like the most about here is Ginny. She is a professional office manager, who is efficient and knows all patients’ ongoing conditions, possibly their history as well. She doesn’t have me kept waited and solves my questions mostly right away. I sincerely appreciate that effectiveness.

«I give four stars, while I want to give three stars for the staff’s greetings. I don’t feel positiveness when I arrive there. They ask me only regular „how are you?“ and there is no further cheerful conversations. So I leave the place like my work is done and just let out. But, I like this place because I received a birthday card.»
It seems this place is not very kids friendly, but that’s okay to me.
In reference to the cost, I received quotes from two other orthodontists: one in Mountain View, who has 5-​star by Unilocalers, estimated $ 6,800, while another one in Sunnyvale, who has 2-​star by Unilocalers estimated $ 3,000. All, including this Cupertino Ortho Care, are quoted after visual examination and without insurance coverage, while these two offered the same treatment method. You see, there is a huge gap depending upon the clinics. I encourage everyone to get estimates from at least three practitioners. Cupertino Ortho Care was our third stop, and we decided not going any other practitioners.
I want to keep updated as the treatment goes on.

Great orthodontist! I interviewed two others and I chose her. She’s got great bedside manner and she cares.

I am getting my top brackets in about two weeks so I cannot comment of the overall result just yet. However, I already have many good things to say about Dr. Bulucea and her happy and very helpful staff.
During my consultation Dr. Bulucea herself discussed the options available to me and how each one would impact my overall results. She also provided a video that taught me more about jaw surgery and how it is done.
She also, in detail, discussed how my jaw would change with surgery and/​or extractions and braces.
The most important part in deciding on an ortho for me was to find someone that was not pushy about making me spend more money, but more focused on what would be the best treatment for my case.Dr. Bulucea provided just that.
Her receptionist also knows her stuff, she was so helpful with the financial side of things and recommending certain services that will help the process of braces.
I will update my review in a couple of weeks when I get my top brackets on.
Just had my top brackets placed, so far so good. Happy that they had a hot pink option for bands. Also relieved that my braces will be put on in stages, first top, then bottom, then eventually rubber bands to move some of my top teeth, and they also did not push on extractions. I must wait 6 months to see how things progress and then decide. I love the idea of taking my time to make a decision between jaw surgery in extractions.
Again I really enjoy their friendly staff.

My daughter had braces for 3 years. Dr. Bulucea and her staff were amazing to her! She just had her braces removed a couple of months ago, and we really miss going to their office and see their smiling faces. It felt like a second home to us. Eventhough we don’t need to go anymore we are planning to visit them once in a while, and make sure to refer all our friends to them.
