Amy is awesome! Food is great and very large portions! I love the musubi, bbq chicken, and Mac salad. Kulua pork was also great. So glad the original owner is back!!!

The last time I was here was April ’15 just before the restaurant was«taken over» by the new owners. I was sad to see the owner(Amy) go but she had a higher calling to attend to. I continued to monitor the reviews for a few months and was waiting for them to get better and they never did. It was very disappointing to see the new owners run what Amy worked so hard to build up into the ground. For some reason, I decided to check the reviews last night. I was so happy to read that the previous owner was back that I stopped by today. Things, like the menu behind the counter, aren’t back but Amy and the wonderful menu items are. I’m a bit hooked on the Loco Moco but the BBQ Chicken is to die for. I know that it’s a bit sacrilegious to not have macaroni salad with your Hawaiian BBQ, but I always substitute steamed vegetables for the salad. It probably will take a while to get things running like they were. The restaurant has never been that eye-appealing but don’t let this get in you way of enjoying the owners hospitality and the best Hawaiian BBQ in town. Mahalo and welcome back Amy.

This place is great value between classes, and the ownership is really friendly. If you’re a student at De Anza or a local, it’s definitely worth trying.

Great place — Mom & Pop style. Just like Oahu! Authentic, delicious, fresh — highly recommended. I had the combination plate(Chicken, Ribs, and Strip Steak). So. Much. Food! Could easily have fed a family of 4. Soooooo tasty — if you are in the area — you should try it. I came from SLC, UT — il be back. The ‘Ma’ asked me if I like Teriyaki sauce — when I said ‘yes’, she took my box of food and smothered the contents with fresh sauce that had been cooking on the stove. Same thing when she asked about spicey hot sauce — boiling from the pan and carefully ladled onto my plate. I love places like this. Home cooking at its finest!

This place has seriously gone downhill. Went in yesterday to get the #1 seafood + chicken katsu combo. The katsu gravy was not gravy, it was just cold and clumpy. Everything there is just okay and pricey now. The only thing that managed to stay decent is the spam masubi.

Easily my fav Hawaiian bbq place. Parking is a little on the tight side but it hardly is ever full and is much better than next doors parking. The staffing is auper polite and willing to change any part of an order e.g. i had a loco moco chicken katsu the other day and of course it was bomb.

I have been going here for several years now! The food is always excellent! Recently, the current owner was robbed of her restuartant. She just got it back recently! She is now open for business! Good place to eat!

This place is definitely one of my favorites. It is back to the original owners and they are so sweet. She always asks me how my day was and I just love that the owners are there and they make sure your food is consistently bomb diggity. Highly recommend this place.

This restaurant is slowly recovering from a very unfortunate series of events. Long story short, Amy, the original owner was scammed by two korean scums who tried to take over her restaurant. Alas, it was months of mismanagement that resulted in bad customer service and, most unbecoming, worst quality of food. I came here during spring break of this year to find that the old J&J I used to love had a change of ownership. The food was awful and the portion was much smaller than it used to be. I was confused at first but I didn’t give much thought about it. Bottom line is now that Amy has got her restaurant back, I am certain that the food and service will be as good, if not better, as the old J&J I know. My all time favorite is the Chicken Katsu combo with all macaroni salad and the Loco Moco.

J & J has always been my favorite Hawaiian Bbq place. I have been going to eat here for years. The whole menu is really good my favorite are the Bbq and Katsu chicken and I love the fried shrimp. The macaroni salad is the best I have ever had. In June 2015 a Korean couple tried to take it over and changed the menu, had horrible customer service and got every order wrong! I was extremely upset, annoyed and stopped going to eat there. I passed by and saw Amy was back. She is the original owner took back the business. She makes the food exactly how I like it, like it used to be. I was so excited and have been going back ever since. They have big portions and good prices. It’s across the street from DeAnza college on Stevenscreeky

Solid Hawaiian food in hole-in-the wall conditions. Good news is parking won’t ever be a problem. Also, portions are gigantic! Chicken katsu is cooked fresh and it’s definitely enough for two meals, even if you come in really hungry. If you crave Hawaiian food, check it out.

Idk if its affiliated with L & L Hawaiian BBQ but its the same exact thing. I wonder if they have like a whole business with stores A & A, B & B, etc. But i got out of school and we tried to find something to eat with my friend and we came across this place. Honestly, it really looks sketchy from outside and inside. Customer service: It was not great at all. We came in and the lady took really long for her to help us out and take our order because she was too busy cooking food in the back. I mean, why are you doing both jobs??? You need more people working. After we ordered, more and more people kept coming in, and after she took everyones order, they started giving out the food. But then the problem is, we did not get any receipts or order numbers so there was about 8 orders and we all did not know which one was our’s. I got up for my spam masubi I ordered but it ended up not being mine because she not specific in how many, because there was 2 and i ordered 1. The customer service needs to be fixed, and they need to be more organized with their orders and more people working. Food: It isnt that great. The large is not a big difference with about a $ 3 difference. I ordered the chicken katsu and one order of spam masubi, while my friend ordered chicken teriyaki. The food is the same exact thing as Hawaiian BBQ but for some reason this place was not satisfying. Me and my friend both felt nasty after eating it.

I was wondering why portions got smaller last time i went until i read from a million other reviews that the original owner was back and portions went back to the original amount. i went yesterday and i was so glad the money was worth the price for how much i got. it’s A LOT of food even for someone like me who loves to eat. our food took almost 30min which is undetstandable since only 2 people were working. i only eat chicken katsu in hawaiian fast food, but this place makes the best! so crispy, fresh, and big portions. aside from the chicken cut in wide strips, this place is so much better than L & L. there’s also another j&j on s deanza, but i don’t trust that place. stick with this location. since the original owner is back, there’s only lamenated menus for now. I’ve never had any problems with anyone too. card accepted, but beware that their parking lot is tiny like ike’s parking lot and customers only.

Haven’t been here for a while, so I thought I would give it a shot after it has changed its name a few times. The food is now garbage. The BBQ meat had a sour taste to it(bad meat, I am pretty sure) and the BBQ rib was burned pretty badly(see pictures). The only things editable were the mac salad and rice. I am not sure what has happened to this place, but the food has gone downhill big time. I am not sure how people give 5 stars for this place.

I was so sad when I went in two months ago to see one of my favorite high school go-to spots spiral downhill. But now, the old owners are back, and the food is back to its huge portions and incredibly low prices! I don’t necessarily frequent J&J’s because I know it’s not the healthiest option, but I’ll definitely pop in from time to time to get my fill! THANKYOUFORBRINGINGTHEORIGINAL J&J’S BACK I LOVEYOUGUYSSOMUCH

This place is back to the original owners! For those who didn’t know, J&J’s was under a different ownership during the months of May-July. Long story short, the«new» owners of those short two months screwed over Amy(the original owner of J&J’s) and destroyed her business because they were crazy and didn’t know how to run a business OR worse, cook. The proof is all in the old J&J’s Unilocal and all the 40+ one star reviews written during the short two months the new owners ran the business. Anyways, I’m a De Anza student, and J&J’s has, and will always be one of my favorite spots near campus. Their food is excellent and inexpensive. A MINI short rib plate is enough to fill me up and half the price most places would charge! This place is KNOWN for their delicious food, excellent service, and affordable prices. Don’t let the last owners scare you away!

I was THRILLED when I saw that there was a J&J Hawaiian bbq in San Jose. I mean literally Thrilled. I should have read the reviews, I wouldn’t have gone. We pulled up and it really did look like something out of a horror movie, old and run down. Inside there were flies swarming the counter. That should have been the first clue to leave. The 2nd, there was no menu. There were pictures, of what was once a menu, but now it’s on an ipad at the register. Um… Ok. One of the two women working came from behind the stoves to the front to help us out. The husbeast ordered 4 spam mitsubi, me, I wanted the hawaiian plate lunch(Which to my recollection should be Kaluah pig & Cabbage over white rice, and Mac salad — 2 scoops) we got 2 drinks. This meal totaled over $ 30 bucks. We waited. and we waited. and waited some more. the 2 people there before us, were still waiting too. They finally got their food, and then we did. The husbeast said his Mitsubi was good. Mine however… overly salted, overly smoked, and way too much rice. No mac salad, but i did get some sliced veg and fruit with mine. We were offered some watermelon that never came. I would avoid this place at all costs.
