S & G Carpet and More

We had to have carpeting removed and replaced from 3 bathrooms in our condo with a high quality vinyl flooring and S&G did an amazing job. Kevin was our customer service rep and explained my options clearly, helping me pick out great samples, and kept me informed as the order progressed. Dan came out and gave me a very reasonable estimate, and made this daunting project seem easy. Willy and his wife did a phenomenal job, installing everything, and managed to finish our 3 bathrooms in just one day. This included removing and replacing 3 toilets, and eliminating some pesky floor squeaks, too. His workmanship was just perfect. Friendly people who really know their trade is getting harder and harder to find these days. I whole heartedly recommend S&G for flooring. Affordable, knowledgable, fast and a perfect installation. Very poor communication skills in regards to calling me when my product came in and never communicated to me that the product had to be picked up at their warehouse about 16 miles away.

Don’t let them fool you… I shopped and shopped when I was looking for carpet. I almost fell into the Home Depot and Lowe’s trap with whole house installation. After mapping out the square footage I compared all three. In the end I went with S&G for the expertise, helpful sales people. I wound up getting better carpet, MUCH better padding (A must for longevity), and tear out and haul away for a LOT less than the Big Box stores.

I had S&G take out my old kitchen and entryway floor and put in a new floor. It’s gorgeous!
Initially the sales guys were pushing me pretty hard towards laminate because it was going in a kitchen, but once I made up my mind to go with engineered hardwood (it’s what I had already) it was full steam ahead.
We did have some trouble digging up some numbers for HOA approval, which I eventually figured out myself by noticing S&G stocked an alternate underlayment material that actually has STC and IIC numbers listed on their website, unlike the top-​of-​the-​line stuff we were initially chasing around. I wish they’d had that knowledge at hand initially, but I guess it all worked out.

Anyway, for about a 225-​square-​foot job, they started Thursday morning and finished up midway through Saturday. I never for a moment thought the kitchen floor would be the thing that went the fastest out of my «minor» kitchen and bathroom floor remodel, but they delivered. They handled the appliances carefully and made sure things were to my liking, even asking me if I wanted a piece of wood removed because it looked a little different in tone (nah, that’s the point of wood — but I appreciated them asking).
It’s a very nice floor. Color me pleased.

We started our carpet shopping at Home Depot and were quickly convinced that was not the way to go. The sales person had no idea what he was talking about and asked questions that a trained installer needed to answer.
The people at S&G are knowledgeable and helpful. They were able to schedule an appointment with an estimator at my convenience. He was able to advise about what carpet would work best for our need. Once we made our selection, the installed it quickly and did an excellent job. The only downside is that they don’t have a lot in stock and had to order samples until we found the right carpet.
The bottom line is that we spent more than we originally thought, but it was worth it to avoid a complete disaster.

We needed carpeting in 3 bedrooms replaced. We visited the showroom in Cupertino on advice of family — showrooms also available in Almaden among other South Bay locations. They were open till 8:00 PM on some nights which was nice. Showroom was large and had lots of hardwood and carpet options including carpet padding (the stuff that goes underneath). Probably more than a person could really take in, but it was nice to have options.
A nice woman (Pam?) listened to our concerns and preferences and she showed us 3 – 4 different carpets styles that she though we might like. She ordered 3 samples for us which took about 1 – 1.5 weeks to arrive at our house (the samples were about 1 ft x 1.5 ft in size). The same day they arrived our scheduled carpet measuring guy came into measure the dimensions of the room. Took about 15 minutes. We went in that same night, and were given 10% off the total purchase and 50% off an additional area rug. Felt like if we wanted to bargain hard, we could have gotten a little bit more, but didn’t want to push too much.
Installation yesterday. The guy showed up ON TIME at 8:00AM and woke us up if you can believe that. For three small rooms it took him from 8:00 AM till about 1:30 PM. He was fast, funny, and it was a hot day — no complaining. He was sweating like crazy which was a little gross but was very respectful of our things and was patient in describing what he was doing. Overall, my experience with S&G Carpets was excellent and I’d use them again.
