Yamagami’s Nursery

OK this place is too expensive for what they sell. We came here looking for some golden pothos and sansevieria plants, which cost $ 30 and $ 25 respectively at this place. We then went to Home Depot, which is 10 minutes away and got both for under $ 30. I think this place would be decent if they offered good service, such as sharing with their customers what kind of plants they have and how to take good care of them. But for the lack of service that they offer, Yamagami really has nothing in addition to what Home Depot already offers. The exception would be if you are looking for some rare plants. In that case, Yamagami might be the better option as they do carry quite a bit of plants that are not offered at home depot. But beware of the pricing as they charge anywhere from $ 50 to hundreds of dollars for something that you could buy for a few tens of dollars at Home Depot. So double check pricing prior to purchase. Buyers beware!

This place is a local gem!
Dont be deceived by the humble setup close to the door. The real value of this establishment lies in the back.
The myriad of fruit and berry trees and bushes is most impressive I’ve ever seen.

Just got our tree! The people were extremely friendly and helpful. And every tree was fresh and gorgeous!!! That was the fastest I’ve EVER found a tree. Definitely coming back here for all my nursery needs (and for our tree next year).

Awesome selection, service and price. Very knowledable staff and am now considering them for a landscaping architect job. Will definetly be back even from Willow Glen.

The staff here are very helpful and almost have magical powers in identifying random plants from as little as a couple leaves or a small branch! Very happy with the wide selection of unique plants. They have the standard 1 year plant guarantee and all the plants look well taken care of and healthy. Not the least expensive place to buy plants but they stock plants you may not find elsewhere and can order anything you may want. They have occasional sales too!

A really well stocked nursery with lots of friendly people to help find whatever you’re looking for.
I’ve been here a number of times and everyone from the outside to the cashiers inside have been very accommodating. It’s everything you’re looking for — so get in there.
The only ding I can fault them for are their inside plants — they seem a little on the pricier side.

Just walked out of here, 4:30pm on a weekday and I was the only one in nursery. Bumped into three employees who saw I was there. NOT ONE GREETING. Prices on the high side but plants are well organized and labels are informative. Just don’t expect service.
Walked down the street to Summerwinds and got greeted twice within five minutes. Walked out with a purchase.

Usually, I have friendly and nice cashiers here but yesterday.
I ordered two trees and when I picked them up, they were wrong ones.
When I mentioned it, the cashier girl said
«They look EXACTLY the same to me?» shrugging her shoulders.
So I picked the right tree which has been the last one from outside. (I didn’t buy it before as I wanted two at a time.)
We compare them and the trees they ordered for me were wrong.
Now This cashier said «You have to pay extra. The price board is wrong. Not for this one but for the other tree. «pointing at the price board stuck middle in the pot.
Wrong trees, wrong priceboard, and extra cost?
I waited for two weeks, going there at 9am for nothing but paying more? Yes I did.
The cashier ended up calling the other staff and this one apologized to me, order the right trees, do the paper work for me efficiently. I was very thankful for this staff but not the cashier.

I’ve only visited this place once or twice, but before I visited this place, I was always interested in cacti, but never had any. When I saw the cacti section, I was super excited and full of emotion, and picked up a small Red Head Irishman cactus. It was in a nice plastic square pot and it had a good gritty mix. I thought the price was reasonable, about 4 bucks. When I went home though, it was filled with mealy bugs. It was hella nasty seeing them all over the table in my room. I tried to kill them with a few safe pesticides, but it only cut them down by half. That was two years ago. Today, the cactus is still alive but still has a few mealies. I now have a beautiful collection of over 30 cacti and succulents, all from different stores.
My parents also bought a pink bush from here for about $ 25. It died later because they didn’t know how to care for it (lol). I’m not sure if I’ll come back to this place though, maybe when it’s raining money.

I have been going here for the past 5 years. Each time I go, I always seem to ask a «stupid» question, but the staff has always been so friendly. Because of Yamagami’s, I have a WONDERFUL vegetable garden in my backyard. Thank you so much!

I love this place. Wide selection of plants and other items for your gardening needs. Very friendly staff. There is an information center in the middle of the nursery and they help you find plants if you can’t locate them or provide other information related to plant care or where to find the plants in case they don’t have them.
A great place for all plant lovers.

Yamagami is the nursery I visited most often in the bay area. I’ve been there customer for many years. I often walked there when I dropped my kids to some activities around. They display the plants very nicely. I enjoy watching all the plants just by walking around. Their plants are not cheap, but with good qualities, and many good species I don’t find in other nurseries. The staff are very friendly and helpful too. They will help the customer to load the plants and other products in the cars, and put a layer of plastic under before they put the plants to avoid mess up the car. Very considerate!

I’ve been to Yamagami’s several times, and have generally been impressed with their products and service. However, I recently went looking to purchase some rose bushes. It was a Saturday afternoon, and not a single person approached me to see if I needed help. I was there over ½ hour, trying to make sense of the roses on display, and was very frustrated. Eventually, I did get quite a bit of information from another shopper, including a suggestion to check out another nursery, where I later found exactly what I was looking for.

Yamagami’s has been a fixture in the city of Cupertino, CA. The owner, Preston and his staff are second to none. They are all experts and will provide expert advise and recommendations on what to buy for your home (outdoor and indoor) and the maintenance. Everything from their Potted plants, indoor plants, trees, fruit trees, citrus, rose bushes and even palm trees are of quality.
I came in just last week and picked up my 10 foot Noble Fir Christmas tree. Really excited about it as it looks like the tree from the Grinch who stole Christmas. Probably the best tree I have ever purchased.
The Christmas trees came on on Wed, 11÷19÷14 and I picked up 2 days later. It helps to pre order and you save 10% by doing so. The staff provided a fresh cut to the base and netted the tree and tied it down on top of my SUV and away I went. It is a little pricey but worth it for the quality of the tree.
I might have been the first person in the Bay Area with a Christmas tree but I have to say I have one of the best looking ones since I got so early.
I recommend Yamagami’s for Christmas trees and for all your nursery needs.

This is an awesome place for advice and help. I know NOTHING about plants and stuff, so here goes…
I had the bright idea of starting my own bonsai project, but had no idea what specie of plant or what I should be doing. Luckily, when I spoke to someone on the phone they mentioned I should speak with Britney, whom I believe is either related to the owners and/​or has been working there for a while now! She was super helpful and nice, and mentioned for an indoor bonsai she recommended a Ming Aralia, which unfortunately she didn’t have. She took down my name and number, and told me they’d give me a call when they came in. She also mentioned that she would help me re-​pot it and make it look nice when it came in, which I was very excited about!
About two weeks later, I get a call from Yamigami’s saying that the plant has come in, and wanted to come in and get it, but unfortunately I was working at the time so I bought it from them over the phone. That weekend I picked it up, but unfortunately was out sick so I took the plant home.
About a week later, Britney gave me a call and let me know she was back in, and I told her I wouldn’t be able to go in until the weekend after. Well, today was the day, and Britney was awesome. She helped me pick out a pot, gave me some tips while I bounced off all the info I learned about my plant online to confirm with her, re-​potted the plant, and added some decorative rocks. It looks amazing (please see my pictures)! She only charged me for the pot, which I thought was very nice, and she was so awesome throughout the whole process that I wanted to make sure everyone knew about it. I will definitely be going here in the future for all my nursery needs. I absolutely love my bonsai. Thank you Britney

Great nursery that I used to pass by day after day but never went to until I discovered a love for gardening! Lots of plants and veggies to choose from! Workers are super friendly and helpful! Prices are very fair as well.

They have a large variety of fruit trees. There are various cultivars for each fruit. They have the widest assortment of citrus. The pomegranate selection is diverse too. I was surprised I could find the prized Parfianka Pomegranate here. I ended up getting a Goji berry bush at 2 feet tall for $ 15.
The smaller trees are competitively priced compared to Lowe’s and Home Depot, but the bigger trees get exponentially more expensive. You will pay hundreds for the bigger trees.

This place is gigantic. You want peppers or tomatoes? you’re walking the length of a football field to get them. Obviously a lot of functional plans, lots of kitschy stuff (a Buddha statue in your corn rows?) too. Pots, plates, barrels, tools, it’s a green thumbers nirvana. Unfortunately Im not that much into gardening, but it’s eye opening to see how involved one can get even as an amateur.

My favorite place to get plants and garden supplies. Very helpful staff, big selection of organic and non-​organic plants and they even provide a guarantee on their plants.
You pay for all of these things through your nose, but once you start marching the ORGANIC path, your vocabulary will loose certain words… «cheap» is one of them. Enjoy ;)
