Brookhaven College

The registration process is a nightmare. Avoid at all costs. Many people in the administration/​advising offices are, in my opinion, incompetent. They can’t help you so they will pass you off to someone else because its easier that way. I was dropped from, and added to, classes without my knowledge or permission! They also once placed a block on my account for no reason at all, even though I had paid for my class and could prove it. I had to dispute the charge with American Express, and American Express, fortunately, reversed the charge. The incompetence of this place is appalling. (I have documentation to prove what I am saying here, and will be retaining it for a long time)

This is a really great college. Especially as a student who has been to others before. It’s a truly beautiful campus.

had the worst experience ever today. went into the multicultural center for international students to help a friend apply. advisor Alma was rude. she continued to interrupt me and was not interested in helping us out. she talked down to us and treated us like criminals.

I have been going her for about a year in a half. Over the summer they re did the parking lot and the baseball fields etc. I love the campus so beautiful and really resourceful

All of the Dallas County community college District campuses are great. Anybody who complains about the office organization at these two year universities are going to be in for quite a shock when they see the organization of some larger four-​year. Navigating the bureaucracy is part of the skills you learn in college.
I took classes here and at Eastfield to transfer to University of North Texas. The advantage that these classes gave me at University were immeasurable.
Anybody considering college should seriously consider community college. In Texas we have a program called the «Texas common course numbers» that make classes taken at two universities easily transferable to four-​year universities. For example English 1301 has a specific curriculum that means all Texas universities will except it. And when you factor in the cost savings of utilizing these universities for your first two years of study they are absolutely invaluable.

I hated going to school here. The main building“s” always smells, I have been followed by creepy guys, and do not feel welcomed or like it is a positive environment.

OMG. I just got my degree like literally this week. I wanted to get my paper and transcripts before I shared my opinions! The only person who helped me was the woman in admissions who did my graduation paperwork. I was harassed and hit on by the creepy bald white guy and even emailed about it && never heard back.
Really??? Someone walking with me 2 my car && they can’t even respond! I dropped off my transcripts from UNT like 5x to the blonde assistant but for some reason they were «never received» or «someone in the back must have misfiled» wtf! I HANDED them and received a copy. This place is a joke && they don’t appreciate their students. Very few ppl helped me. The supervisor in advising, Brenda is a joke too! They’re all uneducated and sluggish. Stuck in the 90s and pick && choose who’s worthy of an exception.
Don’t do it!

Such a great community college. Lots of opportunities for students to get involved. There is ample help on campus if you ask or look for it. Teachers are great and parking isn’t too bad. The new buildings and additions are really great!

Love the school and all the staff, not loving the financial aid department. Not the process, but the people you have to deal with on the phone are absolutely terrible!
Theses ladies are rude! Every time i call to ask a question they don’t seem to care about what you have to say.
Example I have called four separate times and every time I call… I get no where.
In a three week time span I have had to submit my package for review 3 times, for no reason. So I tried to call and get a better understanding of why I haven’t recieved my financial aid and as usual I have no clear answer. The lady on the phone told me I had to submit my package for review AGAIN, I asked her why this was needed and she refered me to my email. I found the email… it did not give any instructions to log on to the link in the email.

No where did this email say i had to log in and submit my package for review. I asked the lady if there is going to be a delay in time before i can recieve my financial aid because the package had just been submitted, she paused then as if she was speaking with a child replied in a very impatient voice, «Yeeeeeesss, because you never responded to the email by submitting the package.»
Point is if you plan on going to Brookhaven hopefuly you can afford your classes out of pocket!

This educational institution is certainly under-​rated.
I just graduated from high school this past June (Class of 2012! Woot!)
and I can honestly say that prior to my second-​semester of senior year, in high school, I was a «university snob». That being said, I can totally understand the anxieties protruding out of Brookhaven and/​or university students.
I’ve taken courses here before, as a dual-​credit student, and have enjoyed my time here. The professors, for the most part, are very knowledgeable and passionate people. I definitely feel like Brookhaven will prepare me for my transfer to Texas A&M!

I enjoy walking my dogs along the trail… Great trail… And if you walk your dog (s) make sure you pick up after it… I’ve walked her for YEARS and it’s a nice track to walk

BHC is awesome and campus is pretty compacted.
I do recommend you check out ratemyprofessor before you enroll in a class. I’ve unfortunately been stuck w/​several horrible teachers.
Parking kinda sucks at the beginning of every semester, just be patient and it will wear off.
The subway is awesome to have in bldg S & the track around the school is great!

After attending a Local 4 year private liberal arts college, and spending a lot of time on 4 year state college campuses, I gotta say: Brookhaven is the way to go. Unlike at 4 year liberal arts schools, the professors here actually have practical knowledge and will actually help you and most importantly, WILL RESPOND TO YOUR QUESTIONS AND YOUR EMAILS!!!
This is a good school with good programs, and I would like to see it get accredited as a 4 year state school!
I am currently in the Automotive Program, and I like it a lot. I get to do what I love, and people are polite and kind and helpful! I was about to give up on higher education, but after positive experiences here, I feel much better about my life and what I can do with it!
I really love this place! and I hope good things happen to it!

I dont care what some people say– the professors are cool and want you to succeed– the campus is always clean– they promote healthy and great things– the running track is AWESOME. And over all if i could I would complete my entire degree here…

Ive taken a few classes here on and off for transfer credit. In my opinion, this is one of the better DCCCD schools. I try to chose courses here or at North Lake. The campus is nice, parking is free, and there are always security guards patrolling the parking lot. As a lady taking classes at night, I do appreciate Brookhaven’s extra effort to keep the campus safe. The counselors here weren’t particularly helpful but you are kind of getting what you pay for. I would recommend Brookhaven if you need to take some classes in your area. However, if you are taking courses for transfer go get a degree plan from the school that will be accepting your transfer credits. I’ve had some good professors here and some terrible ones. Find recommendations from former students if you can.

Pro: Brookhaven is a great academic institution that Dallas is generally lucky to have. The professors and campus are top notch for a local college, and its very cheap if you live in Dallas County. That can easily be overshadowed by the cons, as specified below.
Con: Brookhaven is a completely asinine and ridiculous place when it comes to registration or anything having to do with non-​academia at the campus. The office staff is, without any exception that I have seen in two years to this point, totally inept at everything requiring more brain power than tying a shoelace. I have never been told the same instruction twice when it comes to required documentation, forms, deadlines, etc. Every office (they are all separate, financial aid, advising, admissions) will bounce you back and forth and make you wait in unnecessary lines before sending you to yet another office empty handed. The staff will generally go out of their way to not offer solutions to your issue and they will go out of their way to ignore you until the point where it becomes apparent that you are on some sort of hidden camera show and you’re peering into the fake plants strategically placed around the office.
The stress of dealing with the student support staff has led me both to tears and fits of pressure-​release-​screaming in the car sitting in the parking lot.
Pro: you dont have to pay for parking

Sure, I’m still going to UTD, but Brookhaven or any other community college is a great option for getting rid of those lower level core classes at a really affordable price while currently, the four year universities are charging an arm and a leg for an education. Also if you have a musical talent and want to practice with a group or want to learn a foreign language this place is great for that too.
