Specialties
Buether Joe & Carpenter, LLC is an intellectual property and commercial litigation boutique law firm. We focus our practice on patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, and unfair competition litigation, as well as antitrust, contract and other business disputes for both plaintiffs and defendants. BJC offers clients the experience and expertise of large law firm attorneys but at a much more reasonable cost.
Our clients choose us because we provide the skill, experience, and professionalism of large firm litigators but at a much better value.
Our clients and their cases are extremely important to us. We believe in delivering the highest quality work product, being responsive, and managing legal costs. We have over 60 years of combined experience litigating intellectual property and commercial lawsuits and have developed strategies for handling cases both effectively and efficiently.
As a smaller firm, we do not carry the high overhead that large firms must pass on to their clients or the layers of bureaucracy that can hamper a law firm’s ability to arrange for creative and flexible fee arrangements.
History
Established in 2010.
BJC was formed by Eric Buether, Chris Joe and Brian Carpenter, former Greenberg Traurig shareholders in its Dallas IP litigation section. Mr. Buether formerly served as the head of Greenberg Traurig Dallas’ IP litigation group.
Mr. Buether was a founding member of the litigation boutique McKool Smith, P.C., helping start its patent litigation practice and has been honored as a Texas SuperLawyer every year since 2004. Before McKool Smith, he practiced law at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher and Johnson & Gibbs.
Mr. Joe was associated with Holtzman Urquhart & Moore in Houston before joining Mr. Buether at McKool Smith in 1996.
Mr. Carpenter began his career in Dallas in 1991 and since then has litigated patent infringement cases throughout the country including California and Colorado where he is also licensed. Since 2005, Mr. Carpenter has teamed with Messrs. Buether and Joe on patent infringement cases in the Eastern District of Texas.
