Camden Design District

I just moved in to a Camden community in the last 5 months. First off I love the pool at our complex. It is huge, very well designed and the Camden sponsored pool parties are much appreciated as well. I love the fact that the Camden website is upgraded and allows you to easily and effortlessly pay rent (see full bills), submit maintenance requests and keep updated on any other apt related items. On the maintenance topic, the maintenance team is amazing and fulfills requests always within the same day or the next day. Last but not least, I just appreciate the spaciousness of the apartments themselves and all of the more expensive features that are included (lightening, appliances, etc.).

I have been very happy here at Camden Design District. I think you get a very high quality apartment for a very fair price. The managers and staff are friendly and engaged and committed to making sure their tenants are taken care of. There are community gatherings and fun events. The pool is gorgeous and the maintenance staff are amazing! I just extended my lease because I am so happy being here and I want to continue living here :)

My initial review included package receiving. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. When I renewed my lease, my rent went up by $ 160. Shortly after, they sent out a new policy saying that they will no longer accept packages. It is frustrating to pay more and have services taken away. FedEx and UPS will leave packages at your door, however USPS will not. If the parcel boxes are full, which often happens considering the ratio of residents to parcel boxes, USPS will just send it back to the Post Office. They do not even check to see if you are home. There have been multiple times where I’ve been home, yet I receive a notice about an attempted delivery. It is frustrating to have to go to the Post Office when you were actually there when mailman was there. Neither Camden nor USPS act in the interest of the resident. Complaints to either party just result in them blaming the other without any attempts to work towards a legitimate solution. If you do not receive packages, this may not be an issue for you. However, if you regularly have packages delivered, especially anything time-​sensitive, I would think twice. Both Camden and USPS are essentially in a standoff where the bottom line is if you want your packages, you must go to the Post Office in Irving. If you talk to management, you just receive a standard response that borders on tone-​deaf and insulting.

I’ve lived at Camden properties (back and forth between Farmers Market and Design District) since 2008 and I’m a fan. I moved back to the Design District a few months ago when I started working in North Dallas and access to the Tollway was a big plus.
I love the neighborhood. There are amazing restaurants and it seems like something new opens every month. The apartments themselves are great. I’ve lived in everything from a studio to a two bedroom and loved them all. Closets are huge, floor plans are well laid out and patios are spacious too.
The staff is fantastic as well. Maintenance issues are handled right away. I’ve rarely had to wait more than a few hours for someone to come look at a problem and if it couldn’t be fixed right away (not often) they keep me posted on when things should be finished.
I personally have no dog in the package fight. I’ve always had my packages sent to my office because the apt office is closed by the time I get home and I otherwise would have had to wait until a day off to pick up packages. So nothing has really changed for me.
The pool is amazing and I love the dog park. The fitness center is kept clean and had a decent amount of equipment for an apartment gym as well. If I had one real complaint it’s that there isn’t covered parking on the 4^th floor of the garage but that’s pretty nitpicky.

Camden’s location is great for me. I appreciate the cleanliness of the complex, repairs are rapid, and it’s quiet. I feel like sometimes the customer service is lacking, but all in all, living here has been a good experience.
Recently the complex has been making improvements that are not particularly improving my living experience. The dog park is now accessible to residents only, but there’s been many times my fob doesn’t work, or there’s tape over the locking mechanism because of obvious issues. Last summer they painted and it looked good. Now, for some reason, someone has decided to paint again, and add some sort of multi-​colored circus looking decal to the front office. I don’t think it looks very nice, and now they’re painting the columns multiple colors to match the office. I absolutely dislike it and think the complex now looks cheap and cheesy. I’d rather pick up packages at the post office than be confronted with this color scheme every time I enter and exit the property.

I lived at Camden Design District for a little under two years and I loved everything about it. In fact, if I didn’t have to relocate to another state for work I would have renewed my lease for a second time. The grounds and amenities are always cleaned and cared for. They just recently renovated the pool (which I didn’t think even needed it) and it’s really gorgeous.
I love the location — it’s close to downtown, uptown, and there are great places to eat in walking distance from the building.
The staff is wonderful. Everyone, including the former and present manager, assistant manager and other staff were always so pleasant and great to deal with. This includes the maintenance staff as well; just so nice! Speaking of maintenance, they are super quick to get to your requests for items that might need to be fixed.
Some apartments can be so noisy, but I found this building to be better insulated than others. This is a huge deal to me. I know other places will tell you «It’s typical apartment living» but that’s not 100% true. Some places are just not made well. I hardly ever heard my neighbors and only once had to knock and ask about turning something down. Turns out they were just watching a movie with some new stereo equipment turned up! Other than that, nothing!
The other thing I really appreciate is how well they enforce the rules. I’ve lived other places were tenants leave trash out whenever they want, stay in the pool all hours of the night, park where they do not belong, etc. I didn’t feel that was the case here. They really enforced the rules and that makes this complex a nicer place to live. I actually read a review where someone complained about this. Rated the complex 1 star and then complained about certain things I think are ridiculous… I wouldn’t rely heavily on reviews made by people that openly admit to paying rent late, just saying.
Lastly, I will mention that where you live in the complex is important. If you do not want to hear summer time events at the pool, you shouldn’t get a pool facing apartment. I didn’t mind it, but just know in the summer it can get loud. Good news is, they enforce the pool hours! Some people did not like that the complex stopped accepting packages. This did not impact me at all. I never had a problem with packages being left at the door and I really don’t think that this minor change should be reflected in a 1 star review either. There is so much more to living at Camden than how you receive packages.
All in all, if I had to move back to Dallas I would contact Camden in a heartbeat!

A month after we moved here Camden Trust (corporate) decided it would no longer receive packages for tenants. Now our halls are littered with boxes and I have to make weekly trips to the post office. When confronted by a 70+ tenants petition from CDDA and 200+ from Farmers Market, Camden basically told us «tough, live with it.» Many of us are getting tired of lost packages, the terrible hours at the post office, and Camden’s lack of concern.
Furthermore, many of the tenants that welcomed us into the community are now leaving because of rate hikes. Don’t expect to stay here past your first lease unless you’re willing to shell out a couple hundred extra bucks a month stay and god help you if your lease is up in the summer.

As someone who has an incredibly hectic schedule, I relied heavily on knowing that my packages would always be at my apartment complex waiting for me. This is no longer the case. Camden properties have now chosen to stop accepting packages for their residents leaving us searching for which delivery service may have them held at one of their various locations with limited hours. Not only did they stop accepting packages but those of us who are already locked into a lease had no say in the matter.
This an amenities that every other apartment complex in Dallas offers and in this day in age is 100% necessary.

I’ve lived in various apartment complexes over the years and have never had a complex stop accepting UPS, USPS, and FedEx packages at the office. Much less completely without notice to tenants. In my view, this stance by corporate management reflects a complete disregard for the renters in this building, especially when these packages delivery services are expected to leave packages on our doorsteps, but since management can’t keep all the pedestrian gates locking properly, our packages are not secure.
The local leasing office agents are all very nice people, and have been helpful with our questions and concerns regarding the complex. Maintenance is friendly, and quick and replaced our broken ice maker in our freezer in just a couple of days. We love the design district area and the view is unrivaled for most apartment complexes.
However, in an age where Dallas traffic nearly completely eliminates our ability to drive to buy goods (especially when there are so few department stores in the vicinity), long lines at the post office, and local post office hours that end during our work days, this package policy negates the benefits of living in this complex. I suggest if you order online often, hate driving in traffic, and dislike standing in line at the post office even more, that you search elsewhere for non-​Camden Properties to live in.

If I had written this review a few months ago, it would have been five stars. The property is nice, located in a great area, and has good management and maintenance. Unfortunately, Camden recently announced a policy change that I’m told came down from corporate. They are no longer accepting any package deliveries to the front office.
This policy is unlike most apartment complexes that I am aware of. They announced the change rather cheerfully, with some colorful spin about how they are putting the responsibility back on the «experts» in package delivery and storage, but what this really amounts to in practice is that many packages will never make it to your apartment at all. Have a USPS delivery that is a tad too large for package lockers? Have fun driving miles away and waiting in line for upwards of an hour.
It appears there has been a bit of a tenant revolt going on at some Camden properties concerning this decision, and one of our neighbors was recently circulating a petition (good on him!). It’s very questionable for the company to modify a policy like that in the middle of everyone’s lease terms without giving them a choice to leave. We just signed a 15 month lease expecting another great year, and Camden dropped this bomb on us shortly afterwards. I can say with confidence that we would not have renewed at all had this decision come out just a little sooner.
I would happily revise my review to 5 stars if the policy were changed. Who knows? Maybe the managers of the Camden Design District could countermand the national policy. But in any case, the corporate stance is totally uninteresting to me as a consumer and a renter. What matters is the quality of service, which has just taken a nose dive.

Moved into Camden Design District over a month ago and I cannot be any happier. It’s quiet yet close enough to uptown, deep Ellem, and Greenville. The pool is very nice and the unit itself is homey and cozy. I’ve had a few maintenance issues but I submitted a repair online and everything was fixed the following day. Nancy and the rest of the crew in the office are always smiling and happy to accommodate anything I need.

I moved into Camden Design District in January 2015. I have had a wonderful experience since moving in. The management is exceptional, as is their maintenance staff. I have had every single request fixed in less than an hour without hesitation. They are happy to help you in whatever way possible and are more than willing to hear suggestions as to how they can improve. They also have fun brunches and events. I have lived in many apartment complexes and none of them hold a candle to this place. I would recommend Camden Design District to anyone looking for a nice, quiet complex in this area. And, they have their own dog park!

I moved in a couple months ago (158) and so far this is a wonderful place! The office staff are incredibly nice, as are the maintenance guys (I’ve had them out a few times to ‘fix’ what wasn’t quite right from the previous renter). Each time they’ve been here, they’ve been very pleasant, even going so far to ask if there was anything else I needed them to check while they were there.
The complex feels very safe and clean, and I love being close to some really great little food places nearby. It does get a little loud at times as my unit faces Turtle Creek (traffic noise), and occasionally I wonder what my upstairs neighbor is doing as I can hear loud thumping/​walking (hey, it’s an apartment complex after all, you’re bound to hear some of the folks around you), but overall the noise level is low.
They have designated parking spots for an additional fee; however, so far I have never really had an issue finding a spot when I come home later in the evening.
While I do appreciate the convenience of having the valet trash service (which is an addition to the rental price), I would prefer the ability to opt in or out of this service. I really do not find it inconvenient to carry my trash to the dumpster on my way out, but that’s just me. There are many folks who may appreciate this amenity.

My girlfriend and I just recently moved into Camden Design district and so far, we have had an excellent first few weeks.
Low noise factor, extremely convenient location, for the most part high quality interior trim, amenities are fantastic, great management office team, good maintenance team.
In general, this has been a very pleasant living experience, and we look forward to our time here.

I am incredible happy with Camden Design District! I have had my fair share of terrible apartment experiences, but Camden has been awesome! The apartments themselves are beautiful and are all updated. Camden’s prices are extremely affordable and the amenities are great. The pool is gorgeous and looks like its a resort pool. Anytime I have had an issue, the staff have been extremely gracious and helpful. They are the friendliest people I have encountered in any apartment complex. Its also in a perfect spot!
This is a fantastic apartment complex… hands down!

What a beautiful place. We were shown a model and an empty apt, both looked awesome. The hallways are clean and the community location is perfect for what me and my bf are looking for. What sealed the deal was the people working in the office. Tony answered all our questions and didn’t hesitate to show us more than one option. He was very helpful and professional. We will be moving in January and are very enthused. Design district here we come!

I’ve been here for 9 months and barring one minor incident when I initially moved in, my experience has been very pleasant. The office staff are very approachable. The maintenance team is the same and they are very responsive. My neighbors are great, the complex is very dog-​friendly. I can’t complain — probably one of the better apartment experiences I’ve had!

We’ve been living here for over 2 years now and are ready to consider our 3^rd long term lease. The only issue I have are the residents who feel they are above following the guidelines clearly spelled out in the lease they signed or think they are too good to clean up after themselves or their own pets but most neighbors are very friendly. The maintenance staff do a great job. The office staff have always been right on top of any requests. We find it a fabulous place to live!

Awful! I lived here from July 2012 — August 2013. It became my most productive year ever at work because I’d stay late each night at the office, miserable at the thought of coming home to this place. While the fact that my unit faced the garage might have made for about 70% of the problem, there were PLENTY of other issues: the office staff was shiftless and had absolutely horrible attitudes. I have never seen a group of people who acted so put upon by the simple task of doing their job.
I had the pleasure of living a few doors away from what the product would be if A&E took their shows «Intervention» and «Hoarders» and mashed them together; this came in the form of a meth addicted, hoarder with a quasi-​homeless boyfriend. They would fight, meth addict on the lease would kick out quasi-​homeless boyfriend. Quasi-​homeless boyfriend would sleep in the stairwells of the complex for the night. I’d complained about this neighbor repeatedly for noise violations to management and he wasn’t even on their radar UNTIL he fell behind on his rent. Luckily, Dallas Police had to kick his door in for some reason (not related to not paying rent) and he was taken out in handcuffs. The manager had the nerve to ask me and some other neighbors if we would testify against this neighbor on Camden Realty Trust’s behalf in the event there were court proceedings involving the guy’s eviction. I asked him if I testified, could Camden do anything to ensure that any of us as his former neighbors would be safe? The manager said «No». Could I move units or complexes? No. That said, the discussion didn’t really get too far.
The garage was awful, people drove around corners and up the ramps at tollway speeds. It was so bad that there were multiple times when parked vehicles were hit when someone took a corner too fast. Once inside the building the hallways were poorly lit, grimy, and for the most part, just filthy. If you didn’t live in a unit up near the front off the complex near the pool or the leasing office, it was like living somewhere entirely different. The whole experience, in my opinion, was that I paid market rate for what looked to be a nice place to live, but the reality was that the experience I had was more on par with the type of stuff you’d see on the news about Section 8 apartment complexes in South Dallas. Aside from that, this place isn’t new anymore (it’s at least five years old) and because Camden is so cheap, I doubt they’ve made many (or even any) updates.
Upon moving out, I left the apartment far cleaner than it was when I moved in the year prior. Imagine my surprise about three weeks after being done with the place when I get a bill from them for almost $ 200 for cleaning services. They alleged that the carpet needed «extensive cleaning». Shouldn’t ALL carpets in an apartment complex be extensively cleaned when someone moves out?! Hmmm… I wonder if the condition of the carpet in my apartment had something to do with how filthy the floors in the complex’s hallways typically were? Just a thought.
Why would you even waste want to waste your hard earned money and have no peace of mind about where you call home? You can just as easily move into one of about two dozen places that are newly built or just being completed nearby and pay the same amount. The great thing about Dallas apartment living is that there are always tons of brand new places to live being built in all of the popular areas in a never-​ending cycle. Avoid signing yourself up to for a year of anguish and misery: just pass right on by this place.

Had to break a lease due to job transfer as well and they wanted me to pay up 60 days worth of rent and another 1 month rent and the hold money. Came out to 3.3K.
So basically, super loud place, crappy management, and horrible lease terms. You’ll be better off at any of the alternatives nearby like 1900 HI line/Bell’s. There’s two other places nearby as well that would be worth checking out.
