History
Established in 1980.
Canine Commissary, independently owned and operated, started business in 1980 with a small store located on Garland Rd, in Dallas. We are now, just south of the original store, in our current location. The store has grown from a tiny 500 square foot dog and cat supply to over 10,000 square feet of supplies for dogs and cats. Our mission was, and still is, to provide quality food and supplies at affordable prices. The idea of selling only pet supplies, with no sales of live animals, no grooming, training, or boarding was a totally new concept in pet retail in the early 1980’s. We have supported local animal rescue groups from our beginning and continue to promote and help place unwanted animals in their forever homes through in-store adoption events with area rescue organizations. We are also active in our local community. Our store is located in East Dallas south of I-635 between Jupiter and Northwest Highway.
Meet the Business Owner
Linda R.
Business Owner
I am originally from Bad Axe, Michigan. I left Bad Axe after high school and attended a small business college. I began a career at Dow Chemical in Midland, Mi as a secretary in the Consumer Products Division. I transferred to Dallas and continued to work for Dow. I had a dream of owning my own business and eventually left Dow to pursue that dream. In the late 70’s, shopping for your pet normally took place at the grocery store, a feed store, or a pet shop. The selection of supplies for your pet was minimal and the quality of the pet food was limited. I personally shopped for my dog at a small store in East Dallas. The shop was operated by a husband and wife team selling just dog supplies. The shop came up for sale and the dream of owning my own business became a reality. I immediately added cat supplies to the selection of products. A year later my husband joined me and together we turned the small 500 square feet of retail into the business we have today.
