The Church of the Incarnation is located between downtown Dallas and University Park in the heart of the neighborhood of Uptown. Always considered a regional church, Incarnation is one of the best kept secrets in Dallas. A large program-sized parish that feels like a small church, knitted together by friendships that often last a lifetime.
A Great Tradition Church which places before the contemporary world the Word of God in its authentic, continuous living apostolic tradition; sane and balanced; organically connected to the life of the Early Church through its bishops and priests; rejoicing in the full western liturgical and theological heritage. Incarnation is the real deal.
History
Established in 1879.
The Church of the Incarnation was founded in 1879 by the Bishop Alexander Garrett as the Cathedral Chapel of the Incarnation. Originally built on the corner of McKinney and Harwood, «far north» of Dallas’ business and residential community. In 1897 the Mission Church became a full-fledged parish of the Diocese of Dallas. Under the leadership of its dedicated rectors and many devoted members, the church grew in size and service to the community. In 1902, Incarnation dedicated the first brick building that was used for the next 25 years. In 1927, the Church of the Incarnation moved to a new building farther north on McKinney at Cambrick Avenue. Fifteen rectors have served Incarnation in the past 112 years and the modest brick chapel has become a 5-acre campus serving the Dallas community with a Christian volunteer force of 1,800 households.
