Had the same issue as Chandni. Came there one night with 3 guys, 5 girls. No line, not busy because it was POURING rain. Wouldn’t let us in. Didn’t care to put up a fight. Went next door to Common Table and had a great time at a place that was happy to have our business.

They didn’t allow us to get in because we are brown.

Wanted to put no stars but in order for me to write a review I had to put 1 star. There were 2 guys and me(female) and the guy at the gate wouldn’t let us in only if it was a dude and female. The place wasn’t even full and what kind of rules is that. I’ve had a friend that has had problems with getting with tennis shoes when half of the place had on tennis shoes. I will never go back! Trash!

If you are Indian or Pakistani. Then you re not getting in. I have heard through multiple people that the owner(who happens to be Pakistani) does not want this club with too many brown folks.

I’ve been hearing a lot about this place and finally had the chance to check it out last weekend. I went on a Friday night and it was pretty packed. It’s in a very non-descript building next door to Common Table– an unexpected spot for a club-like bar. I would compare the crowd a little to Eberhard on Henderson. They offer table service but I didn’t see anyone doing that the night I was there. It is apparently hard to get in later on in the night– especially if you’re a guy. So get there early! They also have a great outdoor patio out back with a bar. I will definitely be back.

Vanessa A Rojas reviewed Citizen – 17 mins · Warning this is going to be long but worth concidering to read: I’ve been in the industry for over a decade and a half but have recently taken time away from it, to take on my own endeavors in a completely opposite industry. I started at the Four Seasons Resort, opened up the first club to do Bottle Service in Dallas called«SENSE» and have dealt w the Vegas Style Mayhem of the opening of «Ghostbar»… As the years have progressed with Many more Dallas clubs down the road under my belt, I would say I have watched the«Quality High Service Standards» diminish in this industry over the years. I have always openly told FRIENDS who became owners and/or General Managers this about their Venues because I do give a sh! t. Never have I been nor knowing anything about the establishment, I was recently asked by one of the owners if I may just help out the staff and fill in a bar shift for just the night. Ofcourse I said«Yes» even though I’m SKEPTICAL about being associated due to some horrible reviews that were left on Facebook. Keeping these horrible reviews in mind I noted them in with my first impression of the venue. The feel of walking into it, reminded me of going into my inlaws home for the first time. Its set to welcome you in and make feel comfortable but seemingly too good to be true and may become disastrous. Haaa Actually, the ambiance was very warm and welcoming… The music was reminiscent and easy to speak over to keep a conversation and the small crowd was as universal and eclectic with ethnicity as the staff. It was currently during the end of their Happy Hour. After being settled in to familiarize with Management, The barstaff, the POS(Point of Service) Screen, I took a quick gander at the bar set up and thought«how the f^ck am I going to reach those bottle in a skirt… Oh sheeeiit they make fancy pants Craft Drinks from hell!»… Thankfully all the bartenders were a good 5″ taller than me, Their small size Ninja Barbacks didnt wear a skirt and could climb like spiderman and my smiling bartender to the left called«Wang»(last name) was a fricken boss with those Craft Drinks! Cool. When the actual evening began to turn into a club atmosphere… I felt the music definately set the mood to «Turn up»(I feel stupid putting that because I’m old)!! I noticed MANY different ethnicities walk through those doors, all of which I noticed was having a great time. The crowd did not seem young, immature and annoying which was definately something I appreciate! I would say the dress code wasn’t limited either because I noticed a few groups looking casual and comfortable but NOT sloppy! When you start a tab at the bar they give you back your card, which is pretty hospitable of them since most clubs don’t give a damn to trust ANYONE like that! «I need an ID, Drivers Liscence, Hair Sample, Blood Sample Mothers Maiden name and for you to sign this, that, here, there… f^ck it sign everywhere»… okay not really but it feels like it! This by the way was a FRIDAY night. The bar seemed to flow smoothly with slinging out drinks, the VIP Tables with Bottles looked like they were having a great time… Apparently at certain times of the night the cocktail staff get on the bar w sparklers and then the bartenders shoot off fricken cannons filled with trash called«confetti»… I just remember being like«what the sh!! t I just made those drinks…» lol Overall I would have to say«CITIZEN» was a great establishment. From the Staff and Ambiance to the Crowd. Please just go in and make your OWNOPINIONS of the establishment. Those reviews I read were unfortunate circumstances during NEWYEARSEVE, which can be helllllll for ANYONE at any given point of time. As for the reviews about being racist, I can only say it fricken cracks me up because they would kick themselves in the ass if they SAW the owners and investors!

I think they only let white people in… I went with my Fiancé and a couple of our guy friends on a Saturday(4 of us total). We were dressed up since we came for a holiday party. There was absolutely no line and it didn’t even look busy at all! They wouldn’t let us in with the whole«too many guys» issue. Okay, if thats your excuse. 2 seconds later, 4 white guys, dressed fairly down(I think a couple were even wearing chucks or tennis shoes!) walk right though without any hesitation! I’ve heard for a lot of people now who have had the same issue with not being allowed in and its always cause of ethnicity. People have left reviews on their Facebook page about it and the managements responses are hysterical! They really are tip toeing around getting in legal trouble like a bar down the street got in(and sadly, I’ve never had an issue with any of my guy friends being able to get in that bar). Citizen seems to discriminates WAY more than any other establishment I’ve ever been to in Dallas. The kicker is, one of the owners is an acquaintance to my friend and they were texting back and forth. When my friends got up front about them not letting Indians in, the owners excuse is the same petty excuse saying he’s indian too so how can they be discriminating. Really?! They keep playing that card which is pretty dumb. Their consistency has proven that they don’t want Indians for sure, and I’m pretty sure it goes beyond to other ethnicities as well. As we were about to leave, a few guy were walking out and said its not worth our time to go in there and that it was really lame and empty. I guess when you’re barely making money for the night, its only logical to turn away paying customers! Needless to say, I refuse to ever try going back there again.

If there is a cheesier bar in Dallas, I’m shocked. Concrete Cowboy, Social House and Kung Fu are all classier than this place and that’s saying something. The bald bouncer is a jerk but he’s probably just following orders from the Australian owner, Mark who should be shipped back to that penal colony he came from and be forced to live with Caitlyn Jenner, the Kardashians and Justiin Beiber. Money can’t buy class.

Great DJ on the Saturdays I went with everything from rap, electronica, & top hits. You’re sure to have fun with the computer operated photo booth in the back. Lots of energy & great crowd, lots of different style. You will see people from all walks of life & cultures. They have a typical club beverage selection — champagne, liquors, beers, & red bulls. A little bit too small in the back hallway area where I’ve sat with table reservations twice. When you’re paying a 2000% markup rate to drink liquor by the bottle in this type of establishment, you’re paying for the ambience & the party. So, it’s tough to say they’ve done a great job to guarantee a terrific situation to the three tables situated outside the hallway leading to the bathroom. However from what I understand if you commit to more bottles upfront then you can reserve a more exclusive table. Overall a great place for any adult birthday celebration(if you’re into that sort of thing)!

This place is the worst place ever. Went at 10 pm and the bouncer said, «you must have some female companions to enter». Thanks but no thanks

Not really my type of place but I met friends here late Saturday night. There was a line but I was let right in. Single, male, Asian so I’m not sure about the racist comments… And it was packed inside. Packed due to the amount of people and due to the actual size of the bar so it’s hard to say they were being selective too. Its pretty small inside. Had a few drinks and they were all normal. They weren’t terrible by any means but they weren’t the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Just your normal drink at your normal price. Didn’t deal with any of the serving staff other than the bartenders but they seemed polite and fun. One of my friends awkwardly tried to dance with one of them and she politely declined… Hilarious to watch. They have a patio out back with a little fire pit type thing and stand up heaters as well. Pretty spacious patio I’d say. People are your«typical uptowners». Similar scene to concrete cowboy I’d say. People dressed nicely and dancing. Oh yeah, and there is some sort of photo thing in the back near the patio. Didn’t check it out but I guess that’s pretty cool and worth noting. Really no complaints about this place — just not my type of bar to frequent. That being said I’d happily go back. Just not all the time.

Don’t bother. It was«bottle service only» and there were literally 5 people inside on a night of torrential downpour and they decided to be selective.

Quick tips: When the club is empty and it’s pouring rain, it is fairly irritating to hear that they only take table reservations. When asked about the logical inconsistency, the bouncer responded that they don’t have authority. I am sympathetic as I hope that is correct and not a racial response, but all I know is we won’t be back to Citizen.

The happy hour is great. Uptown mule and the old fashion is my go to. Also, try the fried chicken. It’s one of a kind and their bartenders can make any drink and replicate any type of food or dessert. The atmosphere is chill with a great crowd. I highly recommend it.

I was next door at Common Table enjoying my salad when I saw a neon lit logo of a dog in a large window. I had never seen this place as I am a regular at the restaurant next door and was delighted when I let my curiosity take over. I walked in on their soft opening and was absolutely taken back by what was behind that beautifully designed black door. The bar was lit up with bottles on their immense shelving and the entire place felt like a home! They had a craft cocktail menu and I ended up trying the Old Fashioned and Monk from Manhattan, my girlfriend had the Minerva and Citizen’s Cup. All VERY great drinks with great flavors for the palate. They have a neat photo booth in the back that’s free and you can send photos to yourself via text. The music and vibe of the entire place felt like an awesome house party and the ambience melded quite well with the experience. There’s also a patio outside if you want to enjoy the outdoors whilst having great conversations with friends. Would HIGHLY recommend it if in your the area of Uptown and want something new!
