Crazy Fish

Sushi and food truck are usually not something that I would entertain, but after my friend has cajoled me and the short line has tempted me, I decided to give Crazy Fish a shot. Even without considering that it’s from the food truck, the sushi from Crazy Fish is pretty good!
My choices were the geisha roll and spicy crab roll, which are essentially the crab rolls except with different seasonings and sauces. The spicy crab roll was actually really spicy and the geisha roll was an amazing flavorful experience. I thought these rolls are better than some established sushi restaurants. Each roll piece was packed and after I caught them using Blue Diamond brand nuts instead of the generic brands, I knew Crazy Fish was serious about delivering quality sushi.
Of course as a food truck, the sushi is expensive even by sushi standards. Almost all the rolls including the basic California roll is $ 8.50 for an order of 8 pieces, so you might as well get the special ones. However, I think it’s worth trying a special roll from here, and while I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to get sushi here, I think Crazy Fish is a good choice especially if the other nearby food trucks just don’t particularly appeal to you.

Always a great choice when its hot outside to have a snow cone… so this time I asked for light on the syrup… which they did… so I went back to add a little more… she handed back and it was flooded with syrup! Really? Next time I won’t ask…

Crazy fish sells good sushi however the price can get high and the wait can get super long (especially when standing up in the heat).
Rolls usually have 8 fairly sized pieces that are around $ 11/​roll. They have good sushi that will satisfy any hunger during a day out at the park. Service is normal, nothing out of the ordinary. I wouldn’t specifically go out of the way to eat at this place unless I feel like eating sushi and am already at Kylde Warren Park.

Really shouldnt have ordered sushi coming to Dallas. The wait was endless (the line + waiting for the sushi) and the food wasnt good at all.

Enjoyed a Crazy Caterpillar roll in the park. Sweet and creamy with a little kick from the Sriracha sauce.

Omg, the service was TERRIBLE. No one smiles, no one says «thankyou», everyone looks MISERABLE working there and has a terrible attitude, the list goes on… After parusing the menu and everything that’s NOT available, I read about chicken dumplings and thought, «Awesome! I’ll get that, with the butterfly roll, and a snow cone for my kiddo… That should fill us up». After waiting a VERY long time to get to the window and still waiting over 3 minutes for someone to even acknowledge me or let me know that they are ready to take my order (because they were clearly shoo-​ing people away that they weren’t ready for) I wing it, and walk up to the window and request an order of chicken dumplings. Before I can get to my next order, I’m cut off and told that the chicken dumplings are not available that day either. Disappointed, I go ahead and still order the sushi roll and snow cone. As I’m waiting patiently for my order to arrive, (are they going to bring it out to me? Give me a number? Call my name?) I see someone else that ordered before me go back to the window to get their snow cone, low and behold– the man that was taking orders and swiping credit cards with no gloves or anything, is the one who hands her the snow cone and he has the MOST DISGUSTING nails/​hands… His nails are longer than mine (I’m a female) and has all kinds of nasty dirt lodged underneath them… For a second, it felt like a horror movie, or perhaps a reality TV show to test my boiling point. I must say, I’m glad it’s all over now, and the sushi wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either. I still cringe over that snow cone though.
All to say, I was very displeased with my experience and will be going to another food truck next time we visit Klyde Warren Park… It’s a shame that they allow such «frowned upon service» at such a nice park.

The fish is really good! Overall, the sushi roll is fresh with good flavors, but just a little saucy. Worth the stop if they are in your area.

Raw fish out of a truck seems very ew to me. I was put at ease though when I saw they were just serving «sushi» aka specialty rolls covered in more ew-​ness. Typically those have small amounts of raw fish anyway and are less risky in my mind than full on nigiri or sashimi.
With an open mind I gave it a shot and took off sushi snobbery hat. Practically everything had avocado in it! What a cheap way of bumping up the stuffing! Plus, the gross avocado flavor overwhelms everything else.
Ugh, forgot to take the hat off. Let me try again. The truck had pictures of the rolls, so I of course picked the the butterfly roll since it was depicted with purple rice.
What a sham! No purple rice at all! Not to mention there was an agonizing wait for it which could have been avoided if they pre-​made the rolls slightly ahead of time. It comes in a plastic box after all like it was off the shelf at a grocery store.
Let me tell you though, I have never seen a prettier sushi roll come out of a truck than this one. Maybe that’s why it took so long! Somebody back there was slaving away making the spicy mayo lines and sriracha dots perfectly symmetrical. The actual rolling job was incredible. Not once was I scared for a piece to fall completely apart.
Pretty looking rolls for $ 10 may dupe me again as long as there are pretty pictures to look at…

Worst sushi experience ever!!! And it’s too bad because the sushi isn’t half bad! I walked down Katy Trail to Klyde Warren Park. Needless to say I was starving! When I got to the crazy fish food truck, there was a line of 20 crazy high school students. I turns out they also sell sno cones… which is maybe what they should stick with… When I finally got to order, I ordered the spicy CrAB. When my order came out, it had no ginger… I asked for ginger and THEY DON’T HAVE ANY. I didn’t realize my spicy crab was actually spicy tuna until I sat down. It was really pretty good sushi, but I ask you, what is sushi without ginger??? Is it just me? Crazy fish… Maybe sno cones are your thing!

Be prepared to wait. And wait. And wait. And then wait some more. But for all of that, Crazy Fish sushi was definetly worth the wait.
I trekked over to Klyde Warren Park for a weekday lunch and there were about 4 – 5 different food trucks selling mostly sandwiches. Most of the food trucks had long lines of about 15 – 20 people, so the shortest line (1 – 2 people) at Crazy Fish seemed like the most efficient option. Although I could order my food quickly, I probably waited about 20 minutes before I received my order.
Enough about the wait. Let’s talk sushi. The lady and I split the Crunchy Philly Roll and the Bitchy Snake roll that were enormous (relative to other sushi rolls) and very good too. True to its name, the Crunchy Philly Roll had salmon, avocado, cream cheese and it was topped with crispy/​salty onion strings that were a surprisingly good addition to the typical «philly roll». The Bitchy Snake was also really good — although somewhat spicy hot — and had a good mix of smoked salmon and crab with a «kick» from the spicy mayo, jalapenos, and sweet chili.
Given the high quality food, I guess I should not complain too much about the wait. Three stars for efficiency and five stars for food. definetly

Loved this place! My husband and I were hesitant to order Sushi off of a food truck, but we are really glad we did! The rolls are large and full of fish. Great for the vaule. I have ordered Sushi is swanky resturants where you did not get as much fish as was on these rolls and paid almost twice as much. Their washabi is very tasty and carries a lot of kick!
Granted, the atmostshere is different. If the park is busy, you will wait some time for your order. These food trucks get quite busy, very busy if it is a beautiful day outside. But to me, the sushi is worth the wait, especially for the price. What could be better than to enjoy a great meal while sitting outside watching the kids play.
Make sure to try the dessert rolls. The smores roll is to die for!
We have now been back to this truck about 5 times now and looking forward to going back again.

I love sushi. I mean, really love it. It is the perfect food and if I could have it on tap every day then I would, so it is no shock that I had to try out a roll. At first glance, I did not see anything that really caught my eye beyond the evil S’mores Roll. That thing sounds like crack and a diabetic coma waiting to happen and unfortunately I could not convince my cousin who has no form of a sweet tooth to try it with me. For real, it is made with a chocolate chip cookie, marshmallow, and milk chocolate topped with Oreo Cookie Crumbles, marshmallow fluff, and butterscotch sauce. When I find a willing participant, I will have to try this. Instead, I ordered the Spicy Tuna. Let me say that not only did I get fast service, but it was really tasty. While it was not the best I’ve ever had, I was impressed and was happy with the $ 8 price. I will definitely be hitting this truck up again and trying some of their other offers.

Got to try a couple rolls from these guys recently and they were pretty good. They’re not stingy with the size, so at $ 8 per roll, it’s an affordable sushi option.
My first roll was the B***** Snake (ridiculous that they use profanity on their menu… drops them a star right away), which was stuffed with three different meats and had a nice amount of spiciness. The second was the Crunchy Philly, which had great texture, but nothing special in the taste department. They also have a variety of signature sauces you can try; the eel sauce is very rich and tasty.
The worst part was the wait… 45 minutes for two rolls. Granted, there was a long line, but this would eliminate them as an option for lunch in my book. And considering the menu is limited (basically only three types of meat: salmon, tuna and crab), three stars is about right. But yeah, they drop to two for the profane menu.

Good sushi? Yes, and a great concept for a food truck. An out of this world food truck? Not so much. While I enjoyed my sushi roll here at Crazy Fish, I can’t say it’s a new favorite when you have so many fantastic food truck options here in DFW.
Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere?
While it’s a food truck, which makes for a tough scenario as far as giving your customers a friendly and welcoming environment, the staff at Crazy Fish really are excellent. You’ll be greeted by warm smiles and your food will come out quickly. You can’t ask for much more than that. Star Granted.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
Sushi is damn near a luxury item these days for some reason, and food trucks charge premiums on top of premiums, so I wasn’t surprised when my eight-​piece ‘Angry Crab Roll’ came out to be $ 8.00. Have a look —
A bargain? No. but fair. Star Granted.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
I’ve become a bit of a sushi snob as of late, and to be honest that may not be to the benefit of my review here. The angry crab roll has crab, avocado, sriracha, spicy mayo, jalapeño, and black pepper. That’s a great combination, but unfortunately my angry crab roll here suffered from sauce overload that crops up so frequently these days. With all those fillers, you’d think I would have some serious flavor in the mix, but in this case, there was so much spicy mayo that my entire roll tasted like… well… spicy mayo. It wasn’t bad, but I’ve had much better sushi. Single Star Granted.
Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?
I love sushi, and I love food trucks, but I’m not necessarily sure I’m sold on the combination. Good, but not great. No Star Granted.

We had a spicy crab roll at Klyde Warren Park. It wasn’t bad but nothing special either and was rather pricey ($ 8) considering the other options that were available at the park including Gandolfini’s, Nammi, and Reslish. We got the sno-​cone with several flavors as well which was really good and a nice refreshment on an other-​wise hot and sunny day, but that too was quite pricey ($ 5) for essentially ice, sugar and food coloring. There are better food truck options out there.

The only reason that I am not giving Crazy Fish 1 star is because the girls who opened this up had a lot of guts to start a foodtruck… that serves sushi… in Dallas.
I love the concept, but lets be real here — we don’t live in Los Angeles and our weather gets disgusting. The last thing I want to do when temps hit 80+ is eat sushi out of a metal box.
I tried out Crazy Fish one afternoon when they were parked in the arts district and it was disappointing. Not only was the selection lacking, it was pricey and came out warm… and I didn’t order hot rolls. It was also extremely slow — took about 20 minutes to get 1 roll and there was only 1 person in front of me in line.

I was excited to see Crazy Fish parked with the other trucks at Klyde Warren Park on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and I went straight to them for my lunch. Shortly after 11 a.m. there was no line at all. I ordered the Crunchy Philly, and it was good! Not the best sushi I’ve ever had, but I figured as much going into it as it is made in a food truck. The flavors were really nice (a play on the classic Philly Roll, adding a few other ingredients, including avocado and fried onions), and the fish was decently fresh. I enjoyed the crunchy fried onions on top. The best thing was the price; only $ 7 for an 8-​piece roll.
They also offer edamame and fried dumplings, which I’ll probably try next time. You can also get any roll tempura fried for an additional $ 1.50, for those who like their sushi to be de-​healthified.
I’d definitely try Crazy Fish again.

On a recent venture to Klyde Warren Park, we stopped to get a bite at one of the many food trucks that lined the street beside park. There were several options, but me, being a fish freak, wanted to choose Crazy Fish. It was a good choice!
I must warn you, the wait is particularly longer than the wait at the other trucks, but they are rolling fresh sushi, so you should expect that.
They have a good variety of sushi options. I had spicy tuna, and some type of Texas Roll that was spiked with extra heat. They were both good. They have a variety of sauces outside of the truck that you can choose from, plus a nice variety of sodas and other beverages to indulge in.
The sushi was real good. The people in the truck were friendly and helpful. Plus the location of the truck on that day made it awesome! Fresh sushi on a nice day in the park. Very convenient! Stop by and order a roll if you are close by and hungry!

My first visit to (and first sight of) Crazy Fish was at the Dallas «Truckstock» event at Sylvan Thirty in late May. There were almost 20 trucks there, and I’d tried a number of them, so Crazy Fish seemed like a good one to try something new. As I arrived at the window and looked at the concise-​yet-​yummy menu, I saw the lovely, smiling Tenielle («the creator» according to their website). I had used this line on truck vendors before because of their often small menus, trying to seek out the best choice, but it has never quite went this way before:
Me: «What do you have that you’re proud of?»
Her: (without a moment of hesitation) «Are we talking about food, because if we’re not, I’m particularly proud of my eyes»
Wow. Touché, Tenielle. Why, yes, they are quite beautiful, I agree. :)
However, about the food, since that’s really what we’re here for, she went on to suggest the TNT roll, a tuna roll which featured jalapeño and sriracha for spice. While my food was being prepared, I looked over their sauces, which Tenielle should also be quite proud of. In addition to the usual wasabi, soy and sriracha, there were some unique items featuring ginger, orange, sesame and other ingredients. I took a sample of a couple of them with my roll and headed to a nearby picnic table.
The packaging and presentation of the roll was very nice and neat in a plastic two-​piece with a clear lid and a sticker featuring their brand (they’ve done a great job with branding in general, with good graphics and products). Me and a friend began to devour the contents therein. I’ll state up front that my only real complaint was that the rice-​to-​filling ratio was a little high in some of the pieces (i.e.too much rice, too little filling), but most were a little more balanced. The good news is that the filling was fresh and packed a good flavor, and those sauces were an excellent accompaniment. The tuna was moist, the veggies were crispy and the rice was soft without being mushy.
In addition to rolls, Crazy Fish has a variety of chips in flavors you’ve probably never heard of; I’ll try some on another visit.
The bottom line here is that Crazy Fish can provide a respite from the often, shall we say, more «nutritionally challenged» food trucks that often appear in these events, and you’ll get a smile from Tenielle and Cheryl that’s just the icing on the, er, sushi. Give ‘em a try!
