Delta Charlie’s Bar and Grill

I was going to be in Dallas for a few days, and was looking for something to do. Bought a coupon on Groupon. Showed up at the appointed time, was met by Cindy, the owner of the restaurant, very nice lady. She took good care of us. We started off with a couple glasses of wine, then met our pilot, Jake. Very capable pilot. Took us out in his Cessna 172. I see where some reviewers thought they were cramped in the back. Well lets be honest, this is not a G5 Gulfstream, space is limited. And so was the price. We took a 30 minute or so flight around the Dallas metroplex at sundown. Jake showed us the town and mentioned several of the highlights. A good entertaining flight. Clear evening and great visibility. Had a great time.
Returned to Delta Charlie’s and finished off with another glass or two of wine and a good dinner. I had the New York steak, my wife had the Tilapia. Steak was cooked the way I ordered it (rare) and the fish was cooked as ordered. Tasty… Cindy’s brownie dessert was really very good as well.
Overall, this is a must do if you have the chance. Good adventure, kind, gracious, and hospitable hosts. Nothing fancy, just a good time.

Surprised my boyfriend with dinner flight package. We had our flight first it was about 20 minutes very smooth, we really enjoy our pilot JAKE. He was nice and funny, he explained everything to us. The food was good, dessert was the best part! Overall we had an amazing experience! Thank you Delta Charlie’s!

Horrible experience trying to use a voucher purchased online. Customer service at this place is the worst I’ve encountered. We will not be going here and will discourage anyone we know to avoid this establishment at all costs.

I bought a package on Travelzoo that consisted of a 3 course dinner and fight. I booked for December 19, 2015 and my review is honest and from someone who works in the travel/​hospitality industry for many years.
I had to change my time of our reservation a couple of times and the company did this without any questions and reconfirmed the day before.
We arrived right at our flight time and the young lady who greeted us was so nice and pleasant. She took us to our table and ask us if we wanted something to drink. You get to take the drink up in the flight if you like. The drinks are strong.
Shortly we met our pilot Alex who was great. He walked us out to the plane and explained what was going to happen and offered to take our picture. After pictures we boarded the plane, both of us in the back seat. Each flight is done with only the couple and no others. Once buckled up and headphones on Alex explained what was going to take place and the basic flight path. What an incredible way to see Dallas! Alex answered all of our questions and had a great personality.
Back on the ground we sat back at our table and ordered dinner and a drink. We both picked the Filet Mignon and yes it has an up charge but it was so worth it. The filet was cooked perfectly and the sides of mash potatoes and grilled veggies are just delicious. It is a full meal with large portions and we left full. For dessert we orders the cheesecake and the brownie with ice cream, both are very large portions and so very good.
Overall this night was special and more than I was expecting after reading other reviews. But I only paid $ 125.00 on Travelzoo for this evening. Just a Christmas lights flight (does not included downtown views) runs normally $ 100 from other vendors so this was a great deal.
Staff: the ladies who work the dinner and bar are very friendly and funny. If you go in with a great attitude you get the same in return.
Meal: food was very good
Flight: incredible with downtown Dallas all lit up at night.
I can only assume those who left poor reviews went into the experience expecting Ruth Chris steakhouse style food and service. Delta Charlie’s is very similar to the tv show Wings in set up and service. Very simple and down home friendliness. Yes a couple of items have an up charge and they should as you are getting a much better piece of meat.
In the end we had a night of our lives but we can afford to do something that is outside the normal box of experiences. Don’t book this if you are not in a position to splurge a little. This is truly an out of the ordinary experience that most people would never think of doing. I personally think this is a great concept.
My only negative I can even type is that they don’t serve Sangria. I would defiantly recommend to everyone I know and will be experiencing it again at sunset in the future.

Caution!!! Danger!!! Stay away! Do not go here! By far this establishment is the most irresponsible and careless ran business I have ever gone to. Our pilot was a rookie flying on a night with high wind. The flight should have been rescheduled. I was scared for my life. I contacted and complained to their email and did not receive a response. If you have a death wish then feel free to schedule a reservation. You have been warned!!!

Well worth the value. Me and my wife’s steaks were cooked perfect. I asked for rare/​medium rare and my wife regular medium rare. They looked the same on the outside, but were just what we wanted cutting into them. The drinks were strong. Be careful with the Manhattan or you will be walking sideways. Our pilot Jake was awesome. He answered all our questions in the air and on the ground. The only negative was we were rescheduled twice to different days, but they were both b/​c of that crazy rain we had at the end of October so who can I really get mad at for that? Highly recommend doing it. Great for a date!

If I could review the dinner and flight separately, I would give the dinner a 3 and the flight a 5.
I read reviews before making the reservations here and that helped because I had an idea of what to expect (or what not to expect). This is definitely place where you pay for the view, or the experience. I would definitely recommend this if you can keep that in mind.
The restaurant itself looks like a diner so I can see how people would be upset if they were expecting fine dining. The food came out pretty quickly and although I wouldn’t say it hit the spot, we did finish both plates. As for dessert, I would recommend the strawberry cheesecake. The brownie in the brownie sundae was hard. I asked for water when we were first seated and had to ask three more times until I finally got it at the end of our meal. Surprisingly for a full bar, a couple of our drink requests were turned down because they didn’t have the ingredients.
As for the flight, we had an amazing experience! Jake was our pilot and he did a great job explaining what to expect, safety procedures as well as his background in flying. He also talked to us throughout the whole flight letting us know what we were seeing below. We had a 9pm flight and enjoyed seeing the city lit up.

About two weeks ago I took my girlfriend to Delta Charlie’s for dinner. I made my reservations through Groupon. The flight was worth it but not so much the food though because of my girlfriends main course (fish). Since it was through Groupon, you get a pre ordered menu. My NY strip steak was cooked how it should be (medium rare) but my girlfriends fish was too salty! They added a bit to much cajun seasoning. There are a total of six main courses and the best part. dessert. I recommend the strawberry cheesecake! Our pilot Alex was a cool dude. It takes about five mins to get in the air. The flight itself is about a good twenty five minutes. I’ve never flown before and I was a bit nervous but Alex was really chilled and I was comfortable the whole time. I recommend making reservations towards the evening.

Great experience! Purchased Groupon for dinner and flight to surprise my boyfriend for his birthday. We had our dinner before the flight. I had the steak and potatoes with a side salad and cheese cake for dessert. The food was pretty good. Our pilot was great, very informative and made us feel comfortable. The flight was awesome! It was during the day, so we could see Dallas for miles. I would definitely recommend.

Took my boyfriend here yesterday for this 25^th birthday. He’s always loved planes so I decided to surprise him with dinner and a flight over Dallas! Our pilot was amazing. He made sure we knew what was going on the whole time (before take off, during the flight, and landing). He even let my boyfriend fly the plane for a little bit… he was in absolute heaven!
We had dinner after the flight. We both got Caesar salads, strip steaks and I got pineapple upside down cake while he got strawberry cheesecake. The food was okay… not as bad as the reviews make it sound, but not amazing.
Overall a great experience and now I’ve created a monster because all my boyfriend wants to do is goto flight school!

Do not recommend!!! I wish I had read my reviews before booking my Groupon here. This review is based on the three course dinner flight date on Groupon sold for $ 139. Bottom line… A rip off. A lot of hidden charges, a pilot and waiting staff that appear to have a disdain for their job. Do not order the Fillet mignon. It will be overcooked despite your request, you will pay $ 12 extra. It is not one of the meals listed as part of the Groupon package (though discreetly hidden). You will also pay a $ 50 flat rate if you were looking for a specific date within the next few months. Oh! Then there is an $ 18.00 «FLIGHT/​DINNER» tax!!! Okay… But then of course, you expected to pay for your $ 15 drinks x 2 before you fly, right? I wouldn’t even rate this place with ONE star, if it wasn’t for the flight.
The Flight. Cool to be up in the air. But not a guided tour. So *hopefully* you are used to seeing Dallas from a birdseye view… and hopefully you already know what you are looking at from an aerial view! The pilot, as with the rest of the staff seemed hot and agitated. Much like a taxi driver… Leave him alone and give him a tip! Overall, hot bumpy ride with no A\C. I hope you drank your martini and did not eat before riding!
A great tip to the businesses who care to excel… Great service and hospitality go a long way with customers! I wouldn’t even be writing this had I not paid $ 100 in extra hidden fees and taxes! Be upfront with your customers and care about your job! Now that is service with a smile. :)

This was an experience to remember… for all of the wrong reasons. My wife and I signed up for the flight and dinner and duly turned up at the bar and grill. We was met by Trina, the server, who was delightful, and seated at our table for pre flight refreshment. She looked after us well both before and after our flight. That was as good as it got.
We was met by our pilot, Jake, who met us with testosterone, arrogance and a good amount of over confidence. dangerous qualities for a pilot. On entering the aircraft we saw a handwritten notice taped to the rear of the co plots seat. It read «Tips are not compulsory, neither are smooth landings». Humour or a threat? During the flight we listened to a constant stream of how good a pilot he is and criticism of other pilots and students. He also asked about my wife and I and said «Surely she is not that special». A comment I chose to ignore considering the circumstances. The flight over we went on to the bar and grill.
We was «greeted» by the duty manager, Tabitha. She was overbearing, bullying, over familiar and could often be heard behind the bar swearing. She walked around the bar and interjected into peoples private conversations including ours. I was telling my wife that I loved her and Tabitha joined in the conversation with, «I love you too» and walked off.
In another incident she picked up my wifes’ purse and secreted it in her blouse stating «I have always wanted one of these», referring to the brand.
The meal continued along the same disappointing route. My wife returned her steak 3 times until it was cooked to the way that she had requested in the first place. Both my wifes steak and my own was tough.
This was an experience to remember and to never do again.

Great date night! Truly an experience you won’t forget! The food was good. I had the steak and was very impressed. Our wait staff was very friendly and our pilot was very friendly as well. Everything was explained of the events for the night and well organized. We had the dessert which was a chocolate brownie. Definitely made the night end well! This was a gift for my boyfriend for his 30^th birthday! Everyone was impressed with our Facebook photos! You won’t be disappointed!

Don’t read the reviews before you go because it’s all true and it might ruin your experience. Just go with a clear mind, open heart and low expectations. Food will not hit the spot, but those long islands will! Took my brother here for his 21^st birthday. He liked the drinks.
Mmmhm food. I’m pretty sure I was food poisoned after eating here because the next morning I experienced WW3 on the john.
I think this establishment needs more work. The staff is really friendly… minus our pilot. Who didn’t seem to like her job very much. Idk man. That whole night was just awkward.

Bought this for my boyfriend’s birthday. After a few reschedules due to weather, which is a little disappointing but we understood, We finally got to fly last night. We checked in amd ordered a moscow mule at the bar and found a table and ordered our meal. There was a no show, so we were asked if we wanted to fly at the sunset time. We jumped on that opportunity quickly, and I highly recommend the sunset time. Brent was our pilot and was super great. The boyfriend got to sit up front, which made his night. The views were spectacular, we got to see Dallas in a while new light. This is something we will always remember. The steaks were cooked amazing. Couldn’t have asked for a better night.

I have never been so disappointed with a dinner experience. I just wasted a evening here. I surprised my husband with the «30 minute» flight and «dinner». We arrived 15 minutes before our flight, we waited 20 minutes before we were taken to the plane. We flew for 15 minutes and in all seriousness didn’t get anywhere near Dallas. As seen in uploaded picture.
Once we landed we were seated quickly and our orders were taken. At this point I started to look around. Do your self a favor and look around. Everything was the same. My salad was bagged lettuce with the exact Cesar dressing that chick-​fil-​a uses. Feel free to research my findings. I feel I paid for more than that.
Now on to our main course. Every side of vegetables were the same veggies that were mixed in with my pasta. Extremely over cooked and soggy, like they were thawed and then microwaved. My lemon caper sauce was non existing on my gelatinous mound of pasta that would not even separate when using my fork. I seriously had to cut it with my knife to take a bite. And this is just my dinner. My husband had the NY strip steak and ordered it medium rare. When it came out it was grey and soggy! He took one bite and spit it out. It had the consistency of chewing gum. His veggies were over cooked as well.
This is where we stopped. We sent the food back. The hostess came over and asked if she could help. I told her what we had experienced and she was understanding. She went to talk to the owner who didn’t come over or even make eye contact with us. I could have understood if they were busy, however there were only 5 other tables who were eating at the same time we were.
I was so upset I was shaking. This whole experience took less than an hour. I called the next day for a refund and I talked to Hailey. She was very sympathetic and understanding. She is the only positive fron this situation. I am now waiting to hear from the owner to see IF he decides to give us a refund.
My business is based of reviews so I know how detrimental a bad review can be. I would not have reviewed so harshly if they had worked harder to rectify our situation. I understand that people and business have off days. My reasoning for the refund is that we did not get what we paid for (all $ 250). And we still had to send more money on an edible dinner and movie. Just so we could salvage a evening, considering we had a babysitter and you don’t just give up an evening when you have sitter…

9/​26/​2014-​Okay, so I was very skeptical about this place after seeing all of the mixed reviews. I bought the deal on Groupon, I thought it would be a good surprise for my Fiancée’s 25^th birthday. Something different, and out of the realm of bars.
My fiancé LOVED it! Money well spent in my opinion. Service was on point, and food was delicious. I would definitely go again!
Note: They do charge taxes on the Groupon which was about $ 18 and change. Plus, tips are appreciated for the pilot.

I purchased a groupon for a 3 course dinner and 30 min flight around Dallas. Arrived a bit later than the recommended hour and half before flight time and they were fine. Delta Charlie’s is a pretty casual place and there were not many people in there (I think because of their location at a very small airport) more of a bar vibe but we did not know that until we got there. Groupon sold it as a very romantic date
Things Groupon does not tell you
1. $ 20 tax added to your meal you have to pay outright for. Not included with groupon purchase.
2. You are supposed to tip your pilot. Maybe that’s common knowledge but I did not know.
Food was actually pretty good. We had the Caesar salads and the ribeye and they special made the chicken dish for me because of an allergy. Service was a bit slow but very nice and made some very tasty and strong mixed drinks.
They allow you to take to go cups on the plane! Woot. View was very nice during the flight but get a later flight (after 9) or they won’t take you by the skyline due to other flights out of DFW. Plane is very small but feels completely safe, seats ARE tight even for normal sized people so be aware of that. Also, as you would expect it is quite the step up to get into the plane so avoid heels if you think you may fall. We had terry who was an awesome pilot who offered to take our picture before the flight as well. Overall, fun experience. Would recommend. Only reason it was not 5 stars is because of the hidden tax.
