Now named Tacos Chaco, this is authentic mexican food at a wonderful price! The service is fantastic but if you don’t speak any Spanish you might have some trouble, but hey there’s always Google to assist you if you need it. The food is delicious and their horchata is the . I hate 3 tacos– 2 of pastor and 1 chorizo. All equally appetizing.

This is not EL Fatfish anymore… It is a noname Mexican food place that it is very homy or casero. The lady that waits seems to be the owner and she is extremely nice. I ordered the seafood soup and although the broth was not that bad, it had a lot of Kami(fake crab), Crawfish(fresh water) and very few shrimp or real seafood items. I truly recommend not ordering that. The other items were very mexican, not bad but not incredibly good. Will I go again? I don’t think so. But I wish them well again the service was great the lady was so nice.

I am Mexican and this is not authentic Mexican food. Waiters are rude, the owner is awfully rude, she doesn’t care about service, they don’t take credit cards, the food is expensive for how much they give you. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. There’s many other places to go to where they care about customer service and serving good food.

My new favorite! The restaurant was small and clean and the guy that waited on us(manager? owner? all-around-great-guy?) was super friendly. The food came out hot, fresh, and amazing! Tacos were so good(bistec and campechano were my favorite), and my gentleman friend’s carne asada was absolutely delicious. Other friend had a torta and OTHER other friend had the Vuelva A La Vida(looked like a seafood cocktail) which he loved. And the price was right! I can’t recommend this place enough.

What an outstanding dive! Everything served hot and fresh — Barbacoa lingua tacos, shrimp tostadas are excellent. Salsa is the bomb. Service here is very friendly. We’re not locals, but we have El Fatfish on our ‘places to eat’ list when we’re in the Metroplex.

Really good authentic Mexican food. Do not come here for the ambience. It’s 45degrees and 45 degrees inside this place. The utensils were placed on the raw table and not wrapped in napkin. Good hole in the wall for a quick bite of authentic.

I’ve ben on a TACO kick lately(you will come to realize this from the string of Mexcian restaurants I’m about to review). VENUE: This place seems like an almost hole-in-the-wall. It’s kind of small, so I don’t recommend coming in groups larger than four. It’s very casual and although my table was probably the only one in the joint that didn’t speak much(if any) spanish, we didn’t feel uncomfortable. FOOD/DRINK: Came here wanting some authentic Mexican tacos. This place delivers. We ordered one of each and none of them disappointed. The meat to tortilla ratio was just right(not goozing out once you pick it up but firmly packed). Meat was tender and flavorful. If you like spicy food, try the red salsa(not the one they serve with the chips but the one in the bottle they keep refridgerated). It’s got a nice subtle kick. And if you’re picky like me about tap water, this place serves good tap water. SERVICE: Our server was very nice and patient even with a slight language barrier. Had tiny miscommunication about those many tacos we actually wanted to order… but they were good tacos… so really it was a win win that we ordered twice as many as we wanted.

Spanish for«The Fatfish», El Fatfish is a damn good taqueria. It’s in a very Mexican area, so be prepared to spend a little more effort than usual in communicating, but the food is worth it. Great seafood — El Fatfish isn’t just a name, apparently. Cheap, too!

Great find in the hole-in-wall category but still clean and neat. Have been here twice and the food is terrific and very fresh. Not your refried beans kind of TexMex. Try the fish tacos or tacos al pastor… excellent. Also the chips and salsa are great, The chips are nice and thin and the salsa is moderately spicy… just right for most folks. Prices are a bargain. You may or may not get a waitress who speaks English but the menu is bi lingual.

We wanted a quick meal to go and decided to give the place a whirl. We ended up dining in once we realized we were the only patrons doing so; we did manage to get in and out in just under an hour. El Fatfish is nestled in a strip mall next to the supermarket; the dining room is essentially no frills. Not a problem in my book, though I did wish they didn’t have the mop/broom out in plain view… and that the sauce bottles were a little cleaner. There is a very authentic, familial feeling to the place — the Spanish soaps playing on the TV added to the atmosphere. Our server was very nice. She didn’t speak much English and I probably gutted many a pronunciations but we laughed together as I took stabs at it. The food came out quickly and there was really no wait between courses. Once you’ve finished your meal, you go to the register and pay. I sampled the shrimp tostada, guacamole, pastor taco, de pollo taco, bistek taco and a fish taco. On a scale of 1 – 5 with 5 being awesome and 1 being«no thanks.» Tostada(2): small veined shrimp/too many onions/wasn’t a fan Guacamole(2): tomatoes, cilantro, avocado/simple flavor profile/okay De Pollo(2): served on a corn tortilla/decent flavor/small taco Bistek(2): corn tortilla/meat was a little dry/not much flavor/okay Pastor(2): corn tortilla/moist meat/flavor okay/small taco Fish Tacos(3): flour tortilla/chopped fish, grilled onions & peppers/moist/flavorful If you’re looking for an okay meal for around $ 10, pop in for a bite.

me and my boyfriend came here to eat on November 15th2013… and I ate a lot of Mexican food but this is one of the best. the shrimp and fish soup was off the hook. seasoned just right and fresh. I just wish the shells was taken off of the shrimp but it’s okay it was good anyway. reasonable price for the goodness of the food. and great friendly service… we will definitely be back

Walked in and to be honest had no clue what to order. I’m a veggie who occasionally eats fish so I asked the sweet girl at the counter what she recommended. She said either the fish platter or the fish tacos. I went with the tacos and holy moly were they delish. The meal included 3 deep fried fish tacos which I’m sure are insanely unhealthy but incredibly delish as well as a large portion of Spanish rice. The salsas that were included were amazing and spicy but they were great on the tacos. I’d absolutely return!

What a great hole-in-the-wall restaurant. I ordered the whole fried catfish dinner. I wasn’t crazy about the deep fried catfish(I guess I was kind of expecting more of a catfish filet). My wife ordered a fish tostada and a bean and cheese gordita. The fish was very good and I think it is very similar to the filling used in the fish tacos. It has a ceviche like taste. As other Unilocalers have pointed out, the service is prompt and friendly. Chips and salsa are good. We liked the horchata, though I don’t think it was true fresh horchata. I think this place should have 3.5 stars.

Take this for what it is — a hole in the wall with great chips and sauce and a simple menu with the basics, done right! Another good find from my Unilocal brethren… Don’t forget to get desert from the grocery store next door — the fresh pastries — yummmm!!!

There’s nothing like revisiting a favorite restaurant after a number of years, only to find it exactly as you left it. A while back a friend asked for a North Dallas taco suggestion, and a little strip mall joint that I’d been to during my college days came to mind. Naturally, and especially after promoting it, I had to go back and make sure I hadn’t just sent someone into a butt-sick trap(get over yourself, you know what I mean). Which is how I found myself sitting at El Fatfish stuffing my face with chips and salsa at 9o’clock the other night. Fatfish was just where I remembered it to be, in the same parking lot as the old Bill’s Records, but I have to admit that I didn’t recall all the cheesy nautical nicnacks hanging on the wall. If you don’t happen to notice the«Mexican Seafood» sign hanging over the door as you walk in, the décor is a dead giveaway. The menu is filled with seafood, traditional Mexican dishes, brunch items(don’t get me started on my plans for future Sundays) and of course, tacos. I ordered myself a couple of barbacoa and pastors, at $ 1 each by the way, and«A» had some fajita and pastor tacos. When our plates came, we swapped one of our fajita and barbacoa tacos with each other(in the interest of fairness), and I gave my plate a healthy dose of the spicy, smokey chipotle sauce our waitress brought to the table. All of the tacos came on single corn tortillas, which I thought might be an issue, but ended up holding their contents in quite well. The pastor tacos were good, with grilled onions mixed in under the fresh onion and cilantro on top. They weren’t necessarily the best I’d ever had, but they got the job done. The fajita taco was very tasty, also cooked with grilled onions, with a very nice marinade and cooked to perfection. The real star of the night, however, was the barbaco meat — literally mouthwatering. With just a touch of sweetness, it was cooked to perfection and contained not even the slightest hint of fat or gristle. It was, in a word, outstanding. Fatfish stays open until 10:00 pm every night except Monday, when they’re closed all day, so it makes a great spot to hit before going out to the bars or after a long study session at UTD. They also take cash OR credit cards, so you won’t have to worry about getting mugged at the bank before you get your taco fill. Moral of the story is this: If you ever find yourself stuck in North Dallas or Richardson, stop by Fatfish for some tacos. You won’t be disappointed.

This place is a simple looking restaurant that serves super cheap good food. Don’t let the looks or area keep you away, this is really worth a try. First off, you get a basket of chips and salsa when you sit down. Look, I’m not the one who typically comments on salsa but wow, it was homemade, spicy and really, really tasty. It might be too spicy for some of you, but if you like salsa with a good kick, this is it. The chips were great as well — crispy and not greasy at all. For starters I had a shrimp tostada. Basically it was a tostada shell topped with sour cream, pico, cocktail-style shrimp that covered the whole shell and slices of avocado. Very fresh tasting. For my meal I had the barbacoa, beef fajita and al pastor tacos on corn tortillas. The barbacoa was on point and tasted great. It was flavorful, authentic Mexican«beef cheek» styled barbacoa complimented by a side of onions and cilantro. The pastor taco was A+ as well and I have to admit I’m usually not an «al pastor person». It was so good that I ordered another one on flour just to give it a try(stick with the corn). The only issue with my meal came with the beef fajita taco. I felt the meat was a bit chewy. Overall, these were great tacos that were a nice size and came with a good amount of meat. The best part is that the tacos were really cheap. El Fatfish also serves several seafood dishes. You might have guessed that based on the name. All looked tempting for a future visit.

Amazing chips, amazing salsa and amazing fish tacos. I read about El Fatfish on Unilocal and how can you not want to go with a name like that. We got there and almost had a change of hear. It is definitely a dive and doesn’t look the greatest from the outside but that is deceiving. Our waitress was very nice and brought us chips and salsa immediately. The chips were warm and the salsa was very good. I wish they jarred it and sold it seperatly. The fish tacos were very good and came with rice. In general I was very impressed and would recommend El Fatfish to any of my more adventurous friends. It is not chain restaurant clean but it is good and a secret mexican food lover hotspot.

El Fatfish, you have officially won my heart! I love you, and I don’t care who knows it. Consistency, this is the name of the game folks. El Fatfish continues to provide awesome food. Ok so Saturday is much a battle for me. Ok, the weekend in general. I like to get up, and not make any sudden movements. This means I lay around in my pjs and watch tv, or maybe do a little housework, and THEN and only then, when my stomach growls at me all crazily, do I drag myself into the shower to get ready to face the world. Well, since breakfast«time» was over, tacos and tortas sounded fantastic. We arrived with only 1 other table in the house. Placed my order for an al pastor torta, 1 barbacoa taco, and 1 fajita taco.(So, if you are playing the at home version, yes, that’s 3 items of food that I planned to eat.) All tacos are only a dollar, with the exception of fajita, which is a buck and a quarter. Oh, and my beloved torta, only 3.99. Tacos arrive shortly, and I like that the corn tortillas aren’t dipped in oil and then lightly fried. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I dig that, but today, with so much on my plate, I wasn’t down for battling 2 tortillas. Here they seem to be tossed on the cooking surface and warmed up, and then topped with your meat. Onions and cilantro followed in tow, and I, a bit heavy handed, poured on the salsa verde. Yuuuum. I ordered my torta no tomato, extra avocado, and voila! Torta magic. I like that they don’t use mayo here. Just your meat, cheese, lettuce, avocado,(tomato) and pickled jalapenos on the side. Pretty much AWESOMETOWN. The warm, toasty bread is so awesome. I still haven’t sampled the seafood fare, because I can’t get away from my tortas! For a short period of time I had a food adventure buddy,(he has since moved back to ATX) but I did get an El Fatfish visit in our short time together. He loved the food, and loved the value, which rightfully summed it up a great meal!(And obviously loved the company: D) Side note: The horchata here is made by a mix. So it’s a bit of a shortcut, but it was still sweet and refreshing.

I tried this place after reading Tricia’s review. I have to agree with everything she said. Yummy pastor torta wasn’t very thick but was larger in diameter than I was expecting and after chips and salsa was filling enough. More avocado in the torta would have made it eve better. Tasty $ 1 tacos; not as greasy as Fuel City but good nevertheless. The green salsa was warm and a little too spicy for me but I can’t handle much heat. I wanted to try the whole fried snapper but was too full after the torta and tacos. One day I will have to try the tongue tacos. I saw many locals ordering the seafood soup so it must be good. Cheapest dinner EVER! :) If you need sour cream for some reason just ask for«crema».

Muahahaha!!! It always makes me so giddy when I find a new place for my work lunch rotation(speaking of which, I need a list for that, don’t I?) Tried out El Fatfish recently on Joe’s recommendation and was not disappointed. I had been to the Cuquita’s many times on the left side of the Fiesta, but never noticed the Fatfish on the other! Dr. S had the torta milanesa and I had a taco al pastor and a beef fajita taco. We both had super yummy horchata(with FREE refills – I think!). Total was 10 bucks. Score. The torta was very tasty. Super basic ingredients(not fancy like Tio’s) but a good, hearty sammtich. I expected it to be bigger based on Joe’s description but it was quite ample. I loved the toasty torta bun. Only complaint was it could have used more avocado. It tasted really good with the salsa verde they gave me for my tacos. My tacos, speaking of which, were delicious. They were the same style as Fuel City, but not quite as good. I daresay they were healthier though(not as much grease/meat juice – you know, the good stuff) but still mighty tasty, and something I would return for often since FC is way too far for work lunch. Despite this, they are mostly a seafood place, selling everything from fish tacos to grilled fish to shrimp cocktail to whole fried fish! And PS the menu has english translations and the waitress spoke english too, for the gringos :)
