Elan City Lights Luxury Apartments

Before moving to Dallas I did extensive research on the surrounding apartment buildings. Élan City Lights was always on the top of my list due to the extraordinary layout, proximity to downtown and the über helpful staff. Not to mention it checks all the «must-​have» boxes for a great apartment.
Stainless appliances – check!
Beautiful counters and floors – check!
Secure parking and entry – check!
We love the downtown view and the overall feeling of the area. A quick walk to great restaurants in the area, downtown and the farmers market. Location can’t be beat.
Noise is a factor in any downtown building, and this is no exception. However, it is something to consider if you’re a light sleeper.
Overall this is a 5 star place. We have loved living here, and appreciate the staff and neighbors. All are top-​tier. I recommend viewing an apartment with Melina, she’s exceptional.

Love living here! We really appreciate the cleanliness of the facilities. It’s very convenient to have the coffee machine in the lobby, and to have access to a nice gym!

Honestly, this community is gorgeous. Jose, the assistant manager, not only took time to show me the entire community, he remembered me from when I called to inquire about the apartment the week before I came to see him. These apartments are exactly where I would like to be. The floor plans are spacious and modern, but any type of furniture or style would work well. The amenities are top notch. If you are looking for a fresh new place, I highly recommend.

The term ‘luxury’ is quite a stretch however I believe my 550 sq foot 1br/​1ba is worth the $ 1200/​mo for a list of reasons.
1. Full washer dryer in unit.
2. City view. Balcony.
3. Location to downtown, Deep Ellum, and all major highways.
4. Saltwater pool, hammock lounge, grills, gym.
5. Carpet only in the bedroom. Granted the rest of the apartment is [awesome looking] linoleum, I just don’t like carpet.
6. Floorplan is GENIUS. Seriously, I don’t feel cramped and this is one of the smallest places I’ve rented.
7. Maintenance team is killer.
8. Office staff is really helpful. All of my concerns (minus the glaring safety issues) have been addressed in a timely manner.
9. My neighbors are all super friendly.
10. Trash service is awesome. Mail service is awesome. Yes they are at additional cost.
In summary, I consider this a good apartment. I hope that over time the safety issues improve because I do enjoy living here.

We walked in and LOVED Élan City Lights. From the lobby, to the staff, to the price, to the amenities… we just knew we had to live there! Joseph was SO helpful! We did continue our search for apartments but immediately went back and signed because nothing compared to our whole experience apartment hunting there.

I had to comment on Élan because me and my girlfriend moved in late October after moving from NJ. From the moment we got here Élan has been nothing but accommodating to us. I read the reviews today on Unilocal and was shocked with some comments and not surprised with others. When people look for an apartment building they are looking for the «perfect» place, sorry but nothing is perfect. I wanted to address a few things as a resident of Élan.
First of all the staff is great! They listen when there is a problem and take action as soon as they can (we all have day jobs, some things are priority over others, this is understandable).
Now to address some complaints:
— The walls are thin: This is not true at all. I have people that live on both sides of me, one person even has a dog, and I never hear either of them. The only time you will hear anything is when someone down the hall is blasting music and you can hear it from the halls.
— You can hear everything on the street: This is true. The hospital is a few blocks away and you can hear ambulances if you face Live Oak quite often. However, its something you learn to live with (back to that «nothing is perfect» concept).
— Construction supplies being stored in the garage: This was a couple of months ago and has since been cleared out. However, I don’t blame Élan for this because they are trying to do their best to finish the apartments.
— Parking: I will agree the parking garage is a bit tight especially when driving around corners to go from one floor to the next. However, I drive a large truck and I have no problems. If you are one of those people who does 40 MPH in the parking garage than yeah you are asking for an accident to happen. As for the paid spots, I’m not sure if this is correct but its $ 50 a month to have a reserved spot. There are only 6 near the doors and there is plenty of other parking for non-​reserved people.
— Guest parking: As far as I know you do not need to pay $ 3 to have your guests parked in the garage AS LONG AS THEY PARK IN GUEST PARKING ON THE TOP FLOOR. Residents don’t seem to understand that their guests cannot park on resident only floors, thus the caps. If you want your guest to park in resident spots than yes they have to pay $ 3 per day.
— Kitchen cabinets/​walls/​Storage: There are two people living in my apartment and we cannot fill the amount of space available in the kitchen cabinets. We had to get creative with where to put pots and pans but you live in an apartment and creativity is required. The walls in the apartment are fairly cheap sheetrock so it crumbles when you try and nail something to the wall (probably my only complaint). There is a closet in the apartments that house the hot water heater and another on the balcony that house the HVAC. This was clearly disclosed to us that both would be locked. If you need extra storage there are storage units on the floor that you can rent which is a blessing.
— Parcel pending: You are not required to get a parcel pending box. This is a convenience for you if you choose to not have packages left outside your door. I personally don’t have one and don’t plan on getting one since I have no problem with them being left outside my door.
— Security: It looks as though Élan has stepped up its game on security. There was a cop sitting outside of the garage yesterday just making sure everything was okay. There is a security guard who walks around. Granted there have been a few instances but these things happen, that’s why we have insurance.
— Power outages: The power has gone out a few times due to storms. it is an inconvenience that there is no backup generator to unlock gates and doors but Élan does a good job at responding to these issues and keeps people up to date with text messages.
— Fire Alarms: Agreed probably the most annoying aspect. The fire alarm has gone off 2 times since we have lived here. Once at 6AM and once at 3AM. Being a new building these things happen due to bad sensors and electrical issues. We have never had to wait longer than 15 minutes to go back inside and not have the alarms going off.
— Elevators: They do go out sometimes. But Élan constantly updates its residents on why they aren’t working and actively trying to get them fixed.
— Cellphone service: Its YOUR problem. Contact your service provider. Élan doesn’t install some cell service blocking device in your house. You live in a very stable concrete building. Cell phone service is bound to be spotty.
If you want a nice, clean, affordable apartment in a prime location, I suggest this place:
I wouldn’t waste my time writing this review if I didn’t believe in it.

And now, insult added to incompetence. Want guests to be able to park remotely close to your apartment? Get ready to cough up another $ 3 a day! Don’t want to pay? Look forward to your guests being towed, regardless of whether or not there’s plenty of available parking. SO LUXURIOUS!

I recently moved to Dallas from Miami. I was a little nervous with all the moving process, but I have found a great home. The staff has been so helpful and welcoming. I love my modern apartment! It’s close to everything and worth the price. :)

I love living at Élan, I had a noise complaint with a neighbor and they did everything possible to take care of it. I love living here so much that I’m signing a new lease today! It’s a convenient location and they have all of the best amenities. One of my favorite parts about living here are the community activities hosted almost twice a month. It gives you a chance to engage with your neighbors and have a little fun right in the comfort of your home.

Absolutely gorgeous! I love living here! After touring with Melina, I received excellent customer service from beginning to end. For a luxury complex, this is exactly the kind of service I would come to expect. Unbelievable top-​notch amenities! I love the view 360 degree view from atop the parking garage. Can’t wait until New Years and the Fourth of July to watch fireworks from there!

We love living here. Our apartment is modern and the building amenities are the best. There is a great gym, awesome pool area and a zen garden with hammocks. We are walking distance from Deep Ellum and down town. We love calling this place our home.

Pros: The place is brand new. Looks really nice. The staff is very professional and helpful, and the maintenance staff is very prompt. The location is pretty incredible. Walking to Downtown, Deep Ellum and a long walk/​short Über to Uptown. For what you are getting, the price is a pretty sweet deal right now.
Cons: The biggest issue is that it is obvious these were built to look nice but not to stay nice. We have had a lot of minor issues (uneven floor, unattached dishwasher, cracked bathroom counter, etc) for a brand new place. That being said, again the maintenance staff is incredible. Other than that, the construction is a minor inconvenience and the parking lot is slightly dangerous. Also, outside noise is a bit problematic on the units facing the street, but that is to be somewhat expected.
Overall, the place is definitely worth paying for. I would recommend it even with the problems we have had. The location, staff and luxury feel for this price makes it worth it.

We moved in this past weekend and it has been great! Our apartment is so nice and homey, and the staff has been sooo helpful with everything. We moved from another state, so it was nerve racking picking an apartment but we have no regrets about our choice. Now we’re just ready for more people to move in so we have neighbors and the construction to be finished :)
