Went back for my birthday weekend, much better than the time before before. The staff was very courteous, kind, and waited on us hand and foot. They did run out of food quickly but made up for it with a different entrée and charged us at a cheaper rate. So we appreciated that. Drinks were very generous, and music was on point. Had a great time all and all.

The place is ok, they have good food and free valet parking which is very convenient. I always come here because it is convenient not because im the #1 fan of this place, they need to step it up a bit food wise. They sometimes have a good jazz group that plays very good. Need more tasty appetizers to give it 4 stars.

I could go either way with this review because I noted some pluses and minuses, but overall, I had a great time, the customer service was excellent. the location is cool. free valet. decent prices. this is a really cool place to go on a saturday if you are out and about and want to chill in a decent atmosphere. we went saturday around 3pm. valet was free. the valet set up is a little weird, but it’s free. when you pull into the garage that says«609 Harwood» you have to wait for a man to come to your vehicle. He comes out of nowhere and valets your car. it was just a weird set up, but it works. if you don’t park in the garage, be prepared to pay 5 – 10 bucks to park in the surrounding lots. apparently they have happy hour on weekends because our drinks were half price. i was excited about that. the customer service was SPECTACULAR. our waitress was Jade. I haven’t seen this level of customer service or customer focus in YEARS. Jade was attentive, timely, focused on us and friendly. If management at Harwood 609 ever reads this, Jade needs to be recognized! the music was my kind of music. they played a variety of soul, r&b and some hip-hop. for the most part, i was dancing in my seat the whole time. it was truly nice to be in a clean, fun, safe black establishment with good customer service. i love to see my people come together in a positive light. so much is going on in our communities, in a negative way. it is refreshing to have a place, a nice place, where we can gather, fellowship and unite. keep up the good work Harwood 609! as for the food… you pay $ 15 which gives you unlimited access to a soul food buffet. I am not complaining about the price because $ 15 bucks isn’t bad for unlimited soul food. actually, that’s a great price when you consider that your valet parking was free :-) however, I was not at all impressed with the food. i was initially excited to see all that they had on the buffet and was expecting it to be like«grandma’s cooking», but it wasn’t. they had collard greens, cornbread dressing, baked fish, baked chicken, salisbury steak, pork chops, ribs, cabbage, candied yams, etc. on the surface, one who likes soul food would get excited. but much of the food was too sweet. nobody in my party was satisfied with the food, but we all want to go back to give it another try just in case this was a bad day. the staff treats you like family. great customer service. convenient location in Downtown Dallas Free Valet Unlimited access to soul buffet Great Music Cheap Drinks I get the sense that this place is a bar and the buffet is just an added bonus. the focus is not the food, but the atmosphere, but the food is a benefit to the customers. if this is the case. 5 stars! I totally recommend this place if you want to have a good time

The Sunday brunch buffet is awesome. Lots of choices. All of those I tried(fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, salad) were delicious. Friendly service, great jazz music, really cool place. Can’t wait to go back.

I went there last Sunday for Brunch… not a good experience At All. Top 10 things to expect when having brunch at Harwood 609: A handwritten sign in the garage entrance telling you to STOP and wait for the valet attendant. If parking across the street, the«valet attendant» waving his hands telling you to let him park for you. A $ 16UPFRONT/at the door, buffet fee. A kitchen attendant wearing a hair bonnet lounged at a nearby table eating chicken. A reeeally dark club-like atmosphere. …To be the youngest guests there… this spot is for ages 50+ Cold wieners… Yes I mean hot dog meat! Store brought cookies. Not the good kind! Moldy scented air freshener in the bathroom. No Bacon and Cold nasty food !!!

Our visit was overall good. The owner, in fact, checked on us. My boyfriend and I had two different servers. We got a discount, because we came at the tail end of the brunch hour. 12 each got us a limited buffet including mimosas and without dessert, which was fine with us. The buffet has fried chicken, chicken fried steak, tilapia, rice, spaghetti, green beans, corn bread, rolls, etc. The taste is average. Stuff you would find at any other restaurant. For us, the live band was not there. The place is cozy, warm, and dimly lighted for the lights on the live band. The décor is a bit out of place for downtown, but I didn’t pay to see décor. The location, price, and food was it. I’m sure it would have been great with the full buffet and live band/jazz music. Overall, good experience after the Dallas Art Museum. Satisfaction high for my visit :)

First and LAST time I will ever go to this so called restaurant. When we got there, it was about 4PM, I and most of my group of 8 women hadn’t been there before. We went on a Saturday evening and we asked the woman at the register if the buffet they advertise was still going on. She told us yes, so we paid our $ 15. The table they sat us at was dirty, even though we had a reservation, and the waitress had to clean it real fast. There was still dirty napkins left on the table from the previous party and we were given a hand full of(supposedly) clean napkins to pass around. When we got up to go to the buffet, some of the plates were still dirty, so we had to fish for a clean one. Then the food was lacking, only like 6 small serving pans of luke warm food. We were starving so we got what we could, which wasn’t much considering the lack of food and the people that paid like an hour ago still picking at it. When our waitress came back to our table, and finished spilling our waters all over us, she promised that there would be more food coming out. We sat and waited and when more food did come out, it was soggy corn in the cob and some microwaved potatoes cut up with cheese melted on top. That’s it. And of course, the people that were there before eating ran to the buffet table like a herd of cows and took most of the food. So, some of us ate very little and some ate nothing at all. One of the ladies in our group went to ask the manager if we could order off the menu to supplement the food we never got from the buffet, since they obviously were not bringing anymore food out. The assistant manager said yes, but the owner actually argued with us, saying we ate some food and he would not let us have our money back or supplement anything off the menu to offset our price. So we got up and left. I will NEVER go here again. It was recommended by one of the ladies in our group and she has been there before, but I don’t think even she will go back. Oh, and by the way, our waitress never came back, because she was having a nervous breakdown in the back because she spilled our waters. Give me a break! She apologized for the spill, It was on the floor, I use to be a waitress, sh*t happens. So, her having a fit, don’t ask me what that was all about, we helped her pick the glasses and ice up, so we weren’t mad at her. Needless to say, half the people at our table never got a drink. And the alcoholic drinks that some of the ladies ordered, never came. Ghetto establishment, with outdated décor and rude owners and wait staff, I will definitely spend my hard earned money elsewhere.

I was really looking forward to going somewhere other than Buttons or Brooklyns, but I was thrown off when I got there by a $ 12 cover charge(Saturday night). I’m not use to a cover that high, but it’s not an issue for a classy place. The classy place was next put into question when I looked around and saw that the décor hasn’t been updated since the 80’s. I can get over this if there is a great food… several people from the group I was with ordered and found that they were out of numerous items on the menu which proved annoying. The food came out pretty quickly but it was underwhelming, so I did not order anything for myself. I can get over all this if they have a killer band, but alas, they had a reject band and performers that I wanted to like because they did play popular music, but they just weren’t hitting the mark. This was noticable because no one got on the dance floor until the band left and the DJ came out. Point of clarification: on the night I went it was R&B music not Jazz… not a big deal to me as I like both, but many might be disappointed that it isn’t jazz. The average age if that matters to you is over 50. On the postive, they did run some drinks specials and they had free valet(big plus). Bottom line: There are just too many other places in DFW to go to waste a $ 12 cover.

Great Lunch stop in downtown! I have only been here for weekday lunch and judging by list of rules as to dress code and behavior for evenings and weekends– I am not sure I would fit in with the rowdy crowd on the weekends. The décor does seem a little jarring when you first walk in– a little loud and somewhat out of place for Dallas(think Miami Vice circa 1980’s). The service has always been extremely good but the best thing is the price! The lunch deals are amazing and usually come with a salad and tea included. If you are looking for a decent meal at a good price, this is definitely a good stop. I have had the Country Fried Steak, Beef Tips and Rice, Grilled Salmon and Turkey and dressing and they were just as good as what you would get at any other casual dining restaurant for twice the price.

I went here for a brunch a bit ago and it was serious down home cooking. I thought the food tasted great, but I just knew how bad for me it was. They had live jazz music while we ate and unlimited mimosas… It reminds me of an old speak easy lounge, which is cool. I didn’t like the rush to pay when I walked in the door… seems like it cut the staff tips and damn if that coffee wasnt cold! It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t super either.

This is a good spot in downtown D. I love the fact that they have free valet service for the ladies, just pull up and get out right at the door. The food isn’t bad and the drinks(at least mines) were right on point for a good buzz. «Change of Pace» with Paul Rogers was playing and I must admit, this guy is one of the best local sax players I have heard. Make sure you go around happy hour or before they start to charge. It is not all that serious to pay over $ 10 to get into this place unless there is a famous person or band. The dance floor is a bit cramped and it does fill up fast.

4 for ambiance, 3 for food. We went there as part of a large lunch party and even though we had reservations, 30 people kind of frazzled the staff a little bit. Once we got the food though, everyone said their meat dishes were delicious. I mixed the side– the roasted potatoes were wonderful, the corn bland, and the yams were sweet, but good. The broccoli casserole was spicy and delicious. FYI all of the non-starch veggies have meat in them. They have dancing and live music as well as poetry reading, etc on various nights.

I really enjoyed 609’s lunch special! My husband and I both ordered the chicken and waffles and it was delicious. At only 6.50 we had more food than we could eat. Their lunch special was $ 5.41 including tax and included soup or salad, spaghetti with meat sauce, two sides, peach cobbler and a beverage. I don’t know about where y’all eat often but that’s more food than you can get almost anywhere. The décor is like some retro Miami beach jazz club. It works for what’s it for. The bar is definitely stocked for a good time. They have nightly live jazz. They often offer a holiday brunch. They have been open for three years and their service was great. The waiters are kind and felt like members of my family. Thursday night is seafood night and ladies eat free until 7pm after that ladies eat for $ 5 and men for $ 8. It’s a great spot for underground concerts and soul music like Eric Roberson and comedy shows like Cedric the Entertainer. I don’t know how it wasn’t pretentious like many spots in Dallas. Definitely put it on your list.

All the brass railings, oak parque stage and icky carpet were outdated. It seemed a bit ‘80s in décor. Drinks were strong.
