Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft

Not sure what the bad reviews are for. I came here yesterday with my hubby and got some fabric and a pair of scissors. The employees were friendly and helpful and the store smelled nice. We spent $ 40 and left satisfied. I’m guessing the hate coming from some people on here has to do with privilege and entitlement since this Jo-Ann’s is in a bougie area. Pay them no mind, imo respectively.

Needed some fabric for a craft project that I was doing so I headed to Jo-ann’s. I was looking for a wide variety of linen for this particular project and wanted to see what they had. They had everything I needed and more! The store is clean and well laid out. The service at the cutting counter was slow and unorganized. They were not going by ticket numbers and seemed to have forgotten that is the system they use. Other than the long wait at the counter everything is grey at Jo-Ann’s.

I repeatedly have a negative experience here but keep coming back due to the convenience of their hours and proximity to where I live. Oh, and their coupons can save me a lot on my sewing supplies. You can expect a long wait at the cutting counter with little to no concern from the staff about it. Once you’ve spent an eternity there, proceed to the check out line where you will spend another lifetime. The staff is usually grumpy and can’t be bothered should you have any questions. I usually find what I need, so no complaints about the product selection. I just wish the process for getting those products was a little faster.

This location is a lot better now, since they remodeled and expanded. Tons and tons of craft items hard to find things and everyday things come on by and get some things.

I’d rate it a zero if the front crew weren’t so chipper. Manager there refused to do a simple task for me. Borderline racism if you ask me. Yes, I’m an wh_​te fart but with no axe to grind. I felt otherwise from the person across from me at the cutting station. They said they couldn’t help me (their product) and that was that. Later, dudes.

I didn’t realize they renovated and expanded the inside until a recent visit. I went in search of iridescent netting and left with a few different kinds of netting and much more!
The renovation is awesome, the place is double the size it used to be which means there is a lot more space to explore all the fabrics. It can almost be overwhelming, how large the selection is! They also have a lot more arts and crafts than they used to have, such as beads and glitter and masks and paints. I can’t wait until my next project, I will definitely be coming back.

I’ve been here several times, as unfortunately it’s the closest fabric store to downtown. I’ve had several BAD experiences and this last time was the final straw. I WILL NOT be back to Joann Fabrics, ever. I would rather wait for an item to arrive in the mail from Amazon or drive across town to Hancock Fabrics or to Golden D’or before going anywhere near this Joann Fabrics!
The staff here is completely unconcerned with customer service. The first time I went in, I needed a measly yard and a half of one fabric cut. I approached the counter and laid the bolt down for the attendant to cut it. No one else was in line but I was refused service because I didn’t grab a ticket with a number on it. NO ONE ELSE WAS IN LINE! It was only after picking off a ticket number that my fabric was cut for me.
Another incident involved coming in to look for a Kwik Sew pattern that was available to order from Joann’s website. Not wanting to wait for it to come in the mail/​pay for shipping, I stopped by Joann’s to see if they carried it in the store. Nope. I asked an employee if it could be ordered. She had no idea, and called Mark, who is easily the most worthless manager in existence. He fumbled through their selection of Kwik Sew patterns before stating that they can’t order anything that they don’t stock in the store. (For the record, I did end up buying that pattern. I took my business over to Hancock Fabrics, who also didn’t carry the pattern in store but happily ordered it for me for no additional charge.)
The third incident involved needing to return a packet of sewing machine needles. I picked up a packet of needles that ended up skipping stitches on the weird fabric that I was using (that, for the record, I purchased from Golden D’or), and lost the receipt that was in a tiny bag for one tiny item. Bear in mind that it is currently 2014 as of writing this review, and EVERY OTHER major retailer keeps digital records of credit and debit card transactions. You can walk into any Target or Best Buy without a receipt, and their customer service reps can look up any purchases you made with any given card. According to Mark at Joann Fabrics, they cannot look up receipts. (Cannot…or will not? Hmm.) I brought in the WHOLE packet containing all 4 needles that I had purchased. I figured that they’d at least give me store credit, which would’ve been fine as I was purchasing another set of needles. Instead, the «best they could do» was HALF back. I returned a WHOLE product, and they best they could offer me was HALF back? Unacceptable. Evidently, $ 2.50 meant more to Joann Fabrics than a lifetime of customer loyalty. Was it a minuscule amount? Yes. But I left feeling robbed and taken advantage of. Was it my fault for not having the receipt? Yes, but things happen and sometimes you just need to take care of your customers. Mark was chirpy through out my robbery, er… transaction, but not sympathetic and it was completely evident that he didn’t give a rat’s ass about his customers.
Also…with the half back from the returned needles, plus my 40% off coupon, my total for my last ever purchase at JoAnn’s was $ 6.66. Not even joking.
In any case, this is not the only fabric store in DFW. It’s not like their prices are lower than their competition, and their major competition also offers or matches the 40% off single item coupon. Joann Fabrics isn’t the only game in town, and I won’t be back. Period.

plenty of parking. i didn’t really find what i needed in the color i was looking for but i found something that will do. there was a line 5 deep to get cuts so i was lucky i didn’t need any. lots of sale prices so that was nice. there was another line 5 deep to check out so glad i wasn’t in a rush to get home.

I’m pretty low maintenance when it comes to my projects: I like to wander until I find the things on my list, and maybe get some inspiration! I’ve never had an issue with customer service. Maybe because I’m not a jerk? Just a reminder-​the employees are PEOPLE… speak and act with kindness, make eye contact, ask don’t demand etc. Side note-​there is a special place in hell for the parent who (last tuesday) allowed their child to diarrhea all over the FLOOR and then just left. The lady who had to clean it up was so defeated. If you read Unilocal reviews, horrible parent/person:you owe her a BIG apology and then some! Shame on you.

A real shame these folks don’t know what customer service is — not even an attempt to assist with finding a fabric that I was ready to purchase!!! Rude is an understatement …

These people hussle to help you. If there are very few employees staffed, they run if they have to, but they are helpful. They also have good attitudes, and I rate that very highly.

The only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one is because this place is close to my house and sometimes has what I need. That is only if I do not have to ask any questions about what I need. The employees here are miserable And completely not helpful, In fact, you generally can’t find anybody to even ask a question to and certainly no one comes to you. I asked the girl if they had a certain thing from their website in stock– she glanced and said,” never seen it”. Asked her a question about coupons online, She said, «I have no idea» and looked towards the next customer. Pitiful.
Last time I went I noticed signs saying they were expanding the store. That’s exciting but I hope they find a entirely new staff to go along with it.
Head to the nice, big store off Preston if you need a Joann’s run.

I was not impressed. Given the size of the store, there could be a lot more choice in fabrics. The sewing machine accessory section was fairly small. I did not see any silk, but there are a lot of cotton prints. Most if them were not to my taste.
As someone mentioned in another review, there is no staff around to assist our advise you. A disappointing experience on the whole.

Our story opens on a sunny day last spring, where Ashleigh got a wild hair up her ass to be crafty.
Me: «I’ll be right back babe, I’m going to Joann’s.»
BF: *snicker* Do they even let people in there under the age of 60?“
Me: *Death glare that shows I’m not amused.*
Well, sadly enough maybe if I was 60 I wouldn’t have been treated like an idiot the first time I went in, looking for some stuff to learn how to crochet. Why would I want to learn a craft whose main devotees all hold AARP cards? Pinterest. That’s why.
Long story short, a friend of mine, who has even LESS skill than me at any type of «artsy» discipline picked up crochet after she saw a scarf she liked on Pinterest. Then she made it, and now she can’t quit. All her stuff is so cute, I had to outdo her, learn and make my stuff even cuter. All I was armed with was an
page on crochet, a couple YouTube videos, and a fierce determination to create one of those floppy-​type berets within the couple of months before it started getting cold.
So I went to get some yarn and a hook and knot my little way into pure winter weather fashion bliss. As soon as I walked in, I could tell things weren’t looking up in the «help» section. There was an older lady complaining loudly about how much she had to do — she was in the place where they the cut fabric and looked like she was waiting for someone (because there were people there and yet — she wasn’t cutting the fabric) and asked if she could tell me where the stuff I needed was. I didn’t know what size hook I needed (silly me), which prompted her to ask, «Do you even know what you’re doing?» Uh, no, I don’t, but thank you for making me look like a moron. Have a great day.
So I headed over to the section Angry Lady pointed to with her Angry Finger, and was about to talk to another lady who worked there. As soon as she saw me she turned on her heel and scurried away. At this point I figured A) I smell bad. B) I look like a serial killer. or C) I’m just really, really annoying.
Finally I pick up the closest bundle of yarn, a pack of a couple of hooks in various sizes and head for the hills.
Fast forward to today. Now that I’ve gotten down the basics of this crochet thing, I’ve been there multiple times over the past couple of months to pick up yarn or buttons or whatever. For what it is, it’s fine. They’ll send you some pretty great coupons, they have decent sales, and while I wouldn’t say customer service is friendly 100% of the time, I never had a repeat performance of that first experience. Will I keep going there? You betcha. It’s close, it’s relatively cheap, and now that I know what I need, it’s pretty darn convenient.
Oh, also a great place to stock up on off-​season decorations for next year! I went in yesterday and they had rows and rows of Christmas stuff which will go straight to the bargain bin close to or after the holidays.

The worst service! The employees at this store are miserable in their lives and do not want to be here. Expect to wait at least 20 minutes in line, nobody here is in a hurry.

I really wanted to like this store. It’s conveniently located and looks ok from the outside. However, I will never go there again after dealing with the horrible customer service. If you want to be belittled and not at all assisted, go here.
I rarely make declaratives like this, but I have been there several times trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. Nope. Tonight was the last straw. Even when the store is empty, as it was when I was there, it is still awful.

I hate this Jo-Ann’s and am currently refusing to go there, which is a pity since it’s about 5 minutes from my house. They are always understaffed and even worse, with people who hardly seem to know what they’re doing. They hardly ever seem to have anything that I need, including something as simple as a zipper foot. The fabric selection is alright, I suppose, but with the pathetic service; I’d rather drive to the larger store in Plano.

This is my least favorite Jo-​Ann location. It is cramped, and the selection of fabric and patterns is not great, compared to other locations.
I happened to stop here because I was in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to browse for fabric here.

Over time, this Joann location has endeared itself to me. It’s close enough to my house that if I need to make a quick run for something I’ve ran out of I can be there within 3 minutes.
This location is like Hermione’s magical handbag of stuff– if I come lookin’ for it, they’ve usually got it, despite the small location. Last night I made a quick run and as I pulled into the parking lot, I realized I’d forgotten my coupon (that damn scrap of paper that will save you 50% on any item) and the girl behind the register found a way to hook me up anyway. Woot!
