King Donut

I’m from the midwest and never heard of a sausage kolache. It was absolutely delicious. Sweet and savory at the same time. I can’t wait to bring some home.

Every week I’ll get a random craving for something and look to try a new place to satisfy that craving. This entire past week I’d been hungering for donuts, and ended up deciding to try out King Donut because it was so close to Kroger’s (and I had to make a grocery run anyway). It was suggested that I try out 3 donuts from both King and Kroger’s to see how much of a difference there was.
When I first walked in, I was highly unimpressed. I’d seen larger selections, and the donuts weren’t as large as the ones I’d seen at Kroger’s. I ended up ordering a standard glazed donut, a chocolate donut and a cream filled donut with a jalapeño bacon cheese sausage kolache to curb my hunger.
And it was all awesome from that point on. The man behind the counter filled up the cream donut on the spot. I wasn’t sure if they had different types of cream if you wanted to mix and match filling and glaze. The kolache was just incredible. Most places it’s mostly bread to fill you up and improve their margins, but it was the opposite here. Plenty of delicious meat flavor complemented by bread.
When we matched donut for donut, it wasn’t even close. While the Kroger donuts were larger, they were stale and rough. The cream was almost sandy in texture. Meanwhile every King donut was soft, easy to tear through and everything you’d hope for in a good donut. So don’t let the store fool you, it’s the donuts that do the work.

Fresh baked in house, hand filled. The flavors are terrific. They also have a nice selection of sausage rolls.
The couple that run the store is so nice. You always leave smiling and ready for a sugar rush to start your day.

Love this place! Aside from it’s location within walking distance of home, they’ve always been extremely friendly and always give us the freshest stuff. Ate in the shop once and was given a complimentary fresh-​out-​of-​the-​fryer donut and have witnessed these folks being generous with kids as well. Excellent place and it is now our go-​to donut joint.

Donuts are a average tasting, nothing spectacular. The price is ridiculous. I got 6 donuts (4 jelly filled and 2 glazed) for the price of $ 6. Crazy! Needless to say we won’t be returning.

Went in on a saturday morning, the air was filled with doughnut and kolache yummyness!!! I ordered the jalapeño sausage klache and grabbed lots of mustard (you’re crazy if you don’t) It did not disappoint. It is equally as good as those you can get in West Texas. It definitely satisfied my kolache craving. I will be back!!!
