History

Established in 2008.

After several years of planning, Lakewood Heat and Air was started at the bottom of the worst recession on record since the great depression.

My goal was to start an A/C company that customers could trust and take the fear out of needing to call a repairman. I believe that my repeat customers are a testament to the success of that philosophy.

After working with some of the finest A/C companies in Dallas for more than 25 years I decided to get out of the «rat race» and start a company based on personal relationships and quality service.

I have lived in the White Rock Lake/East Dallas area since 1964. I graduated from Bryan Adams H.S. in 1972 and later attended and graduated from Eastfield College in 1987 with an Associate Degree in HVAC.

My wife and I bought a 100 year old frame house in Lakewood and became urban pioneers before there was a name for crazy young people willing to buy and renovate old houses in economically depressed areas of the inner city. My, how the times have changed!

We raised three beautiful children in that home, and it remains an anchor for each as adults. We have seven grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way. Life is sweet.

I contacted Doug, but he was under the weather (hope you feel better soon, Doug!). He was very responsive and immediately referred me to his colleague, Ryan Heaton. Ryan responded immediately, and gave me an appointment for 48 hours later. Ryan and his 2 co-workers were on time and went right to work. I had had plumbing work done the day prior because my plumbing was producing an unpleasant odor, similar to the odor coming from my A/C. They inspected my entire A/C unit, and told me that the close proximity of my A/C unit to my problem plumbing area had created a draft which was pumping foul smelling air, and that there was actually nothing wrong with the A/C unit. The odor resolved on its own, and they charged me NOTHING for the inspection. Ryan and his colleagues are honest and efficient. Very helpful. I would highly recommend both Doug and Ryan. They helped me resolve my issue completely for free! If Doug is unavailable, call Ryan, and he will do a great job as well.

Thanks to my fellow Unilocalers, I found Doug, and I am so happy I did. Right before it started getting really hot, my A/C suddenly was working overtime, sometimes running all day long without a break. I contacted Doug, who actually came over in between jobs to come see what was wrong.
Luckily, it was not a difficult fix. He serviced and cleaned my A/C unit, put more Freon into it, and put an additive in that would help patch up some of the small leaky areas that contributed to the problem. He was up front and honest with me about the state of my furnace and A/C, and was really, really friendly and personable, which you don’t often see with handymen and fix-it guys of most varieties. I was really pleased with the results, and I plan on keeping him as my permanent HVAC go-to guy. Thanks, Doug!

I had just bought my house and needed the AC cleaned. We were doing a lot of work at the time, so I told him to just swing by when he was available. On a Tuesday, our air goes out. I called a large reputable company we’ve used before, but they told me they couldn’t come out until Friday!!! So, I go on Unilocal and find Lakewood Heat and Air, read so many good reviews, and gave Doug a call. It took a few hours to connect with him (it is the middle of July, after all, I’m sure he’s swamped), but when I did, he was friendly and enthusiastic. He said he could come by on Wednesday morning «around 11.» He showed up exactly at 11 the next day, figured out what was wrong, had the part in his van, installed it, and our air was up and running within the hour. AND the bill was $ 200 LESS than he originally quoted! Our unit is about 14 years old and probably needs replacing later this year, and I am definitely calling him at that time.
Would WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend his service to everyone, especially if you are in the Lakewood area.

Ignore the one bad review. Doug is professional, does his job right, friendly, and very honest. The one bad review is because of a fee to drive all the way to Rockwall. Of course he would charge a fee… Rockwall is so far away! Why don’t you call an hvac repairman in say… Rockwall?

I’m bad about writing reviews for exceptional service. Like many people, I tend to use Unilocal only to issue warnings about businesses that operate with less than exceptional service.
I read the rave reviews on Lakewood Heat and Air and had Doug come out in September to fix my air unit. He replaced the motor and recommended a wash of the outside unit. Wonderful service.
Last week my heater went out and I had him come in this morning to take a look. Within 5 minutes he was done — the gas valve had been switched off. Doug also checked the system for safety measures and was on his way. He did this at ZERO cost considering it was a small problem.
Doug is WONDERFUL and HONEST!
I’m saddened to see a less than stellar review, considering his honesty and fairness.
BOTTOM LINE: don’t believe the review posted that gave Doug an under par mark. He is exceptional!!!
Now if I could only find an auto mechanic with his honesty :)

I called Doug because of the rave reviews on Unilocal.He came out promptly, but informed me it would be an additional $ 25 trip fee because I live in Rockwall. He inspected our system and pronounced the death sentence… said our coil had pinhole leaks that were not worth repairing. He said we had a matter of days before our system would go out. (note at this point the a/c is working fine… I was just concerned that a condensation line was clogged). He said the condensation line was not clogged. So he put in 2 lbs of freon (he said we had lost freon because of the coil leak), and told us he would work up some quotes on a new heat pump system & email to us. Never heard from him again. This was a month ago, and our a/c is still working fine. A friend at work had her husband come out to look at our system & sd it was fine.

When our A/C went out in 105′ heat, I searched
for A/C companies. I called him while he was driving between appointments. He said he’d call me back when he could find a place to pull over. He returned my call within 10 minutes and we scheduled an appointment for early the next morning (his first available appointment). Less than an hour later, he called and said that even though he was very busy today, he knew it was too hot to be without A/C, so he said he would squeeze me in to his schedule to take a look at the problem. I know he was very busy, so kudos for his responsiveness and someday service!

Doug is an air conditioning genius. We lived in our 1940’s semi-remodeled home for almost 5 years, and struggled with one half of the house being too warm and the other half being too cold. We had called numerous providers to help, and no one could figure it out. I found Doug on Unilocal,and he came out quickly, asked good questions, and listened carefully to my description of the problem. He climbed around our attic to determine the ductwork was undersized for the volume we needed, and he replaced it within a few hours. Like magic, the house is cool, and life is good again. I called Doug this morning and he was at my house within a few hours. He’s an incredible guy, very professional. He diagnosed the problem quickly, had all the parts on hand, and finished quickly.
I previously had a fan motor in an outside unit replaced by a relative who was «sure he knew how to do it». He didn’t do it right. Save yourself a lot of grief and money and call a true professional like Doug first.

On a recent Friday afternoon, I had a recent problem with my central heat and air unit at my second home in Dallas on the first hot day of the year. So I called the company that we had used to repair it in the past (Quigly). They said it would be four days before they could come out and look at it. Ouch!!! So I scanned Unilocal!and found that Lakewood had a good review and called them.
Very quickly we were in touch with the owner of Lakewood, Doug, who happened to be working just down the street. He was able to leave that job for a few minutes and come and diagnose our problem, and get us up and running for the weekend in a short while. We made an appointment with him to finalize the repairs on Monday, as he needed some parts that needed to be ordered.
Sure enough, on Monday, he was there promptly and did exactly what he said he would do. In addition, he gave the unit a thorough going over and found a missing washer that needed replacing, as well as a loose wire that would have come off at some point in the future.
The bill for the repairs was reasonable, he was very pleasant to deal with, and seemed extremely knowledgeable. He gave us both his direct cell phone number and his e-mail address (which goes to his phone). In short, he was a pleasure to work with in every respect. I also like the fact that Lakewood is a one man shop and when you call in, you’re not only speaking to the owner, but you’re also speaking to the guy who is going to work on your system. It’s pretty hard to have a miscommunication in that situation.
Should I have problems in the future, Lakewood will be the first one I’ll call.

I have not always had good luck finding people to do work on my house. But, Doug at Lakewood Heat and Air is a diffrent story.

I found Doug simply by accident several years ago. He has been great helping me keep my old AC/Heater lemping along never pushing me to do anything before it was absolutely needed. This is the first time i have done a review that has not been food but I wish i would have had a review like this to guide me when i first moved into the area.
Finally the old AC/Heater was beyond repair and so Doug gave me a qoute… i also got quotes from several other firms — some were smooth talkers, some seemed on top of things but wanted to do things i knew would compromise the high efficency system i wanted to put in.
In the end Doug gave me a better quality install (more work done then any one else was bidding) and at about the same price or lower then anyone else.
so if you need the security of dealing with a national chain like home depot fine… but if you want someone that will tell you the honest truth about your system and someone i would even give me key without being around… then Doug will take care of you.
Believe me he is worth a call.
