Little Katana

Awesome sushi, average/​poor service and gets crazy busy during lunch. But the saki menu was impressive and even though it gets loud — the ambiance and experience of this place was great!

I have never been disappointed by this restaurant even when they were at their older location. To my surprise there katanatini was not on their menu but the owner was absolutely sweet enough to have it made for me. The crab tower was plenty for two and had plenty of wasabi in it, even though it doesn’t look like it. The stone bowls are absolutely amazing and cook so miraculously well in front of you.

Little Kat has very tight sushi. Whether dining in or taking out you can expect a solid experience. Service could use a a tweak or two, but whatevs because the sush makes up for it.

The owner is very aware of the customers and does her best to insure everyone is given a proper dining experience. The food is always AMAZING. I crave it on the reg. My favorites are the Tuna Tower, pork dumplings & Katana 101 roll.

Everything was just kind of eh, the service, the food and the atmosphere.
We started with hot green tea and edamame. You cannot really change either, they are what they are.
We then ordered three rolls and the tuna tower. Everything was served on separate plates, it was a very tight fit on the tiny two person table, which I hate these tables, they should never be used in restaurants. All of the rolls and the tower tasted the same as they were covered in in eel sauce and different kinds of spicy mayo. All of the mayos tasted the same, and were used very heavy handily. If I go back, which I won’t, I would ask for the sauces on the side. There was no variation in flavor or texture. There need to crunch and something to brighten it up.
Other than that, we arrived early Sunday afternoon, before anyone was dining for dinner, but as the evening progressed, it became very claustrophobic. People were having to move as the servers and guests were trying to be seated.

I’ve been to the old location a few times and love this place! The food is delicious and well priced for the Uptown area. The servers are always very nice, and the food has great presentation. Can’t wait to try the new location that just opened across the street!

*To note: I’ve been eating at Little Katana at there old location for years, (before I was even on Unilocal). When a person finds something you like, as for me, I tend to return to go back to great places!
**To note: Over the years I’ve become good friends with Head chef Kim. He has a kind heart and is a great sushi chef, but if you’re coming here for the first time, I’d suggest sitting in front of the sushi bar and meet head chef Kim and ask what he recommends. Sushi is an acquired taste, and should be tasted in search an order to one’s palate. When you’re ready to be more adventurous taste tell your sushi chef /​wait staff!
Positive notes:

~ Love the Hot Rice Bowl, not expensive and so tasty! Add different proteins as well!
~ Just several doors down is Sur La Table, a great little cooking supply store! It is always fun to go in there and then go eat sushi at Little Katana, even if your just window shopping!
~ Sweet fun loving owners. Locally owned!
~ Mondays are discounted prices on about a half dozen roles
~ Wednesdays are half prices on certain wines and saki’s
~ Great place to bring friends & family!
~ So many different romantic spots/​tables in the place
~ Well stocked bar
~ The chicken soup is wonderful! It’s the recipe from the owners wife who comes in from time to time to make sure the chefs know how to makes or she makes sure it correct! This is great to have during cold season! Please note, it’s chili hot, but well worth it! Me, I love it! Thank you Mrs. Kim! You are a rock star!
~ One of the best seats in the house is to sit at the sushi bar in front of head chef Kim! He is one of the kindest and best chefs around!
~ They are great on getting to sushi orders out! (It stops up the bartender, but they work their tail off to get your order right!)
~ The place gets packed around 7ish, try to get here a little earlier!
~ Get to know your server, they are knowledgable with the food and drinks. Every so often they have tastings to be up to speed on what on the menus.

Little Katana is located just north of down town Dallas in a little area called Uptown. Just this side of food heaven!
I’ll be coming back! Yes, I like this place!

Pros: nice people, new location is better for the claustrophobic, good selection of rolls to choose from, most rolls are pretty good, service was good when we could get their attention (it was busy)
Cons: kind of over priced for what you get, food is good but not exceptional, some speciality rolls were flavorless and the appetizer sampler was pretty lame
Verdict: its a decent spot for the area if you like rolls and are not a sushi snob… If you like sashimi i would probably skip it since im not sure the quality is there… The rolls were pretty good but you dont need exceptional fish to make a good roll (this is why i will go to fire xbox and get rolls on the cheap instead of coming to a place like this)…

Stumbled upon Little Katana last night while looking for a different restaurant. Because parking was an absolute pain elsewhere, we decided to give Little Katana a try and we’re glad we did. We arrived around 6pm and it wasn’t too busy — only a handful of other people in the restaurant. We shared an appetizer and a few rolls (Spicy California, Spicy Tuna, and the Sunny Roll) and it was delicious. I highly recommend the Sunny Roll!!! The food was presented in a very pretty manner and the wait wasn’t long at all. The restaurant isn’t very big so the tables filled up quickly and it seemed that a lot of people had come and gone by the time we finished talking and tabbed out.
I am giving only 4 stars because I felt the selection of sushi rolls was a little limited. Also, the server mentioned they don’t do tempura style sushi which I thought was odd but still overall a great experience and we will definitely visit again.

I swear the asiab manager lady is either the owner of this place or she sleeping with them because she is such an awful employee there is no way she should still have a job. She is always yelling @ employes and customers, Ignoring us at the door. She pretends not to understand English or your complaints & she will ‘write ur name down’ for seating but then seat 5 diff people who have come after you and when you ask her or any of the servers they act as if they dont know what ur talking about. She told us she had called our name and that we didn’t answer however we were standing right beside her and she never called out our name; The servers look miserable which probably explains the awful service half the time This place is going to fail and now we know y the table beside us called her dragon lady. The food is amazing, service can be it is hit or miss, but management is a 0.

Beautiful new location, same great tasting food. We came in the weekend after the move, and they seemed already settled in, quick to seat, attentive, and quick to serve the food. Since we came in the early evening, we were greeted warmly and seated right away. The seating hostess pulled the chair out for me, which is always a great start. Our server was sweet and energetic, quick to answer any questions we had about menu items. After ordering, our stone bowl and ahi tower came out within ten minutes! The restaurant quickly filled up as the evening wore on, but the restaurant was well staffed and the servers were able to provide good service despite it getting busy.
I’m not sure what all of the negativity is about in the couple of comments that have been left so far. The manager «dragon lady» as referred to in other comments, checked up on our table during the meal, and thanked us for coming in as we were leaving. Maybe it was just a good day, but I’d say give this place a chance! They’ve done well in their previous location, and with their beautiful new establishment, I see a lot of potential.

We arrived about 10 minutes after it opened, so there was plenty of seating. The service was very good. The food was very good and arrived quickly. We also loved the playlist they had in the background.
