Margo Bridal Alterations

Going to Margo to alter my gown is the biggest regret I have from my wedding experience. When I initially consulted with her, she assured me she could perfect my dress for an expensive price. She wrote down everything we discussed and I paid her in full up front as she asked so we were both fully committed. Needless to say, after several appointments and multiple delays, she didn’t do what we agreed upon, and I was stuck with an unfinished dress a week before my wedding day! She lied and told me I didn’t ask for what was clearly on paper. And she even told me my expectations were unrealistic. But it wasn’t unrealistic when we discussed it up front and I paid her. Trusting her with my dress was the biggest mistake ever. Brides beware! I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. Unless you want a nightmare, do not waste your time and money.

Came in for a quote on a slight hem on an outer layer of lace and a bustle. I arrived at the Deep Ellum location and freaked out a bit when the door was locked. I knocked and waited then chose to call the number on the site but luckily someone opened the door. I was told a lady would be right with me. I waited a few minutes and was helped by a younger woman. Her attitude was horrible from the beginning. On my way in, the hanger broke for my dress. I asked if she had an extra hanger I could have and she looked at me like I was crazy and said she doubted they had any extra hangers. I was literally turned off after that but I still gave them a try. Anything I asked or said was literally a joke to them. I asked if they could adjust the length I needed from the waist instead of hemming from the bottom (which would require beading work), they both laughed at me, Margo and her assistant. Margo literally looked at my dress, without touching it and quoted me $ 300 for the bustle and 2 inches off one layer of my dress in the front. I immediately got dressed and left. It wasn’t for me, they seemed too busy to care about a new customer coming through the door and their customer service skills were horrible! They acted like what I was asking for was way too much.

I would never wish this experience on my worst enemy. I took my wedding dress in to be altered 2 months ago. They had my dress for 2 months. I paid upfront for a bustle, sew in bra cups, and a gap in the side to be taken in by not even an inch.

Every time I went for a fitting, the dress kept getting smaller and smaller. I couldn’t quite figure it out, considering I had lost 4 pounds since my first visit and I only needed half an inch taken in. At my 4^th and final fitting, the dress was WAY too tight. They had to get 2 people to zip it up and I could barely breathe. Now just imagine in your mind the FAT OVERHANG I had in the back. You know, where it looks like a giant butt crack on your back? Yep. Even for super skinny people, there’s no way around it when a dress is that tight. When I looked in the mirror, I was disgusted. Horrified. She kept saying ‘wow what a beautiful dress’…um– WHAT? obviously she knew this was a problem. When I asked her about the back, she said she couldn’t take it out anymore (not sure why since this dress fit around me when I took it there in the first place and i didn’t need any HUGE alterations done) then, she told me to WORK OUT and do pull ups so I could fit into it. Are you f*#+%^ KIDDING ME??? That is the VERY LAST THING on the planet to say to someone getting married in 2 WEEKS! I took my dress to get tailored to ME. Not for me to tailor myself to YOUR alterations.
I am very easygoing, not picky AT ALL. But this… This is completely unacceptable.
After that statement, I took it home. Brought it inside and checked it out, there was STILL NO BUSTLE! One safety pin in the back and nothing else. (See pictures) also a button was missing. After balling my eyes out all night– I am now trying to find someone to fix this in time.
I basically paid for my dress to be made 4 sizes too small. And now I am SCRAMBLING to find someone to fix it. 2 weeks till the wedding… the biggest nightmare I wouldn’t wish on any bride.

Like most brides, it’s tough to trust such an expensive gown to an unknown tailor. I googled the best/​top bridal alterations in DFW and got this place. After reading reviews, I decided to try her out. I dealt a lot more with Lisa (Margo’s sister), than Margo. Lisa was very courteous and tried to be relatable.
I needed 2 gowns altered. Bridal gown just needed to have the bust taken in. 2^nd gown needed to be hemmed up and fitted at the bust area as well. My first dress fitting, my bridal gown was tightened rather snugly and the 2^nd gown did NOT have any alterations completed on it. I noticed during this time that the corset on my dress was protruding and asked if anything could be done. Margo safety-​pinned this and said that they could cut it and the line should disappear.
At the second dress fitting, the bridal gown remained unchanged. Margo claimed that she did not know what the safety-​pin on the corset was for and said that she could not guarantee a good result on the wedding dress if she had to cut the corset ribs. My 2^nd dress was completely altered (even though at the first dress fitting, they stated that the dress would not be cut until my final shoes were selected).
Needless to say, I took both my dresses home that day. I ended up having to find a different alterations lady, who found out Margo messed up the seams on the back of my wedding gown and had stitched some things that should not have been stitched (at first it looked like my dress had been accidentally cut at the hip and sewn together).
I would not recommend her for your bridal alterations.

I was referred to Margo by the folks at Anonymously Yours when I purchased my dress last year. Not really knowing much about the process, I called around October or November of last year and asked that the normal time frame was for taking my dress in for alterations and was given a general timeline. I ended up taking the dress over to Margo’s Deep Ellum shop around the end of January, beginning of February 2015, and had the dress back in my hands 9 weeks later – do plan ahead, especially if your dress is intricate. After one measurement session, she was able to accurately alter the dress and added a bustle that was quite handy during the reception part of the afternoon. Overall, I was very happy with the service and the quality of the workmanship and would recommend her and her shop again.

I had very high hopes for Margot Alterations. She was extremely attentive and nice on my first visit — my sister and mother joined me at her Allen location (my parents’ house is just 5 minutes from her Allen store front). We then scheduled my next two appointments at her Deep Ellum location since I live in Fort Worth. At my second appointment, I called 20 minutes after our scheduled time and she assured me she was almost there. She called me back 10 minutes later telling me she was at the wrong location! I had to wait outside in my car for an hour for her to arrive. She proceeded ensure my mother and me she would be at the Deep Ellum location for our next appointment and made a «special note» on her calendar. At my third appointment, she was not there on time and I called her 10 minutes after our scheduled appointment. Her sister picked up and told me she was driving and would be there soon. 30 minutes later she was still not there. I called and it kept going straight to voicemail. As soon as I started to leave she called me laughing, saying she was in the wrong location again. At this point I was extremely frustrated. It takes me an hour to get to Deep Ellum, and vacation time had to be used to be there within her business hours. After flat out arguing with me about how these things happen sometimes, I reminded her she had already done this to me because she seemed to have forgotten about the previous incident. She was able to accommodate me with a Saturday appointment at her Allen location so I would not have to miss any more work. My dress ended up looking great! She did a last minute adjustment and sewed the top layer of lace onto the silk dress underneath so it would not separate as I walked. I thought that maybe all the headaches she gave me were worth it, not to mention the $ 866.00 I was charged for the work. Well. right before I walked down the aisle. my strap completely snapped off where it was sewn to size and was falling down, and the last minute stitching she did came apart as my dad was getting me ready to go. Thank goodness my aunt is really good with a needle and thread. She was able to do a temporary fix before BOTH straps snapped again after the ceremony. I had to change into my «send off» outfit about 30 minutes into my reception. I typically only write reviews if I have something good to say, but brides already have enough on their plate — and this just left a bad taste in my mouth.

I called Margo in June to ask about tailoring services for my wedding in October. She said it was too early, that she wouldn’t do it in case I gained or lost weight (despite the fact that I told her I’ve been the same weight since sophomore year of high school. She told me to go back in early August.
I went back on August 5, and she told me she was too busy to take me as a client. No apology or accommodation. I very much DO NOT recommend using her. She’s not particularly interested in her client’s descriptions or needs.

Margo was great and easy to work with! If you want her to work on your wedding dress, you must schedule ahead of time (about 1 – 2 months) since she is booked for quite awhile (but that’s because she’s so good, so that’s A. OK with me). I needed a corset back on my wedding dress and Margo added one perfectly! My family was amazed and said that it looked like the dress was originally made with a corset back. I highly recommend her!

I really really REALLY enjoyed my experience with Margo! She’s was truly professional, sweet, and brutally honest (which I definitely appreciate) with me regarding my wedding dress (June 2013). I made sure my whole wedding party went to her for those. Alterations because She was just THAT GOOD. She ensured I could move, dance, sit, and everything else I would need to do in my dress on my day. She is very welcoming, warm, funny, and you can especially tell that She loves what She does. It’s in her work! Love me some Ms. Margo!!!

I recently worked with Margo West Bridal Alterations for my wedding veil and dress. I put a lot of time into researching who I was going to trust with such an important job! I bought my dress at local well-​known bridal shop. They, of course, tried to get me to use their in-​house alterations person, who I did meet with, but got the impression that she was in a rush and that my dress would be just one of many that she was trying to turn around during a busy bridal season.
I took my dress and veil into Margo West for an estimate. They were happy to offer me an estimate, and to be honest, the prices were very comparable to other estimates I received. The difference in my experience here and why I chose Margo West is that ALL they do are wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and veils. They spent their time with me, they are experts in what they do, and made me feel like they really appreciated and wanted my business. I was always the only bride in the store (which I’m sure isn’t always the case) and really appreciated this personalized experience.
My wedding was the day after my parents 40^th wedding anniversary, so I wanted to wear my mom’s wedding veil. Her veil in its original state was not my style, so Margo reconstructed it for me and it turned out amazing. My dress required a hem alteration, which was more complex than a typical hem because of the multiple lace layers and scalloped edging, and it turned out fantastic!
I am very happy I went with Margo West Bridal Alterations, and I will without a doubt be recommending them in the future to friends and family.

My friend recommended Margo West alterations and I’ve taken two dresses there so far (taking a third dress this week). She has had to hem and take in two bridesmaids dresses for me and both came back fitting like a glove. I love the work she does, and enjoy chatting with her when I come in. She’s friendly and clearly has been doing this for a long time. I usually come in around lunch time or after work to drop off /​pick-​up, but if I’m running late or need to change my appointment time, she’s super flexible. Love Margo, and won’t ever take a nice dress anywhere else!

This Place is THE BEST, Margo is AMAZING.
Once we received my dresses, I knew I would need alterations. I was a little worried that nobody would be able to fix it since my dress was so big and delicate, then I would have to pay a lot of money. I searched Unilocal for reviews on bridal alteration places and could not find something that was near me with good reviews. I came upon Margo West, even though here weren’t any reviews and decided to give them a call.
Once I got my appointment one month before the wedding and put my dress on Margo quickly start making the changes the my dress need it and in front of our eyes the dress start taking the shape of my body, We were Impress she knew exactly which part need to be change.
She make me feel comfortable the my dress was in good hands so I didn’t hesitate in working with her.
My alteration were more fairly since I got there a month before my wedding with a difficult dress and the results AMAZING.
My wedding day was August 31 2013 everybody love the way my dress look and its because of her amazing Job.

I did not end up using Margo West alterations, because I could not get a quote on the alterations. She said it depended on how difficult the customer is and how difficult the dress is. I could not leave my dress knowing it could continue to go up in price depending on a subjective factor such as how difficult I was. This would have been for a side seam, hem and bustle. Just my 2 cents.

The woman running the shop when I came in last Fall, who I can only assume was Margo, was very courteous and professional during my fitting for a bridesmaid’s dress. She even cut a small sample of fabric from the dress where she was taking it in anyway so I could take it with me on my impossible hunt for matching shoes!

Margo made my idea of my dream dress into a reality. It was truly one-​of-​a-​kind. I got SO many compliments on how my dress was perfect for me. Margo was extremely easy to get ahold of, if you leave a message she’ll call back within 24 hours. She was very flexible and easy to work with. She does fittings by appointment only, which is nice because her focus is just on you at the time. I would recommend her to any bride! She made my dress experience pain free!

This place is excellent! My friend is getting married in Las Vegas and all of the bridesmaids live all over the country. Once we received our dresses, I knew I would need alterations. I was able to get an appointment right away and when I went it, it was just me. There weren’t other customers there to compete with. There were two ladies, one is Margo and I apologize, but I forgot the other lady’s name. Anyways, I put on my dress and told them what I need, they did their measurements and said I could change.
I changed back into my regular clothes and they looked at the dress and were so quick and confident on making the changes that I need. It was great! I thought they would need to do a ton of work, but they showed me the small changes they would need to make and that’s it!
Also, the total for my alterations was about $ 40, which is a lot less then I expected to pay.
The ladies asked me when the wedding was and told them and they had it ready a week before it was time to go. They said if it needs changing that week, they can do it right away, but it should be okay.
When I picked it up, I tried it on and it fit perfectly! It was comfortable, I could breath and it looked good. I was so happy to have found a great bridal alterations place. If only they did other alterations, I would be even happier!!!
Overall, great experience at this place and I highly recommend them!

I brought an old heirloom hand-​beaded cocktail dress to Margo, hoping that she would give it as much care and attention to detail as one would a wedding dress. I wanted the hem brought up over 12 inches, preserving as much of the original material as possible. I gave her about a week and a half. 3 days before the event, I had an idea to add small sleeves to each of the shoulders. For both the new hem and the sleeves, I couldn’t have asked for a better result. This woman is a MASTER with updating vintage clothes; I saw a number of before-​and-​after wedding dresses that made me drop my jaw! She’s also enthusiastic and open to creative ideas while remaining grounded in a wealth of knowledge and experience with a wide variety of fabrics. The whole thing cost me about $ 300. $ 150 for each… But the dress I ended up with looked as if was originally made that way. Each strand had to be tied-​off by hand and then backed with material on the under-​side. Beautiful work of the highest quality, and at the end of the day, you can’t put a price on good craftsmanship and someone who cares about the garment as much as you do. I’m sending all of my friends her way should they be in need.
