History

Established in 2014.

More than forty years ago, math educator Larry Martinek was inspired to find a better way to teach children math. Larry set out on a mission: to find an approach that would provide children with the strong foundation they needed to succeed. Over the next three decades, he painstakingly developed and assembled a blend of methods and materials. Instead of relying on traditional rote memorization and repetitive exercises, Larry’s work focused on helping children understand math by honing their math instincts and getting them to think like mathematicians.

Justin and Mary Catherine Mitchell and Freddie and Amy Halstead, are the owners of Mathnasium of Highland Park Texas, your neighborhood math-​only learning center. Our center helps kids in grades K-​12 understand math by teaching the way that makes sense to them, the Mathnasium way.

Freddie and Amy Caron H.

Business Owner

Before opening Mathnasium of HP Freddie and Amy Caron Halstead were teachers and coaches at Marsh Middle School where they met. Amy Caron has taught math for 10 years and was working on her doctorate in statistics before opening Mathnasium of Lake Highlands in June 2013. Since graduating from the University of Oklahoma, Freddie has worked for the Dallas Stars, the Orlando Solar Bears, the Dallas 2012 Olympic campaign, and Dallas ISD. Amy Caron, a Baylor grad, currently owns and runs Mathnasium of LH.
