May Dragon Chinese Restaurant

Probably the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had in the Dallas area. We ordered (delivery via Eat24) the Kung Pao Pork, the Pork/​Tofu Szechaun and the egg drop soup. The soup was flavorful. Everything else was bland. The food seemed processed. Poorly processed.
We took about 3 bites, tossed it all in the trash and ordered a pizza!
On a high note, the delivery was fast. And the driver did NOT wait over 20 minutes at my door. I went to check my mail and it takes me less than five minutes to get to the mailroom of my building.

This restaurant deserves a better rating. The ambiance is great, the service is prompt and friendly, and the food is good (that’s saying a lot as I don’t especially like Chinese food). Is it the best Chinese in town? No, but it’s consistently enjoyable and they’ll take good care of you.

It is our first visit, we started with beef on a stick. It came out with a little table top grill cauldron which I thought was a nice touch. I ordered the May dragon combination sizzling plate and my fiancé ordered the seasame beef. Everything was delicious and better than expected!!! I will definitely come here again with or without the Groupon. The service was great.

Nice atmosphere and food. This os an upscale Chinese restaurant with a full bar and I quite enjoyed it. The moo shi shrimp was crisp and came with ample hoisin sauce. More importantly the broccoli beef, which I consider the bellwether dish of any American Chinese menu was excellent, high quality ingredients and freshly cooked. The sauce was different in a good way with just a hint of lemon. The spring rolls were decent if unremarkable, but what is remarkable is a place that doesn’t feel the need to chuck peas and carrots into the fried rice, a choice that is rare and I applaud in the all –too-​rare restaurants that opt to leave the poor rice alone. Twenty dollars feeds two people well here.

I ordered rice noodles (mei fun) with chicken and got greasy wide noodle pasta. Dumplings had almost nothing in them and fell apart when attempting to eat. Overall just not good Chinese food at all…

Very Very bland. I ordered the chicken with broccoli. I wasn’t expecting much, but everything tasted the same. The vegetables, the meat and the sauce. It all tasted like water. I will say that the delivery was half the time they said it would be, but I would rather have waited the longer time for better food.

I loved the food costumer service was great I can for business dinner and I’ll loved it here great prices I had the walnut shrimp on freshly shredded lettuce and walnut on side! I’ll be back!

5 of us went here for lunch. The food was good, and the service was lightning quick. The hot and sour soup was especially tasty. Our waiter, an elderly gentleman, was the highlight of the meal. He was informative, providing stories, and attentive throughout the entire meal. He didn’t let any of our glasses get empty, no matter how hard we tried. The overall décor, including the bathroom, was light and refreshing. Definitely will be back.

Tried the lo mein noodles again this time and they were rice noodles, greasy, low quality. Not the good.

The first time I ordered I had a great experience. Easy to order online and the food was delicious. They even arrived earlier than the anticipated delivery time.
However, the second time I ordered I was very disappointed. So much so that I will not longer be a customer. The man who delivered my food called me and yelled at me to meet him outside of my apartment building. Then when I signed the form, he determined that the tip I gave him was not large enough and wouldn’t give me my food until I changed the amount I was paying. I ended up increasing my tip greater than 20% while being harassed by the delivery driver. I will not be returning as as a customer.

Ordered shrimp fried rice and tasted sour. Threw it away.
Ordered beef broccoli and it was not completely cooked. Threw it away.
Soup was fine. Sweet and sour chicken was fine.
Half of my order was thrown away. Such a waste.

If I could give zero stars I would. Had to find the host just to order because the waiter disappeared for an unusually long time. Then the food was disgusting, globs of lukewarm brown sauce drowned a plate of dry noodles with overcooked vegetables. But the kicker is this, the server that gave us the check waited until my date had signed, then opened the check presenter in front of us and told us we didn’t tip enough, that the tip should be 30%, and that my date should write down the reason for the low tip. I have never seen such deplorable service. The table next to us even heard and pulled us aside as we left to ask if that had really just happened. Unbelievable. I will never be returning and I encourage others to seek another restaurant with better service and food. Horrible experience!

Had a very disappointing lunch here. I tried to order Beef Haw Fun, a classic staple of Chinese restaurants but the waitress had no idea what I was talking about. I told her it was the flat noodles but that didn’t help either. She brought me fried noodles with beef, which was not what I ordered. I did not want anything fried or too greasy. I hoped the manager would stop by the table to ask how everything was so that I could tell him but he never did and when the waitress stopped back at the end of the meal to ask how everything was, she didn’t wait for an answer. I didn’t want to be an annoying customer and I had to get back to work so I just ate it and it wasn’t very good. The food is very Americanized and NOT at all authentic Chinese/​Cantonese-​style cooking.

The place is very loud. Voices bounce off the walls.
I had a Living Social voucher. I wanted to order sea bass knowing it was over the limit of the voucher. I wanted to pay the difference. I was told I could not order anything over $ 18. Most items on the menu were $ 13. So, the value of the voucher was not that good.
I ended up ordering sea scallops. Bad choice. They were very rubbery. When the waitress ask how everything was, I told her. She looked at me like I was crazy and the first person to ever say anything bad about the food. She said she would tell the chef. And walked away. That was all from her. Another waiter came back to give us the check.
No refill, no nothing.
I will not be returning and will not recommend this place.

Food was good. Ambience was so amazing, like a real Chinese restaurant. It was very calm and soothing setting. Everyone was very nice and pleasant.

STAY AWAY FROM HERE! This place is bad. On top of that it took over an hour to deliver right down the street, the food is well below par. The soup tastes like water and the «fried entrée» that I ordered was actually boiled. After the fact they forgot part of my meal, I called and requested they bring me my missing food. The woman on the phone suggested I just give the difference to the delivery driver as additional tip. (As if it makes any sense to tip additional for forgetting my food.) Overall I wouldn’t eat here again even if it was free.

Wonderful place. Years ago we would come to Addison to eat at Forbidden City, a classic San Francisco old school restaurant. Seems like most of those have gone away and many Chinese restaurants are either buffet or fusion. May Dragon is just like we remember the forbidden city experience. Food is great (although the waiter gave us a warning about some people not liking the tea smoked duck due to being too authentic … It was fabulous), Victor the waiter was excellent, and we are leaving as happy eaters. Go to May!

This was my fourth visit to May Dragon, and I really dig this place. A lovely intimate wood interior greats you, as well as a surprisingly ample dining space that’s sectioned off and makes every table feel intimate.
I love their spring rolls with yummy cabbage, so hot and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I also love their chicken drumsticks, which are also perfectly crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside.
Subsequently the Hot and Sour soup is nicely spiced with just the right amount of heat. I do think the soup could be warmer, though.
One day I’ll have to venture off my usual choices of the excellent Moo Goo Gai Pan and Beef and Broccoli and try something new. The portions are perfectly doled out for one satisfying serving and all of the ingredients are super fresh and always hot.
The service here has never been anything other than attentive and friendly. This is American Chinese in the best possible fashion. And I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

We ordered the lo mien w/​chicken and shrimp egg foo. The lo mien was just ok however the egg foo young was terrible. freezer burnt tasting shrimp poured over the egg foo. Really did not taste fresh. Not worth the money.

food was hot. Server was nice. It is pricy for what you get. It is after all Chinese. Not a fan of the orange chicken but husband liked it. .I ate his noodles. No egg rolls but spring rolls. They are small and only 2 for an order… good flavor though. Haven’t decided about the return… oh and I forgot to ask for my tea… they didn’t bring it…

My husband and I include this place in one of our date nights. Food is good. I’ve never been disappointed with the exception that the crab Rangoon only has cream cheese. Other than that I stick to my basic lemon chicken fried rice hot jasmine tea. I love the piano music. Sometimes we just sit here and listen. I will continue to include this place on date night.

Well, I’m trying to be nice! The service and the wait staff was awesome and so was the ambiance but that’s where the compliments stop. The food came out quicker than fast food which made me question what was going on in the kitchen. The sizzling plate came out wasn’t sizzling and was actually warm. It didn’t have a good taste and I picked around it. The combo rice was mediocre and I could get off any corner store In dallas. I don’t think I will drive up too Addison again for this restaurant

This place has been very good in previous «dine ins», but what we got for dinner tonight wasn’t even good. Duck was dry and not sure fresh, shrimp w lobster sauce smelled very fishy (different than before), and crab ragoons didn’t taste fresh. Also the brown rice we paid extra for was very dry. On the positive, the egg drop soup was excellent. Also the sesame chicken was very good. That’s not enough to justify $ 70 plus tip for 3. Debating on whether worth another try. Probably will at least once since has been good before.

I think this is one of the best Chinese food places in Dallas. They are authentic Chinese food at a good price. Check groupon because they put good deals on there sometimes. Their chrispy noodles are the bomb! Its a pretty common Chinese dish but no one makes it in Dallas. I have friends who call me when they are ordering it. Yes if you eat their the service might be a little different but I been there a bunch of times and my food always comes out hot. I really like the egg drop soup too and they always hook up an extra bowl.

I hadn’t been to May Dragon in a long time and I vaguely recall that my last visit was nothing special. This visit was awful! I knew that going on Christmas day we would expect service to be a little slow, but that is no excuse for what we experienced.
Thankfully we had made a reservation and we didn’t have to wait long to be seated. That was probably the best part of the meal. There were 5 of us in our group. Our servers quickest stop was his first when he came to take our drink orders, 3 waters and 2 iced teas. We were soon given crispy fried wontons to snack on. That was the quickest thing they could get out of the kitchen. They weren’t even that great as some were stale.
After receiving our drinks in styrofoam cups, we ordered our dinner. I have no idea why we were given styrofoam cups. Our order was simple, eggrolls and lettuce wraps to start and then Mongolian beef, vegetable lo-​mein, and eggplant with brown sauce.
The soup actually made it out fairly quick, but sadly the hot and sour soup that 2 of us ordered came out barely warm and it was nothing special.
It took about 15 – 20 minutes for our eggrolls to come out and when they brought them, we got two tiny spring rolls. When I said that we ordered egg rolls, I was told «we just have spring rolls». They were nothing special. Very small with very little filling. They tasted like they had been frozen. When I asked about they vegetable wraps I was told the kitchen was busy.
At this point our server had pretty much disappeared. I had to ask another server passing by for a refill on tea and water for the table. After nearly an hour wait from when we ordered, one of the people in our group went to the owner to find out what the problem was. Other tables that ordered after us were already getting their food. He just said the kitchen was backed up and offered no apologies. At this point we said we didn’t want the other appetizer.
A few minutes later our 3 entrees came out. Firstly, the portions were very small. The vegetable lo-​mein was some noodles and broccoli and there wasn’t even that much. The eggplant was actually the best thing we had except that the portion was small. I have had Mongolian beef plenty of times to know what good Mongolian beef should look and taste like. When I commented to the owner that it was too sweet and didn’t taste good, all he said was «that’s how it’s supposed to be»! The last time I checked, if a paying customer doesn’t like something you should offer to make it right. It was also really salty and the meat looked like a combination of meat strips and ground beef. Nothing like the Mongolian beef I have had before. They didn’t do anything.
When we finally got our bill, the owner said he had removed the lettuce wraps that we never got and cancelled. When he handed me the bill, it was still on there. I don’t know what has happened to this place, but I can assure you that I will never return.

I really, genuinely cannot understand why this restaurant should deserve anything less than a four-​star review. Every time we’ve dined here for the past SEVENTEEN YEARS has been a pleasant and enjoyable experience. I’m beginning to wonder if some of the vaguely-​worded reviews lacking in details concerning what the reviewer was dissatisfied with are genuine and/​or in keeping with Unilocal policy.
Sure, every good restaurant is going to have an «off-​day» once and awhile, and this place is no exception. But in terms of consistency of food quality and service, this place is tops, no complaints. If anything, the food quality has even improved over the last decade. The whiners and complainers have no credibility with ME.
If you’ve never been here before, you owe it to yourself to give May Dragon a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Despite my first review I have been coming back here since a special friend of mine likes it and won’t go to the Chinese places in Richardson or Arlington with me!
First off, the inside is actually well done. It’s nice given the amount of space it occupies. I like how they host special events. Once I went in during CNY and was quite surprised with little kiddos doing the Lion Dance. They passed out a card with a description of what the Lion Dance is and what to do with the hongbao that was placed on the table. Spreading cultural knowledge is always a good thing!
As for the food, my opinion has not changed that much. It is honestly standard American Chinese fair. The only Americanized Chinese food I like is Orange Chicken (which I have not yet found a replacement for the one I use to get all the time). Theirs is too much batter given the amount of chicken.
On a plus side, I like how they will give you an actual tea pot if you order hot Jasmine tea (you’d be surprised, some places just give you a cup). The staff is incredibly nice and attentive, also apologetic when something happens (one waiter spilled hot tea all over the table but he recovered quite nicely by throwing in a joke). I bumped it up a star just because the overall dining experience isn’t so bad. I still knocked off the two stars for the food.
