I came here for my Birthday Dinner, and this place including the food was nothing less than amazing!
We walked in and thought «Where is the rest of building…» They took us down a cute little pathway to a covered patio/​deck area. The lights were dim, soft music was playing, and the scenery was elegant rustic/​chic looking.
My husband and I do not eat meat, but they had plenty of items that fit our food selection! Their Ceviche is the BEST in town! I had the Lobster Enchiladas they were Amazingg! My husband had the Salmon & Blue Crab which was amazing as well. Everyone loved their drinks! Their Mojitos and Jamaican Paloma drink were amazing! We also received a peanut butter shot. Very tasty!
Our server was JP! He was great! Very knowledgeable on their food, history, drink selections, and courteous to each of my guest! We will definitely be back again. Everyone enjoyed everything!

2.5 stars– Have been wanting to check this place out for sometime. Finally came in and I wasn’t that impressed.
The food is nothing out of the world amazing, it’s just good.
Also, I don’t mind paying for GOOD food, check out my other reviews. The prices are high for a Mexican restaurant in Oak cliff, with just ok food. Sad because I love Mexican food wasn’t impressed…
Wouldn’t recommend — this place is just an over priced Glorias restaurant

I have lived in Dallas for 25 years and have eaten at every Mexican restaurant you can name. I consider myself a lover of good, flavorful food, and it takes a lot to impress me. Mesa was phenomenal! To top the delicious meal, our server was very gracious. I highly recommend you go off the beaten path to visit this gem in Oak Cliff.

We loved the food. He had steak and I had salmon and all the margaritas are excellent. They did not cook the steak right but all else was good. Try the horchata drink. Ceviche was an excellent appetizer. The location is not great but sure it will get better once they build more in the area. We will go back for the drinks and appetizers.

I got the lobster enchiladas which were absolutely wonderful. There could have been more of the enchilada sauce to make the dish perfect. The queso fundito was very tasty! There were chilis in the queso which gave it a nice kick.

Watch out with those Margaritas! They are delicious and fairly sizable. I had half and my head was happily spinning. Four of us shared the lovely Guacamole and Queso Fundido presented with house made tostado chips.
The Conchinita Pibil was fabulous and came with fluffy white rice and green beans. Green. Beans! In a Mexican Restaurant. I had one healthy item on my plate and that made me happy. Service was solid for a hopping Saturday night.
Mesa is located in a part of Dallas near the Cliff Oaks neighborhood. Décor is underwhelming but you aren’t there to admire the art. Unless you call food art, and then you’re in a good place.

Well we tried to go here tonight and waited ten minutes past open and there were no lights on and no movement inside. Best way to get me to not visit your establishment is to not honor opening times

Came in excited to try this restaurant, but left a little underwhelmed. Considering how solid the service was and the nice atmosphere, I really expected the food to wow me, but it didn’t. I thought the food was a little bland, which I suppose could be viewed in a positive light in that their food isn’t too heavy or greasy like typical mexican food… but I expected something more! There was no pizzazz. We shared the guacamole (really bland) and queso, which was better but didn’t really stand out in my opinion. I ordered the ropa vieja, which was also eh. It came with a side of rice, beans, and two tiny tortillas. You had to pay $ 2 for each additional tortilla… like are you for real? Considering all the other great tex-​mex and mexican restaurant options in the DFW area, I didn’t feel like this restaurant made the cut.

I think we may have ordered the wrong choices this time around. It’s been a couple of years since my last visit. What I remembered was fantastic mole sauce. So fantastic I’ve talked about it for years. Enough talk was enough — it was time to return.
We found parking to be challenging. There’s a sign outside pointing to «more parking» but it wasn’t very specific. As it turns out there’s a public lot a short distance away that does not require the advertised $ 1 fee.
Our table was located in the back annex area. It was cute in a rustic kind of way. Our server was friendly and fairly attentive.
The chips and salsa were fantastic! Not your typical tex-​mex offering. They were flavorful and crispy. The salsa was mild but had a complex flavor hard to find in Dallas. Only downside — extra charge for me.
On to the mole I remembered! We ordered the mole enchiladas and the mole chicken entrée. The chicken was leg piece served on the bone. It seems far from upscale especially with a menu price of almost $ 20. The enchilada dish is served with two and also somewhat expensive based on portion size at $ 16. Plus, they were served warm but far from hot.
But it was the mole sauce that made the meal disappointing. Very little spice, bland, and runny. It wasn’t what I remembered and far from the best in Dallas.
The meal was very much a 2 star experience but the waiter and chef both apologized and made the situation right.
In the end, I’ve changed my mind about Mesa. I may come back at some point but not in the near future.

Great drinks

My wife and I came in for dinner on a Thursday night. Let me tell you, this place is like nothing in Dallas. Authentic Mexican mole like my grand mother made. A majority of the menu is seafood which is just fine with us. They still have many pork, chicken, and tenderloin options available. I was disappointed that they didn’t have Lobster enchiladas. I went with mole enchiladas! Amazing! Ceviche was fresh, made to perfection, and not just shrimp cocktail with lime juice. It was a real treat. I wish I remember my servers name… She was a real treat. Very funny and put up with us. We will be back!

I can see why this place has such great reviews! I went for an early dinner at the bar before another event I had, but decided to go back again when my friend wanted food/​drinks. I had the mole enchiladas. The mole was a lighter mole than I like, and although not my favorite mole, it’s still top 5 favorite moles. They make all drinks fresh down to the limes in the margaritas.
The atmosphere is very modern and beautiful, and they have a great space in the back to reserve for large parties, I’m thinking birthdays. The peanut butter shot (which I believe is complimentary) was a great end to an overall great experience.

This place was absolutely delicious! I found this restaurant last minute while I was looking at what dinner reservations were available on New Year’s Eve via Open Table. This restaurant exceeded my expectations, due to the food’s flavor and has set a new standard for Mexican Restaurants in Dallas for me.
Walking in, the restaurant appeared smaller than I expected, but was still cozy and unique nonetheless. The restaurant seemed to be very low-​key, as it offered a limited menu and quiet bar atmosphere, and the selection of Latin rock music that played was excellent. Mesa offered a good variety of drinks (the agua de horchata was probably one of the best I’ve had) and cocktails and interestingly had a great selection of different tequilas. We started off our experience with the Queso Fundido — being my first time to try it, I was pleased with the flavor, as it was made using Chihuahua cheese. The Jicama Salad was phenomenal, with its different flavors of cucumber, papaya and jicama, this salad was to die for. For my entrée, I went with the Mole Mama Cata Enchiladas. I loved the flavor of the mole sauce paired with the avocado and chicken — I also appreciated the fact that the food’s flavor was not «heavy» as it typically is at most Mexican restaurants, this confirmed the food’s authenticity and is what will bring me back to Mesa soon. Even my mom, who is actually from Mexico, was a fan of this place and absolutely loved the food. The service was great, and we loved that our waiter brought us shots (on the house) the celebrate the new year — which was probably the best shot I’ve had (forgot the name, but it had peanut butter, rum, and milk… yum). The Mesa Martini was refreshing and strong — just the way a tequila cocktail should be, and was well worth the $ 10.
Overall, I highly recommend this gem in Oak Cliff. While the food selection is small and kind of pricy, the food’s flavor and restaurant’s aesthetic deliver above and beyond of what the Dallas Mexican food scene typically offers.

What a great dinner. Truly a gem! The place is very small and cozy, which makes for a great atmosphere. We started with chip and guacamole which were simply wonderful. A little bit of sweetness paired beautifully with the avocado and saltiness of the chips. Also, my glass of wine was phenomenal and a very generous pour to boot!
On to the main course. I had the lobster enchiladas. You have never had lobster like this. Simply wonderful and spicy, and an unexpected complement to the butteriness of the lobsters. My companions each had meat dishes which were excellent. I highly recommend the pork dishes.
This was a great spot, and I look forward to visiting the next time I am in town.

I had a great time here. My evening started off with the shrimp cocktail which was fantastic. The combination of the wonderful citrus flavors and creamy texture paired perfectly with the crunchy texture of the chips. They are crunchy and not greasy, which I loved.
Next up was the Mole Enchiladas. They were neatly stacked up on top of julienned veggies and jasmine rice. The texture of the homemade tortillas added a nice personal touch to the dish. Even the garnish of micro cilantro added something not only to the presentation but to the flavor of the Enchiladas.
For desert I had the Flan. The thing I enjoyed the most was the caramel. It was not over cooked and added a really nice sweetness.
Overall a great time.

Went here for the first time, with a group, last night. I had the salmon and it was great! The lobster enchiladas and cocktails got rave reviews also.
Very friendly service as well. I definitely reccomend it.

This is a swanky restaurant in a not so swanky neighborhood. We parked in the lot around the corner (be careful of the huge crater of a pothole!) and just rushed inside.
The food was good, but the service is what makes me not want to come back. First the host was friendly, greeted us and asked if we’d like to sit in the front room or in the back. I honestly just chose the back on a whim, thinking Sure show us the back! There were no other diners back there (it was early), but there were about 4 employees standing around. After he seated us I overheard an exchange between the host and one of the other employees. I didn’t catch all of it, but one guy seemed perturbed that he had seated us back there, to which the host replied, «They ASKED to sit back here.» We had no idea if we were not supposed to sit there or what and it was an uncomfortable position to be in, but nothing else was said to us.
So the other employees dispersed and we were left with our waitress, who was downright cold to us the whole evening. Who knows if she was pissed off about the host seating us there, but we just tried to make the best of our dinner. What was also strange is that the entire time, unless she was getting our food or drinks, she was just standing on the other side of the room. Just standing there. No one else in the room except for us and or waitress lurking in the corner. Awkward!
If you still want to check it out, here’s a little about the food we had:
Ceviche– this was good and they give you plenty. the two of us couldn’t finish it.
Lobster Enchiladas– very filling. not stupendous, but pretty good.
Guiso Del Chef– delicious. scallops, shrimp, octopus, and mussels with some rice. the broth it’s in is not so much of a broth, but more like a bowl of melted butter. what’s not to like, right?
The Horchata drink was also good, sort of milky and cinnamon-​y.
Well, we tried it, but it’s not a place we’d be interesting in going back to.

I have been interested in going to Mesa for quite some time now and looked forward to the experience.
We arrived at 6:00pm on a Saturday Evening (Halloween.) We parked on the street and walked a half block. Even though I was with my 6 ft husband, I was just a little freaked out about the safety of the neighborhood. Just be alert, y’all.
The place was empty. We were walked to the back where we were given two uncomfortable options to sit — basically this corner or that corner. The table was so small we didn’t have room to set our menus, wine list, flatware and candle on the table. The waitress came over and explained the menu. Since I am not a fan of mushrooms, I asked if the queso fundido could be prepared without mushrooms. First she said No, the she said she would check. We Ordered our Beers. I ordered a Pacifico and my husband a Modela Especial. And wouldn’t you know it, they were out of the Pacifico. Whatever. Bring a Corona. So after a few more minutes (heck we were the only people here) They brought the beers out. My husband was brought a Modela Negro. (sigh) Honestly, this shouldn’t be that hard. At this point, we were just disappointed. He drank the beer without complaint.
On to the food. Queso Fundido came out piping hot — made to order without mushrooms. this ooohey gooey goodness was served with home made chips. It was very difficult to eat — even though it was delicious, I recommend serving with soft tortillas instead of chips The queso just slides off the chips.
I ordered the tenderloin enchiladas. Beautifully presented. However the food was stacked — the enchiladas on top of the rice, vegetables were under that. I have been told that this helps with heat loss on the rice and julienne vegetables. um. not the case here. It was barely warm. The flavor of the sauce was wonderful, however the beef looked grey and unappetizing. Like it had been boiled — not grilled — and sat around for a few hours. The vegetables and rice had a sweet and spicy flavor to them, again, not served warm.
Hubby ordered the Lobster enchiladas. It must of been pretty good, nothing was left on the plate! Again, beautifully presented. He asked for a Modela Especial, and the waitress argued with him — «you mean a Negro?» No he means an ESPECIAL.
Dessert time. We ordered the blueberry bread pudding. Again not even warm enough the get the berry ice cream to melt. Bring the check — we are done.
Honestly, the food was good, and could have been delicious if the service and the temperature of ALL of the food been a little warmer —

I can’t say enough good things about this place. I’ve been here many times and have always had an outstanding experience. The owners and the waitstaff are just wonderful. The food is top-​notch and impeccably presented. The décor and atmosphere are also very well-​done. They offer authentic Mexican cuisine as opposed to uniform, commercial Tex-​Mex. And yes, Beyoncé And Jay Z have eaten here– rightfully so as this is one of the best dining options in Dallas. Wonderful place for date night or a gathering with close friends. Have dinner here and then head to the lounge at Texas Theatre for drinks. You won’t be disappointed.

Very rarely do I give 5 star reviews. So many people give 5 stars to everything on Unilocal.Sorry, Whataburger shouldn’t be 5 stars. But I digress.
The boyfriend and I had our «date night» here. We do a date night every so often, which I recommend in any relationship. But I digress again.
This was our first time to Mesa and it will not be our last. We were sat right away on a Tuesday evening. We just beat a little dinner rush. Raul was our server, although it seemed all the servers helped each other out in the restaurant which is a sign of a happy staff who are passionate about the business as a whole.
We started with cocktails: Mesa Martini and a Mesa Horchata. Martini good, Horchata AMAZE-​ing!!!
Starter: Guacamole and house-​made tortilla chips. They noticed us devouring the chips and guac and without even hesitation or asking, brought us some more fresh chips. Brownie points. We almost licked the guacamole bowl. Just sayin’.
Entrees: Cochinita Pibill and Ropa Vieja. If you don’t know what those are, shame on you because they both were extremely delicious, well cooked with lots of flavor. Served with sides of rice and beans and house-​made tortillas. I was full after eating half but it was so good I stuffed my belly to finish the plate because it was THAT good. You don’t waste a well-​prepared meal. Again, just sayin’.
For dessert, we had two more Mesa Horchatas as you should truly only drink your dessert. They brought us two complementary shots of something delicious at the end which solidified the awesome experience.
We noticed across from us the owner brought out his guitar and sang Las Mañanitas to a customer who was having a birthday. Totally sweet and bad ass.
They had us at «Mesa Horchata» but then continued with great food, ambiance and service. Being in the service industry myself I was thoroughly impressed and respect a great establishment when I see one. Well done! We shall be back!

A must have dallas for mexican food and oak cliff /​bishop arts /​Jefferson blvd.

Fantastic all around. Authentic Mexican cuisine in a little and beautifully designed restaurant (the inside especially), that’s focused on fresh ingredients — particularly seafood.
The menu is small and costly, but really lovely and well-​composed. There are only 3 appetizers (ceviche, queso fundido, and fresh guacamole), and then a few options each for salad, entrees, seafood, enchiladas, and dessert. There’s a «V» next to every vegetarian dish and a «G» for all the gluten-​free (although I noticed a couple dishes with a «G» that described meat cooked with beer, so I’d double check on your choices just to be safe). The corn tortillas are house made, and their speciality is their mole.
We started with the queso fundido ($ 12) and it was delicious. Seriously cheesy and gooey and melty and amazing. The chips are thick and crunchy, which is totally necessary for such a heavy queso filled with mushrooms and peppers. Very, very filling, which is why we opted to share an entrée. We decided on the «cochinita pibill,» slow-​cooked pork. OH man, the meat was incredibly tender, served on the bone in a bowl of the most fragrant, beautiful broth. There was totally cinnamon in it, which I absolutely love — and it’s not overpowering. It’s just right. The pork pulled right off the bone and is served with corn tortillas, jasmine rice (that we’re pretty sure was cooked in lard because it was soooooo good and had that fried rice texture), black bean soup, and escabeche (these are pickled habaneros so watch out). All of these goodies on a fresh tortilla made the perfect tacos.
The entrée, although only meant for one, was still pretty small for $ 18. You’re only served 2 tortillas with it, and the sides of rice and beans are both presented in tiny bowls. All delicious though.
The cocktail menu is also something to be celebrated. Their most beloved drink is the «Mesa Horchata» — horchata made in house with vanilla rum and a cinnamon stick. Our waiter recommended I order it for dessert, but I wanted it ASAP. I honestly don’t think it was too sweet, it was very well balanced. Lots of beautiful margaritas on the menu as well. Adam had both the «Smoky» and the «Spicy,» and enjoyed them both. Well made cocktails!
Our waiter was very sweet and knew the menu well, ready with suggestions and answers to questions. The restaurant was pretty empty at 7 PM on a Friday night, no idea why because it has a really stellar atmosphere and awesome food. Beautiful décor inside!

Came with my boyfriends co worker and his gf for a lovely night out in the Bishop arts of Dallas. This area looks great to me! I love little mexican locations across dallas. This was a great place! Had a reservation on a saturday night. Not too crowded and a great atmosphere. Very friendly staff whom checked on us frequently. BF and I are on a low carb diet so they had MANY options for us to choose from. Apparently everything is fantastic and I believe it. I had a spicy margarita and I would recommend it for sure. Chef brought us free horchata shots after dinner as a thank you. He also comes out to play for everyone with his guitar. A very friendly ambiance. I will definitely be coming back here!

This small, authentic Mexican restaurant is different than the traditional Tex Mex one will find in Dallas. And it is not located in the traditional area of Oak Cliff, either. But do not let this sway your opinion. The waitress spoke Spanish so beautifully, that although I could only understand half of what she was saying, it did not take away from the experience.
We started with the Picadas de Veracruz: Handmade masa tartlets filled with salsa, cheese, and onion. Three to an order with tomatillo, tomato and mole salsa. My favorite was the tomatillo (red), followed by the mole (brown). I was pleased with the appetizer and you could taste the authenticity of the food. For my meal, I got the Arroz ala Tumbada: Shrimp, scallops, mussels, crab, and octopus in a tomato and rice stew. Although the wait staff claims it is not spicy, the stew did have a slight kick to it. Again, it was not exactly what I was expecting, but it was filled with flavor and left me satisfied.
Finally, we reached dessert. We went with the platter of three and split the Fried plantains with cream, fresh cheese, and top with agave honey; Pastel de tres leches cake; and Choco flan cake. All three were enjoyable, but next time I would order the Tres Leches solo. Although I am not dying to go back to this place, I think it is only because my palette is too custom to Tex Mex and cheese. Mesa Veracruz offers a Mexican experience rarely seen in Dallas and, if only just once, worth a visit.

3.5 if I could. Nestled in the up and coming Oak Cliff. The restaurant and it’s décor stands out in the busy street with little Mexican shops all around. Parking is a bit shady. We parked on the side within these gates, they told us it was their parking lot. Still, I would double check every time. We went on a Saturday evening at 6. It was pretty… dead inside. We had even made reservations– which was pointless. I think there may have been less than 10 customers in the entire place. We were the only 4 people in the back patio. Music was loud, can you imagine combining that with a restaurant full of people? I don’t know why some places have to blast the music. Ever heard of background music or volume? When people go out to eat, they want to be able to talk to their friends and not have to speak super loudly or yell.
The prices are on the more expensive side for Mexican food. For a plate of mole enchilada– $ 16. Lobster enchilada– $ 19. Presentation is nice of course. The amount of food for the cost is disappointing. For a small Asian girl, I could finish the plate of enchilada and still be hungry. Each plate had 2 enchiladas on a bed of veggies like carrots (bleh!) Next time hold the side veggies!
Unlike every Mexican restaurants, none of our enchilada plates came with rice and beans, the staple of every Mexican dishes! No wonder we weren’t full.
Mole enchilada– closest ones to the best we’ve had in Mexico. It’s been very difficult to find good mole in TX even though we’ve gone to many Mexican hole-​in-​the-​wall restaurants in search of mole. Some were too sweet, too chocolatey, too bitter… This one was not the best we’ve had, but the closest one in our search. Too bad it’s $ 16 for 2 enchiladas and nothing else.
The lobster dish was so-​so. The veggies underneath was hard to pick out and it ruined the taste. The lobster wasn’t very powering. So basically, I felt like I ate more veggies in this dish. Would not order this dish again. My hubby thought the lobster was a little rubbery. I wasn’t even sure if every bite had lobster in it.
Service was still fine… But I got annoyed with our waiter. He was nice and «acted» like he was trying to be helpful… but I got the feeling he was just trying to increase our bill to get a bigger tip. This is one of my biggest pet peeves in a restaurant. When I asked him what were the most popular dishes (or favorites), he pointed to something on the menu, said «Scratch that, EVERYTHING is good here!» I said, «NO NO NO NO! I do not like that answer. Not everything can be a favorite. I want to know the most favorite dishes. The ones people order a lot.» Keeping in mind, I was already thinking of the mole or lobster because that seems to be the most common ones on Unilocal reviews and pictures. He went on to point to the top 4 expensive dishes, never mentioning the mole enchiladas. After I inquired about that, he then added on, «oh yea, that is popular too. Our mole is very good here!»
I appreciate an honest waiter/​waitress who does not care about the price tag and actually be helpful and can say, well this dish is okay, I like this one or this one is ordered a lot. Not… EVERYTHING is good!!! So annoying!
So… we may stop here again to have just their mole, or order to go. But already the waiter and the price tag keeps me from coming back.

I’ve had Mesa on my list of restaurants to try for some time now. The main reason why it’s taken me so long is due to its location that I wasn’t aware of. However, once I actually dined at Mesa, I knew it was just right around the corner from Bishop Arts and all was well.
The first thing that I loved about Mesa is the option to make a reservation. It’s easy and convenient. Another thing that I love about Mesa is the free parking. That’s not something you can get much of in Dallas.
My bf and I were able to score a cozy little table in the corner, making the mood so nice and romantic. The lights were dim and the vibe was modish. We felt extremely comfortable!
We had one of the best waiters ever. He was knowledgeable about the menu, helpful with selections, and attentive to us the whole time.
We started off with a glass of Pinot Grigio and a Spicy Margarita. Apparently, the Spicy Margarita was a real hit because my bf kept ordering more of them. Along with our drinks, we ordered Guacamole with chips. The Guacamole was by far the best guacamole I’ve ever had in my entire life. I’m not sure how they could get it so perfect, but it was. It was so wonderful that we requested a second order of Guacamole to keep the happiness flowing.
For my entrée, I ordered the Lobster Enchiladas without the sour cream drizzled on top. The creamy cheese enchilada sauce was divine. The flavor of the enchiladas was unbelievable. I also had some of the Huachinango a la Veracruzana, which is red snapper and rice. The snapper couldn’t have been cooked better. Along with the delicious, buttery fish, the light gravy that the fish and rice were drenched in reminded me of my grandmother’s cooking back in the South. It was amazing.
The food and dining experience was so awesome that we went back again the NEXT NIGHT! This time, I got a Mesarita, and it would have been a perfect 10 had I remembered to tell the waiter I didn’t want salt on the rim. Other than that, the experience was once again extremely memorable. We got another two orders of Guacamole, which I’ve seemed to become addicted to. Then, I decided to change it up a bit and order the Camarones Enchipotlados, which is basically jumbo shrimp sitting on a bed of rice and a spicy gravy sauce. The shrimp dish was sensational. I could not have asked for a better meal. I only wish their portion sizes were a bit larger.
I also got to taste a little of the Mole Mama Cata, and the chicken was cooked superbly, along with the semi-​sweet mole.
All in all, we had two great experiences back to back at Mesa and it’s now one of my favorite restaurants. I will most definitely be visiting this place again very soon, and quite often!

Mesa is a wonderful restaurant! It’s a small offshoot from the Bishop’s Art District nestled right in Oakcliff on Jefferson. I like the style, vibes and the food was excellent. The service was a bit slow, but I won’t complain. I ordered the mole mama data enchiladas and it blew me away. They serve fine Latin cuisine not just the run of the mill tex mex that all texans are so used to. They offer a nice variety of Latin music that serves as great ambient music, but once the radio ads come on it kinda shocks the shit outta you. Mesa please upgrade to the premium spotify or pandora or whatever you use. Aside from a few grips I absolutely love this place! I’ll be back for sure!

«Very soon Jefferson street is going to be like South Congress in Austin.» My friend foretold. «It’s already happening.» He pointed to a new glitzy modern steel and glass building being constructed on the street.
The many old quinceanera shops and raggedy dollar stores framed by faded random music stores, piñata shops, or pet stores, seemed to be disappearing before my eyes. He was right, this dusty strip with its tree studded boulevard ready to turn into Palms sits waiting like a forgotten Mexican city satellite with it’s wide sidewalks ripe for street dining.
Mesa is the surprising new lone front man on Jefferson for now, looking strikingly updated and patronized in contrast to it’s vacant shabby surroundings.
We had missed the monthly flamenco show but the energy lingered and although it was past closing hours, we were attentively invited to dine, without any rush. They even kept the music on when we enjoyed our after dinner cigarette outside, which when we got into the car, was instantly turned off.
The space felt comfortable but special.
The guacamole was good, fresh and extra luscious. The admission of adding olive oil as a secret ingredient, underlined this venue’s penchant for unneccessary excess, if even not quit authentic. My mole enchiladas, an offensive $ 18, were fat with a clean fabulous sauce, My friend stealthily absconded with one by wisely forcing his lobster enchilada on me, so we would have to trade. The pile of zucchini, and carrots underneath our enchiladas acted more like an overgrown annoying garnish than sustenance, incorporated into a small layer of rice.
I’m one of those people that doesn’t believe an enchilada plate should ever be more than $ 15, unless it’s particularly gourmet, which these were not.
Mesa’s elbow pokes you in the side wanting you to love it, and wanting you to pay.
People will.
«Do you think the local residents will get priced out of the neighborhood?» my friend objected to the waiter who lives in the area.
Calmly, «I see that coming.» and he added with some gentle confidence,
«but we will sell for a price.»

I love, love, LOVED this place!
I would be stupid not to give it 5 stars.
I went on a Saturday night for my birthday — there about 10 of us there. They accommodated us easily and without issue. We were seated immediately upon arrival. (Unfortunately, it was especially slow for a Saturday night.)
The table ordered the guacamole — so flavorful — and the queso fundido — delicious! — to start. We were very pleased with both appetizers.
I ordered the Lobster Enchiladas because if it’s good enough for Jay-​Z, it’s good enough for me. They were phenomenal! Everyone wanted to try them and we all loved it. A few others ordered the chicken mole and were very pleased. My fiancé got the carne asada and was put off by its’ size when it arrived (a little small), but got over that once he tasted it. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly.
As it was my birthday, the staff brought me a piece of Tres Leches with a lit candle and «Happy Birthday Emily!» written on the plate. So thoughtful! But wait! That’s not all! Then the executive chef (!!!) Raul Reyes came out with a guitar and serenaded our table for almost an hour with Spanish ballads and other songs. We danced, we cheered, we had a great time! Then he ordered a round of tequila shots for the table.
As far as drinks go, I ordered the Mesa Horchata which was heavily spiced, but tasted great, and the mesarita which is strong and perfect.
I understand my experience was different than most, but they ensured I will be back time and time again.
