No.1 Plus Chicken

ordered the sweet and spicy wings. not the best Korean wings I’ve had. just OK. sauce was a little too tangy for my liking. maybe if they double fried their chicken and double basted the sauce it would produce that perfect crust as compared to their, oh so good, older brother Bön chon.

Great chicken. I was hungry for sum chicken but wanted something different. Saw this place had great reviews. Glad I found it. they have regular or spicy chicken. They also have a relish you would die for. Not sure what is all in… but yummy.

Fried chicken is one of my favorite things on earth and I can definitely say that out of all the different types of chicken, Korean fried chicken is my absolute favorite. I ordered a large ‘yangnyum’ chicken (which in Korean means ‘seasoned’ chicken which is usually a bit spicy), and it was definitely A LOT– I believe it was the whole chicken. I loved how big the serving was. Also compared to how much chicken you were getting, the price was pretty low as well. I ordered take-​out and I was a bit worried that it might get soggy during my 20 minute drive back home but I was surprised to find it still very crunchy and fresh!
Overall, the location of the place is a bit … sketchy but the service and food is so great that it doesn’t even bother me.

I’m a little obsessed with fried chicken lately. Another KFC place — Rice Chicken has been on my radar, so I’m always pestering everyone to go try it with me. The SO is watching her super-​modelish-​weight, so she always gives me that rolling-​her-​eyes look when I suggest it, and my son’s not up for going across the city for some asian fried chicken.
Finally the SO gave in last night. We went to Rice Chicken but it was packed so backup plan was No.1 Plus. Got the ice-​maker seat (free fries woo-​hoo), and settled down for some tasty fried treats. I like the atmosphere… it’s tiny but has that bar feel and the divided tables make it seem like you have your own secret thing going on. And service could not have been more friendly. Checked on us even though we weren’t using the button in the booth except for ordering.
We ordered a small portion of the original fried (served dry with some cayenne type powder sprinkled on top), and a small order of the sweet and spicy (requested at spicy which is the middle choice). My favorite was the original fried — crispy skin, very flavorful chicken… good stuff. Wasn’t very spicy though. Is it weird if I just want to eat the crust only? That’s how I was as a kid-I’d eat the fried crust and leave most of the chicken sitting there! What?! The crust is the best part! Don’t judge me! The sweet and spicy was also flavorful, with the meat cut into smaller pieces but the sauce was a little too sticky and sweet for my own tastes. Don’t get me wrong — I still enjoyed it, but I will try one of the other flavors next time. As everyone says, the daikon radish tastes great with the chicken. Oh and the rice cake with the sweet and spicy is a definite plus — nice addition. Pair this chicken with a cold beer (they had a range of bottled beers from Hite to Bud Lite, Heineken, Blue Moon, maybe some other domestics as well as Coors Lite on tap) and this is a fun meal.
Now, just eating fried chicken does make me feel like a fat-​ass, so technically you could get some chicken as well as some of the other traditional Korean items on the back side of the menu and maybe counteract that fried food guilt syndrome.
Which brings me to this morning. I hear a scream from the bathroom. «What is it?!» SO: «I gained .7 of a pound! It was the chicken!!!» Me: «oh my god… What the…, I mean, it’s OK baby! You need a little fat for the winter you know as insulation!».
Yes I realize now-​wrong thing to say. I guess it will be a while before I see you RIce Chicken!

First off, right now I am in loveee with Korean food. I’ll either have Korean bbq or some sort of dish once every week or other week as of the past couple months. Now combine that obsession with fried chicken and I am in heaven.
This place is located in a small little shopping center filled with other Korean businesses. Parking can be a pain but totally worth the food.
My friend and I decided to order a large order of the sweet and spicy and the garlic. Note, the large order is seriously a whole chicken.
The sweet and spicy were both our favorites, not too spicy but just the right amount. Tons of flavor, and the pickled radish is the perfect compliment to this flavorful chicken. The garlic is extra heavy on the garlic, but I love garlic and pretty much loved both of the flavors we got.
Again, I know I’ll be back here for sure. Good service and great food!

If you think Fried Chicken is American, think again. Nothing yells fried chicken more than Korean fried chicken!
The area was sketchy and shady as hell so the first time I came, I was scared and leave without trying, however, after looking at all the pictures and praises, I decided to go the second time.
Their interiors look totally different from the outside, it have this homely feel to it. I ordered two type of flavors, garlic chicken and sweet and spicy chicken. I love the garlic chicken, I wouldn’t order anything else besides it.
¹⁰⁄₁₀ would be back for late night crave of chicken.

I got the garlic chicken and it was pretty good… Okay, it was delicious. (: I might go back to try the hot wings with friends. The only thing is it’s pretty expensive. I got the garlic chicken and it was like $ 17 to what equated to 4 – 5 pieces of dark meat. I’m not sure if the meat is antibiotic free range chicken or if the garlic sauce takes hours to cook, but now that I think about it I may look for alternative KFC restaurants that don’t charge high prices.

Pricey !! But probably the best chick wings that I had in the last one year. Tasty /​Fresh /​Crisp/​and the sauces are awesome.

Food: the BEST ddukbbokki I have ever had. The red sauce is sweet and spicy but not overwhelming and filled with LOTS of super gooey mozzarella cheese that just took it to a whole different level. I also really liked the sauteed garlic chicken which had no shortage of garlic and honey and full of flavor. The sweet and spicy flavor was good but forgettable, both chicken plates were super crispy and not too heavy also.
Atmosphere-​clean, nice for a small double date since there’s enough privacy booths and seems pretty cozy.
Service-​very friendly and prompt, they recommend ordering ahead next time since it takes awhile to make the chicken.
Price-​ok, not too bad since a lot of korean chicken joints charge heftier prices.

Yall have got to go to this little place when you can. Yes it’s a little place but man the fried chicken is super delicious! I’ve gotten the garlic chicken, green onion chicken, and hot wings. The best is the garlic chicken. It comes perfectly fried and tossed into a garlic concoction that will blow your mind!!! It’s sweet, savory, garlicy heaven. The green onion chicken, we got boneless and it was sooo moist! White meat is hard to keep juicy, but they got it down right. Green onion chicken is a staple in Korean cuisine. Then the hot wings were scrumptious. Fried nicely and super juicy with flavorful seasonings. I heard they have great baked chicken, so I can’t wait to go back and try it out!

One of the best yangnyum chicken I’ve had. I’m from LA and sure I’ve had some yangnyum chicken that tastes delicious but the main reason why I enjoyed this place so much is how juicy the chicken was and how easy it was to pull it off the bone. I also love the fact that they put some rice cake pieces in the dish. Definitely will head back whenever I’m Dallas

They have good chicken and beer here. Price wasn’t bad for the amount you get. The spicy chicken is really good. We also go chicken with green oinons on top. Pitcher of beer was $ 10. Very small place. Im not a pickle fan of anything but the pickled radish was goos and goes well with the spicy chicken. Best Korean chicken place my boyfriend and i been to. Everything came out tasting great. I think total bill was around $ 38.

I was a bit skeptical about this place since it’s in a sketchy area in Harry Hines and upon walking in, the restaurant didn’t seem like much but I’m very glad I got the chance to try this place out.
My husband and I tried the small Sweet&Sour Glazed fried chicken and the small Green Onion speciality chicken. Both were amazing. The green onion chicken were cut into little nugget size chicken and topped with green onion and a spicy mayo sauce. The sweet&sour chicken had little bones but the sauce was delicious and they gave us a spicy dipping sauce on the side. The chicken were flavored well and not dry at all. The two small orders were way too much for the two of us to share so they are pretty generous with the serving portions.
Our waitress was really nice and gave us free fries since it was our first time there. Tasted identical to Mcdonald’s fries. I would definitely come back.

No.1 Plus Chicken is a restaurant along Royal’s Korean district. They specialize in KFC — Korean Fried Chicken. It’s a small shop in a strip mall but those looking for authentic Korean Fried Chicken will find it here.
My Overall Rating — 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return)
Atmosphere — No.1 Plus Chicken is located in a mostly Korean shopping strip. There are LED lights around the window along with a brightly lit Open sign. You’ll walk by the kitchen in the front and you can smell the fryers from outside. It’s small, dark, and feels like a seedy bar. My gut reaction was to turn around and leave, but the stomach told me to stay. We sat against the wall in small table, and a button. The button is used to call for service, and there’s also a ledge which holds napkins, disposable cups, and other handy items. In the end I’m glad I stayed, but it’s still seedy. ½ Star.
Service — But the staff were the nicest people. So while I still felt like I was at a seedy bar, our server & the manager were as kind as school teachers you trust most. They were great at explaining the menu, making recommendations for best sellers, and constantly checking in even when we didn’t push the button. I felt so at ease with the staff I felt like I was eating at a friend’s house. Also — they place a bottle of ice water at your table and will swap it out as you use it. Keeps the water constantly cold and is a nice touch. 1 Star.
Food — Ever since Bön Chon closed down I have been looking for a KFC substitute. The more I explore, the more I realized that Bön Chon was not authentic. No.1 Plus Chicken is. You can order wings or chicken, sauced or naked, baked or fried. Baked chicken takes a while so it’s recommended that you call in your order. We ordered both wings & regular chicken. Sweet & spicy (mild) — the wings are tossed in sauce so they come out «wet». Most of the flavor is in the sauce but biting the chicken together will give you an even bite. Wings are served with slaw, but I recommend you order rice or more coleslaw on the side to cut through the fried chicken. The chicken was extremely flavorful — these aren’t Wingstop wings or Kentucky wings. You get a burst of Korean flavors along with the hot & tender chicken in your bite. It’s also nice to eat with a bowl of rice. This is what true Korean Fried Chicken is like. I’ll need to circle back to try the nude, garlic, and baked offerings but no doubt it’s a good start. 1 ½ Star.
Will I Return? — Yes. They do carryout (I still think it’s seedy) so I’ll be back to place a to-​go order or two. You get plenty of chicken per order so bring a group of friends or be prepared to take some home. Too much left on the menu to try so +1 to coming back. 1 Star.

1 Star — Atmosphere — Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I’ll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm.
1 Star — Service — You can have a great meal with bad service. But that’s also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It’s important to the dining experience that service is great and on point.
2 Stars — Food — I’ll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it’s really all about the food.
1 Star — Will I come back? — If I know for a fact I’ll return, I’ll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return.

Pretty chill place. I like it because they open till two so you can come and chill with some friends late at night where everything else seems to be closed. Service is by a button near the table and they’re quick to come. We ordered the small sweet sautéed and garlic chick and the small green onion chicken. The smalls were definitely shareable in our group of four but if you have a hungrier group go for the larges.

Pretty good. They used white meat on it and it seemed like chicken nuggets with a spicy mayo to dress the chicken and green onions. I’d say this one is the signature dish of the restaurant that every says is a must order here.

Best Korean chicken place ever. I come here with my boyfriend whenever I can. Our favorite is the green onion chicken and plain fried chicken (original or spicy). I’m not a fan of the sweet and spicy marinated chicken in general so we rarely order that. The flavor of the chicken is great and the dipping sauces are on point. What really tops everything off is their radish. It’s crisp and cold which is a plus. It sucks when you bite into a radish that’s warm and soggy… Yuck. This place is a bit steep but that’s what makes it uniquely different from those fast food chicken joints. Please don’t even compare. This is a hole in a wall restaurant and the location is known to be sketchy hence the area «Harry Hines» but don’t let that prevent you from stopping by. It’s in a small Korean plaza and not even close to that dangerous location.
Hours run late and they do sell alcohol so this is a great chill night place

This was my first experience with Korean fried chicken and I totally understand the hype. Each chicken menu item was $ 10-​$ 15, but the portions are sizable. My boyfriend and I couldn’t finish the two servings we ordered.
The place is open 3 pm-​2 am, which is great if you’re looking for a late-​night meal. We stopped by at 11:30 and the server was super friendly and helpful. Great service. And they threw in a side of fries since we were seated next to the ice machine!
We had the sweet and spicy chicken and spicy garlic chicken. Each dish came with five large pieces, deep fried to a satisfying crispiness. The meat itself was juicy and tender and marinated perfectly in the way that only Koreans can. I preferred the spicy garlic, and don’t have a single complaint about my experience. This place brings fried chicken to a whole different level.

Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but this place has damn good fried chicken. They have an extensive menu for fried chicken, with your choice of it being baked or fried. You can also choose between a variety of toppings and sauces.
We got the sweet and spicy garlic chicken (small), spicy rice cake, and fried wings (10 piece). Everything was really fresh, juicy, and flavorful. Keep in mind that this place is Korean fried chicken, so the spices are different than your KFC and Popeyes, but I prefer this place to those and other American fried chicken places (this place blows Max’s wine and dine fried chicken out of the water, seriously). The price point is ok for a sit down casual joint, our meal was around $ 40 with tax and fed three people, with leftovers.
I would definitely come back, even though it’s out of the way. They are also open late!

This place makes me never want to go to KFC, Popeyes or Churches ever again!
I’ve only tried the fried chicken here but I will definitely be back to try the other Korean dishes on the menu. The fried chicken is huge, crispy, full of flavor, tender… just everything you imagine fried chicken is supposed to be like. They don’t make it until you order it. It comes with 3 different sauces — not your typical ranch or buffalo sauce & a side of cubed radish in this sweet and tangy sauce. The radish is an acquired taste and it’s hard to just eat one.
The restaurant itself is pretty small inside and the entrance way is tight. But everything is clean and organized with dim lighting. They serve wine, sake, beer and sodas. The water is self-​serve.
I know it’s strange I’m giving this place five stars based only on the chicken. but if you love fried chicken, do your tastebuds a favor and try this place.

This place is in the same plaza as komart, and it looks pretty nondescript from the outside. When you walk in, it has a dark hole-​in-​the-​wall feel to it. It seems like a bunch of people order takeout, and there are only 5 – 6 tables inside.
My friend and I ordered a 5 pc sweet & spicy fried chicken (mild spicy) to share. We were expecting something appetizer sized, but by 5 pieces, they meant 5 giant pieces. It easily could’ve been a full meal for the two of us. The chicken was crispy, but I thought the sauce was too salty and a little overwhelming. I felt like I needed some steamed rice to cancel out the saltiness. I did, however, really enjoy the little fried rice cakes that came mixed in the chicken!
